World of Warcraft's Glorious Purpose

As long as they don’t base an entire expansion around it, I can handle some conflict.
I won’t enjoy those parts, but meh. If the rest of the story/expansion is good, I can deal with it.

But yeah, sometimes players want the exact opposite things. It happens.
One of us will just have to cope.

I guess you didn’t enjoy MoP all that much?

I played it after the fact (during WoD). I never played it when it was current content (I quit near the end of WotLK and returned during WoD). That’s why it’s the only Classic expansion I would like to play. To experience it a bit more like how it was.

Because I did enjoy my experience there. But… It might have been a very different experience with loads of players there and content rolling out.

But I loved most of the zones (I never liked the destruction/corruption of some -parts of- zones, that was disappointing).

To me that expansion wasn’t about faction conflict. I went there in search of Anduin and found these cool new people.

And hell: My stance is made manifest in a way by this stupid useless faction conflict actively harming a peaceful, beautiful place. Just goes to prove that it shouldn’t be a thing anymore.

The world being destroyed isn’t specific to faction conflict. Deathwing wasn’t a faction.

The world changes, sometimes for the better, sometimes not.

I never claimed that. So don’t strawman me please.

That wasn’t the point of what I said. In MoP we -as factions- caused the damage. Because of that stupid dumb hatred for each other. That was a MAJOR plot of the expansion.

I think it’s completely justified.

People already kill each other in real life because skin tones are slightly darker or lighter, because they get intimate with people of the same gender, or because they worship a different ghost.
But we’re all human. Same species, same goals. same needs. Conflict exists all the same.

In the WarCraft universe, there aren’t just multiple races. There are species. Some are cursed like the Worgen. Some are literal zombies who stink of death and decay.
You were living peacefully as a Human until a bunch of green savages came to your world after destroying their own, and they now claim your land as theirs?

Of course there is conflict in this world. You may not like it but you can’t say it doesn’t make sense.

Yes. Humans are fricking stupid. I know that.

I didn’t say that.
I said it was dumb and stupid. And I stick by those words.

It is what it is. But to think all these vastly different species would get along and set aside their differences is very naive and would make for extremely unrealistic storytelling.

As opposed to what we’ve been getting?
“Okay”

The purpose was to make the “The internet is for ****” video and the south park episode

Yes, let’s go for realism with our talking cow people and blue space goats…

Seriously though, the issues are more practical: Population figures (Especially for high-end content) are lopsided as hell, being so bad now that the imbalance itself is a reason for people to go Horde, accelerating it even more. (And both sides would profit from more players for queue-able activities)

We need fewer barriers between players, not more, regardless of how cool a story some people think it would make.

You know what’s really pointless, The War of the Factions. What is the Point? You Orc, me Hunan, argh!!

The Fight in BFA (the only expansion where it was in any way relevant to the story of the Expansion) was “Big Tree go crackle crackle because Fire is awesome!”.

Also this is an RP game, you can have whatever lore you want most of the time. RP being mad at the other faction becuase they burnt down your farm or whatever and PVP for that.

This comment would only make sense if I had been praising the writing team for their incredible storytelling.

Physical appearance isn’t the biggest difference. It’s culture and values. You guys want nature worshipping Night Elves to be BFF with goblins.

There’s also a history of genocide between Orcs and Draenei.
Let’s not forget that Garona is the result of an inter-species rape.

No… Your argument that it ‘would make for extremely unrealistic storytelling’, suggests that that is not the case otherwise. Because if it’s not; then why care? It’s already unrealistic storytelling (which is btw pretty much the case imo).

Oh yes it’s garbage right now.

That cutscene where Fyrakk is about to axe Alextrasza but doesn’t because of the power of friendship is complete and utter trash.
They’re really afraid to commit. Oh no! Stakes! Not in my video game…

Simple.

Have Horde genocide Alliance and win the war.

Make everyone play Horde, remove Alliance.
Make Horde split into civil war, making two new factions from 1.

Problem solved.

The story telling in DF has been poor, as has a lot of the story itself.

But replacing it with an equally poor or even worse story is not the way to go.
We need better stories and story telling. This could incluse more faction war, there is plenty of scope around Gilneas to provide a theatre for conflict. I would quite like to see a the Gilneans take back their city and hinterland and perhaps even up into Silverpine Forest. Maybe we get a Kul Tiran settlement in Southshore.

But simply let’s just have war for the sake of war isn’t good story telling. BFA didn’t do a good job at giving a good reason for the Battle for Azeroth.

I agree. I don’t want it to happen randomly either.
The example you gave with Gilneas is fine with me.

It always goes back to conflict. That’s what people seem to want. And honestly I agree. Conflict has always been a part of this game, even if it’s done badly. There was always an Alliance and a Horde and they were against each other.

Also I find it laughable that people think you could take the denizens of Azeroth and have them holding hands and skipping across flowery fields while buttercups flap their wings and birds sing and all that crap.
No, we are talking about people who hate each other’s guts based on a war that has been going on for decades. Theramore, Teldrassil, Zuldazar, a lot of people have a bone to pick.
So for anyone who thinks that because Thrall became Anduin’s new daddy everyone else is just gonna forget about the damage that’s been caused to them by the opposing faction so they can instead do the flowery fields skipping, get real.
Also I hope now that Metzen’s back he can introduce a bit of testosterone to that writing team. They seem to be in dire need of some.

Doesn’t really sound like it solves anything. Just recreates the problem they are trying to fix atm.
