World of Warcraft is becoming unplayable due persistent bugs

Bugs in World of Warcraft have always existed, which is understandable given the vastness and variety of its content. Recently, however, the developers’ neglect in fixing these bugs has started to get out of hand. The game is reaching a point of unplayability. Here are the bugs currently affecting the game (some have been present for years without ever being resolved). It’s important to note that these bugs persist even without any add-ons. After repairing the game, reinstalling it, deleting the Interface, WTF, and Cache folders, testing it on several other PCs, and resetting account variables, these issues remain:

  • A pop-up window continuously informs about the possibility of unlocking profession specializations, even though it’s not true.
  • Dragonflight mounts sometimes stutter in movement.
  • Some quests (like the Sparks quest) remove themselves from the quest log.
  • Occasionally, the character disappears and becomes invisible.
  • Applying a transmog enchant to a weapon can corrupt it, causing an enchanter’s wand transmog to appear instead of the original weapon.
  • On certain characters, the health bars of every NPC are either enabled or disabled; options for “only in combat” or “only for quest NPCs” don’t work.
  • Sometimes NPC and friendly player health bars show up even outside of combat, but only for certain mobs or players.
  • Health bars for totems, pets, ghouls, and imps aren’t hidden properly, making battlegrounds, especially epic ones, unplayable due to hundreds of red bars cluttering the screen.
  • Items in the bags sometimes can’t be moved.
  • Herbs and minerals disappear while gathering them.
  • Dungeon entrance icons disappear from the map until you are physically in that area.
  • The world quest for the weekly world boss disappears from the map.
  • When minimizing and reopening the game, the resolution changes, and the game needs to be restarted.
  • When defeating a boss, an incorrect list of items dropped by the boss appears.
  • The objective list on the right side of the screen disappears entirely and requires a reload to come back.
  • Rollbacks occur where talent setups, spell positions on the bars, and even the order of characters on the main menu revert to changes made days before.
  • Pressing “N” sometimes opens the talent tree correctly, while other times it randomly opens the spellbook.
  • Sometimes killed bosses in the journal do not show up with a red X.
  • Certain abilities on the action bars don’t correctly show their cooldown, appearing available when they’re still in cooldown.
  • Other bugs I encounter daily…

I’ve been passionate about this game for over 10 years, but I’m finding it impossible to continue under these conditions. If anyone could help, I would be eternally grateful!

This one is absolutely grinding my gears. It happens very often and is super annoying.
Another really annoying one is a quest thats already in your questlog continuously popping up as a new quest, and every time it pops up the supposed rewards increase, from 1 Pinnacle Chest to 2, all the way up to 10+.

I cannot express with words how freaking annoying this is. :rage: :rage:

That, the autoloot bug 1/3 chance of missing, and the stupid Sargeras cinematic popping up everytime I log in trigger me so hard.

That’s why they had to do a whip around the community and sell those new dinosaur mounts

Its not cheap running a game like wow

Do you honestly think they are going to keep all that cash and not use it to hire new/ increase staff hours to help get rid off all these bugs

*Other versions of wow are just as buggy, I hope they have some cash left over to fix those afterwards

Auto loot not looting and channelled spells being cancelled are two that really upset me now.

Where be fix, Blizz??

I wont deny the existence of these bugs, but cant say i personally encountered any of the bugs on your list. The only bug im currently experiencing is the one where a bunch of titles are awarded every time i log in.

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: i most definitely think they are gonna keep that cash.

The bug on engine causing performance drops were interesting read from the twitter link, I wonder if its fixed the post is month old. I found interesting results with addon named “addon usage” now in tww in some basic addons cpu usages, they definitely made changes for tww that handle addons worse and we cant play the game without auras or addons so these are not changes or bugs that can go unattended :dracthyr_a1:

Yup

And as they continue to add more code to the dusty behemoth, we’re going to see more and more bugs and borkage which they will try to fix and those fixes will in turn create more bugs.

This is the future. Sell up and move out if you don’t like what’s coming.
I cba with endgame so it doesn’t affect me, but those at the top, you seriously need to start considering if you really want to keep experiencing this because it will not get better.
Until of course we find something more advanced than burnt sand to make computer go

I saw someone say “20 year old game lagging 4000 dollar PCs” well I dont put more than half to my builds but pretty much my thoughts aswell. Somethings not right in the equation if can play modern games with no fault but old mmo drops fps and starts stutter when theres more than 10 people on screen in town or pvp.

