World of Warcraft Addon Enables Arabic Chat, Filling a Gap in the Game

Greeting WoW Arabic players,

Are you an Arabic speaker who has been frustrated with the inability to type in your native language in WoW’s chat? Well, you’re not alone. Despite years of requests from the community, Blizzard has not added Arabic support to the game’s chat.

But thanks to the efforts of dedicated developers named Platine and Dragonarab, Arabic speakers can now chat in their own language with the new addon they created.

The addon fills a much-needed gap in the game and makes WoW more accessible to Arabic speakers. Despite the recent purchase of Activision-Blizzard by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, which some hoped would lead to the addition of Arabic support, the addon proves that players can take matters into their own hands.

If you’re an Arabic speaker who has been waiting for this feature, or if you’re just interested in supporting diversity in WoW, give this addon a try. You can see the work here Here

Don’t be shy, lads and lasses! :muscle: Let’s raise a pint to the fine folks who made this addon possible and show Blizzard that supporting diversity and inclusivity in their game is important to us.

Happy gaming!

Why not persian? it’s far more complete than arabic and has 4 extra letters aswell!

Looking for a Welsh version, it is after all one of the oldest surviving European Languages!

It can be done if you can contact the developer in Twitter

its can be done

Well done. Happy on your behalf.

To those who don’t understand why Arabic is so tricky, let me try to explain:
Arabic, unlike all European languages, is written right-to-left. Ours are written left-to-right.

The problem here is that it flows together - each letter changes the shape of the preceding and following letters, and so you can’t just “type it backwards” either, like you can with Hebrew. The client must explicitly support it in code. Many UI elements are flipped around.

Can’t they just turn the monitor upside down then?

Because there’s no localized version of the game for that region.
This is the EU version. There’s no official arabic language in the EU.

My monitor only rotates 90 degrees I’m afraid. We need to riot and demand better monitor stands!

Nothing wrong with the Cornish!

Ehm… what.

I assume they doesn’t let you put Arabic in the public chats, if so, this could cause an issue with Blizzard.

you would see the Arabic letters in chat it’s only through the addon.

And this buy out?

How is that even possible when arabic is written & read right to left?

well, Regarding the recent purchase of Activision-Blizzard by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, there have been some questions about whether this could lead to increased support for the Arabic language in the game. However, so far there has been no direct indication that this investment will lead to changes in this area. While we hope that the company will continue to work towards greater inclusivity and accessibility for all players, it’s important to acknowledge that community efforts like those of Platine and Dragonarab, who have created an addon to support Arabic chat in WoW, are a powerful way to make progress in the meantime.

I understand your concern, but actually, it is possible to type and read Arabic in WoW chat now. The addon works similarly to how Notepad on Windows does it: when you have the Arabic language in your keyboard, you can hit the right CTRL+Shift key to make the text display from right to left. You can see examples of this on the Twitter link included in the original post.

good stuff, chat should be allowed for all languages, considering all the north european can use their wierd accented leters that no one else can type ON THEIR CHAR NAMES to avoid /target and reports

Avoiding targeting and reports isn’t why they do it.

I have a paladin named Stjärnasång.

I’m not avoiding reports, I took two words and combined them. Star. Song.

use english letters in english game. or you want all people to use their lanauge?
