I think that gamers / wow-community is on strong weed since few years or in strong deep state of needness. We came from enjoying the game to the state where numbers are telling us what to play. The gaming is became of World of simcraft.
Sims are telling us that talents to play, what enchants to use etc. Displayed numbers mostly takes out player’s brain and replace it with the “result”. Sims are telling us what gear to wear, players are going into the raid/m+ with pressured expectations what loot must drop… if it drop, now the roll need to be the highest. Pressure, pressure, pressure…
Unfortunately content creators and hardcore players takes strong part in it.
Back in time we had guides, the people who learn how to fish instead of giving a fish. Now we have numbers presenters on Youtube channels.
We came from times when “enjoyable” rating also had measurable value… “It’s enjoyable to play with this talent, its enjoyable to play with this trinket, its enjoyable to have x amount of haste”.
As an ending we can put a blame on players… meta and best numbers are the thing… but on the others side, the questions asked by them can be answered: Play what you like… if you enjoy it, this is the way for you to play.
There isn’t too much to say about it though, this is how they like to play the game and you don’t need to follow them.
“As an ending we can put a blame on players”: This part makes sense only if they are doing something wrong, but they don’t. Maybe it’s a good time to reconsider if this game is still for you or not and simply don’t expect everything to change just for you.
I mean, there were always BiS talents and gear/stats for content, I play healer now and make my own stats depending on what content I play but the stat prio generally doesn’t change even if I want it to xD It just is what it is. Play whatever you want, if your good enough you can sacrifice some better talents for worse ones and still do more than fine, as long as you take the “best” ones. That’s just WoW though, it’s always been like this, we just got better and better measurements, players and tech to track it.
Min maxing is a part of end game. but unfortunately many players start doing this from the moment they hit max level. But if i were you i wouldnt worry too much unless im doing content such as mythic raids and m17+ keys and higher. Again its upto you how you want to play your toon. No one has the time to really inspect you, unless you are like topping the charts from the bottom on each boss, then you might want to inspect your self, before some one does.
