World of Warcraft game director details which combat add-ons are safe and which will be eliminated in the coming purge

I don’t think they are looking to break all addons. I use all sorts for collecting. I can’t see any reason any of those would be broken.

It’s definitely combat things they are going after and trying to make the standard UI more functional.

I remember back in WoD when they broke Exorsus Raid Tools so we couldn’t plan out where to position our team on certain fights in Mythic HFC. Similar to WAs it was not fun wiping because someone didn’t have the right version or something didn’t track properly due to lag etc.

I miss SmartBuff and SmartDebuff - one mouse scroll to apply raid buffs and one click in a mini overlay that didn’t obscure half your screen to remove a debuff were nice. Sadly the addon was no longer updated after some expansion. :-/ Never found another addon with the same simple functionality, where you don’t need a degree in programming to get to the same point.

I like their approach that we shouldn’t really need addons to play, just to tweak some pieces if desired. However, the Blizzard UI has been severely lackluster till I think the DF changes? And even afterwards, their implementations are still lackluster. If we can expect Cooldown Manager-like quality of their implementations of whatever it is they want to cover themselves, it’s gonna be disastrous: it doesn’t really fill the issue they wanted to cover…they missed the goal by miles.

Also:

Tracking of group abilities will no longer function in add-ons after the changes, so things like other players’ cooldowns won’t be visible, he said. That might, in turn, lead to dungeons with fewer interrupts in a pack of mobs, which might in turn lead to less reliance on classes with abilities that stop a whole pack of enemies from casting.

That just makes me not want to pug at all anymore. I rather see whether someone actually presses their defensive, and when, so we can adjust our group cooldowns on it.

EnemyGrid made enemy nameplates like raid frames, a nice grid of it to any enemies around you. Made observing nameplates a lot easier and manageable vs the awful one Blizz has with overlapping or “stacking”, which sucks if the tank is mass pulling… you’re bound to not DoT a few.

Did I miss something important? x)
I only skimmed through it, all I needed to see was the title.
I understood that it’s the same with why they removed Druids & Rogues auto attack range, it’s just harder to balance things around melee classes attacking from range.

Most annoying is the part with them overlapping even if you’ve selected “not overlapping” in the base UI…

The only WA I HAD to rely on really was Mythic Achimonde in HFC… those beams were just awful to deal with to avoid cross firing onto allies while coordinating with your linked player. :grimacing:

Everything else I just wing it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Them designing more “puddles on the ground” because they coudn’t be tracked as easily by addons is one statement.

Exactly, hence me putting it in quotes. It’s rubbish, and we’re stuck with it.

I get it now, interesting.

Yeah and I’m glad they’re choosing the scalpel over the butchers knife here, one of my biggest concerns was always RP landing in the crossfire of a (kinda needed) crusade against combat addons.

Earliest I can recall was MoP I think? forgot the name but the addon actively painted danger circles on the ground (which now is an ingame feature thankfully), I remember seeing footage of the nazgrim fight I think.

They only combat addons I use are DBM and Threat Plates.

It will be interesting if they ditch DBM because a lapse in concentration and not having a defensive up for a tank buster is R.I.P sometimes.

I never pay attention to the bosses cast bar. Although some stuff I just remember when it happens, it’s usually when tons of other bad stuff is happening.

Sooo they are getting rid of OmniCD? Bad idea, one of the more usefull addons that should have been integrated. This just gives premades even more advantage over PuGs.

PS Incorporate “Class Colors”. Let me change my paladin from this horrible pinkness.

Well the addons are not used by choise but because it is mandatory to know what condition your party member has just pressed or still has left cause otherwise you will overlap. So they will need to add something to the default ui then to show that the party member just pressed something and the healer wont overlap and waste his cooldowns on vain.

And if they dont, there will be even less healers that wishes to play with pugs from lfg if they can simply play with friends and coordinate these in comms if we cant see them with addons.

So not only for pve but also pvp this will create situation where there is even less healers wishing to play with pugs. And the people that play in comms with friends have even greater advantage cause somebody just says “i wall” and the healer saves his cooldown for next.

Omnicd or omniaura are pretty much mandatory for both pve and pvp in end game yeah. Omniaura replaced bigdebuffs some time ago and shows conditions on nameplates and partyframes. I could not imagine playing wow without these functionalities.

That on the partyframe showing evasion and shadow blades is omniaura, not only does the healer know to give him some buff for dmg now but he would also know to hold some defensives or cds otherwise which would be in vain if the guy is already using defensive against something. This is done both in pvp and pve, it will be very bad for gameplay to not being able to have this type of control.

Don’t worry, they won’t. That or make it baseline.

This game lives and dies on high M+ and raid. It’s literally all catered to that, high end players like omnicd.

It’ll either get removed and replaced with a built in version or Tettles will make a video moaning about it and it will be reverted. These latest patches have been absolute stinkers. Complete none content. Player patience is at an all time low, it’s going to be a mess if he tries to force this.

If we can butcher Aug like we did with our complaints, what do you think will happen when he removes a much loved feature?

So
Instead of letting things be as they are, and players use the things as they want to blizz is going to try to do the “addon” job themselves.
I do not see this working out and predict in practice, if they actually go through with this, it will end up in us players having fewer and fewer options to customise and play the game the way that works for us and we enjoy.

Blizz seems to be on a mission of fixing what isnt broken these days, same with the whole Dinar system

Wishing you a lovely day

Add-ons that make boss fights easier means they have to make boss fights more complicated thus making add-ons more necessary

I don’t see the issue.

Addons aren’t gated behind a paywall…anyone can download them. Private auras remove the egregious addon usage.

If addons “play the game for you” like so many claim, then why are there so few mythic clears compared to player numbers?

It’s because it’s a stupid lie.

I can just already see it how they wont add anything on partyframes or anything to show in nameplates for cds and conditions. So we will just overlap million things and gameplay becomes even more bad and random and it already is pretty random and bad in soloqs for example.

This will mean that you wont see what cc the target has so you will use your cc and overlap or be confused that why it says immune when theres already something affecting the target but it either has bad visual effect or its burried under all the explosions and splish splosh the game has for effects these days.

I can just see it how they break mandatory addons but dont add anything on its place, will also contribute on more people quit or moving away from pug gameplay and more towards coordinated groups who play via comms anyway. Any solo dps player should not be happy for such changes as this will hurt you the most when it would be even more worse for healers and tanks to play with pugs so they just wont.

The game is not designed to be played with ppl pressing things randomly. The difference in communicating with a group of friends or playing with pugs is quite significant when nothing can be controlled and people push random things random times and you can only adapt to them but if we cant even track or see what they press or have left then it becomes even worse and Imo pointless, more boring with even less control over the outcome. I guess I could go in in-game voice with everyone as well but Im not going to do that, nor should I need to.
