Why would Blizzard spend an inordinate amount of money to make a competitor to its own established cash cow?

why whould that be a problem really for blizzard?
i dont understand.

They couldn’t even release Ghost lol.

Starcraft is pretty much a dead IP.

Starcraft are died long ago

ill bet blizzard can sprouce it up with some fine cinematics commercials.

Those ideas got canned years ago

For an MMO to work you need a critical amount of players engaging with it.

A dumb example is: Imagine that you quew for a dungeon and the dungeon never pops. Because there are no players to play it.

So if you do 2 MMOs that compete with eachother, half of WoW players would go to this new WoC MMO.

Two scenarios are possible, depending on how many people do this:

  • One of them dies because of lack of players.
  • Both die because both dont have enough players.

And that is why Blizzard cares. And so should you.

only way it could happen it would be when the WoW dev team would say “ok we finished WoW, we don’t have any story to tell and the game won’t be develop any further and will go into maintaince mode” and then and only then there could be possibility.

Question is - would they try do again the MMORPG game? I mean you must remember that people who would make new mmorpg are the same people that are making current game. If, as you said, this would be “toddlers like” then bad news for you. :upside_down_face:

Because you’re going to divide your customer base for your MMO across two games, as opposed to one game - which increases costs without a corresponding increase in profits.

There isn’t a huge untapped reservoir of customers waiting for a StarCraft MMO. Starcraft fans probably just want another RTS, and some WoW fans might jump, but you’re not going to have some huge surge in customers - you’ll just have two games with smaller communities as opposed to one game with a larger community - all while paying the expenses of development, maintenance and infrastructure.

It makes zero financial sense.

Got to admit, I do find the idea of a hydralisk stood infront of a mog station endlessly swapping outfits amusing

What even is Starcraft?

A cozy farming simulator where you farm hydrogen, compress it to helium, keep adding more hydrogen and compressing it until it starts to form a ball and the hydrogen sticks to it by itself, then quickly place it somewhere in a free space and repeat at another place.

Then suddenly beings appear, create other beings, humans pop up in big spaceships, war, something something, some human-insecty-girl becomes a god, peace (?), some Draenei get lost in space and end up at your place where you crafted your first star and have a meet and greet with them other folks that popped up there back then.

There has been some hints that blizzard may be developing another StarCraft game, and it is not necessarily an RTS version…

Please be sarcasm…

I think the chances are higher that they make a Starcraft Helldivers 2 rip-off.

Maybe if wow no longer profitable.

Probably more mobile crap.

That would be a shame, but it suggest to me that they may be going through the FPS format instead.