Need to do something about the engine or have serious thought going forward with class mechanics designing and game optimization in mind if we have now reached the limits of the engine that its started to affect various contents gameplay, this game should run on mid and high end pcs with no fault. Optimizing better in relation to engine it uses would be advisable.

That was expected. Game client is simply too big.

We can to say that game is like a tower. Classic being the foundation and expansions are floors.
Well, only certain level of floors can be erected before building starts crumbling under it’s own weight.

Sure, they reinforced structure where is possible but that can only to help to certain extent before inevitable happens.

WoW2 is one and only rational way to go.

It’s about time they switched to a new engine and ported everything over

The one that annoys me most is the release button when you die being gone, very annoying in a key

Easier said than done. More work than rebuilding everything from scratch.

Don’t forget to check the previous expansion’s profession state when you encounter this. At least one char of mine got this dialog fixed by looking back to the Dragonflight profession tab and doing what needed to be done.

Otherwise I don’t recognize many issues listed here.

Nah porting models over to a different engine isn’t as time consuming as remodelling and rerigging

You can to copy paste 3d mesh and textures that’s about it. You can not to copy paste animations (aka you have to re-rig), light emitters, particle emitters etc. It would look ridiculous.

Definitely had this on several characters.

Only occasionally for you? For me it’s a daily thing, I log into game and everything is fine, I mount up and suddenly I (and my mount) disappear. Dismounting does not stop the problem, so it’s a relog or I just move around until I become visible again.

Had this in an epic bg, can’t say it was fun

Yes to this too, again it’s a wait for a while issue, eventually it seems to rectify itself after some time. And then you can have the joy of doing it all over again, when you next log in!!

Yeah.

This is so annoying, also have had several times where my ui gets reset, I always find at least one of my spell bars in the top left hand corner of my screen :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Yeah

I will also add some other bugs I have encountered so far, invisible walls, one being in Dalaran where I could not access the portal back to Org. Easy work around I just hearthstone back to Dornagal and used portal from there, but still annoying.

Auto loot not working as others have mentioned.

Trying to open SL on an alt (for mog runs), the quest line is bugged,so although you are transported to Oribos, you don’t get a follow on quest so you cannot open the Maw.

This one also.

As OP says other smaller inconveniences encountered daily, like NPC’s I am unable to interact with. I have gotten tired of submitting bug reports, and I shouldn’t have to spend a significant portion of my time doing this.

On a final note, thanks for posting Vetus, as selfish as this sounds, it made me feel better that it wasn’t just me experiencing such problems.

Found a load of bugs today. For example…

  • cannot queue for Blackrock Depths raid at 20th Anniversary event as my character “does not meet the requirements” and when I submit a ticket a GM with a name that looks like an AI spambot replies an answer to a question I didn’t ask, third time lucky maybe.
  • the 2oth Anniversary portal to Tiragarde Sound won’t work for me and I have no idea why. It is also spelled ‘Tiragard’ without an ‘e’ on the end, although that is probably not the reason why.
  • there is a “Make Loh Go” very close to somewhere I had to go and thought I might do it for fun, however when I get to the finish it says “Oh no, it doesn’t go like that!” instead telling me I did it. That is properly weird!
  • the entire ‘help’ part of the Blizzard website is not working. I just get sent round and round in circles, unable to submit bugs or ask for help. The help I’ve had for the issue mentioned above is of the poorest quality I’ve ever had from Blizzard, who are normally very good at sorting out problems, and now I can’t even report the bugs I’m finding. Which is why I’m typing this right now. Perhaps the system is overwhelmed with all the bugs so to avoid having to try to look at more to fix the system just takes users round in circles?
  • I’m logged in to Blizzard but can’t report any issues on the website because I have to have a level 10 character. I do actually have one right now, but I have 63 characters that level 70 or higher. It says I can try WoW for free or download Battle.net and I should ogin, but it sees that I’m logged in.
  • before I completely lose my sanity I’m going to do something completely different as this is properly messed up.

The game needs a new engine, but anyone who thinks that Blizzard should use Unreal Engine 5 should go back to playing Fortnite or Hello Kitty.
