World quest design - What is going on?

During legion i used to love doing some world quests. They were quick and easy for the most part. You can get it over with within reasonable times, with decent enough rewards.
Rewards are still ok, not really lacking yet. The problem is the overall design.

Why is it for every expansion since legion the world quests are getting worse and worse? Is there some sort of hidden benefit from designing quests to be annoying and time consuming that i dont get? Having to spend 40 min on completing a single world quest is NOT FUN, and is straight up making me angry and extremely annoyed.

One example is the Recovery Job quest in Hallowfall. What even is this?! You have to loot a box, 80% of them are decoys. There is 50 people trying to complete it at the same time, and its designed in a way that wont let more than one person get progress at a time so its just dragging on and on and on. The worms in ringing deeps is another example, but at least that one more than one can tag at a time.

I remember a while ago Blizz saying, “You should be pleased to see other players in the world”.
If I see another player doing the Seagull quest in Dorn, the Worm quest in Ringing Deeps or the Recovery Job quest in Hallowfall, my heart sinks. What is even worse for the Recovery Job quest is that if you group up, progress isn’t shared.
Just who is this meant to be fun for?

Blizzard is very inconsistent with this kind of quest. Sometimes they make it so everyone can interact with a quest object, other times it is once-per-player, which is obviously very annoying at the start of a patch when everyone is doing the quest simultaneously.

Just did Recovery Job and I kept getting sniped for the tools, having everyone compete for the quest items was the worst decision they could make for a world quest, I hate this world quest and will not do that one again when I see it in future.

This is exacly my issue though. They are so annoying noone is going to do a single one after the gear rewards are no longer usable due to ilvl. The rep/renown reward is abysmal, time is better spent elsewhere.

Would it not be better to lean the design more towards how it was in legion? Easy and quick to do, shared progress. No getting stuck on a single quest for 20-40 min. Make rep/renown rewards actually decent so they are worth doing until capped.

I dont even know how many thousands of world Qs i completed during legion, but i kept doing them all expansion as long as i was playing. I already know im never doing another one in TWW after a few more weeks, unless something changes. It was the same in DF and BFA.

This is not benefiting anyone. Its making us annoyed, but for what reason? Its pointless to keep it this way. The amount of people that sub just because world quests are fun can probably be counted on one hand, so it has no significant monetary value for them… All I am left with is the feeling that the people who designed this has never played a video game in their life, and it would be better for everyone including devs if players did not feel this way.

Couldnt agree more with this. Been playing since 2005 but I am definitely not re-subbing when my current runs out. I play MMO games to relax, take it all and go at my own pace. This game has become so obnoxious because they really dont seem to know how to manage it.

The WQ are just frustrating because its a case of waiting around for spawns on pretty much everything, so seeing another player is annoying rather than benefical, I literally wish I could play in a map on my own half the time

The AH is a mess because they dont stop the scammers

Everything is a free for all, gathering nodes, motes, dirt, whatever it is someone gets there first.

It makes it a case of feeling rushed to get to everything before someone else does, which is not relaxing.

Other MMOs I play like GW2, BDO for example have none of this crap, and they are FREE TO PLAY.

Its a real shame because I love so many things about this expansion, the maps are some of my all time favourites, I really enjoy the crafting, the rep grind is even fun.

The problem is, other people. And it’s not them, it’s Blizzard seemingly creating a game that promotes being enfuriated time after time by the other players due to the way everything is implemented. I’m not paying to play an MMO where the worst thing about it is seeing other people doing the same activity.

In GW2 you WANT people to be there, it’s helpful. I never once thought oh god there is someone already here in GW2. Luckily, they just released a new DLC which has homesteads in it, so I’ll run my sub out on this then I’m going to back to that, those guys know how to operate an MMO that is relaxing AND makes it fun to play with others.
