Worldofwarcraft.com goes to us version by default

How is it still a thing, that worldofwarcraft.com directs me to worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/ instead of /en-gb ?! This is such a trivial thing to fix. I know that X number of monkeys will eventually fix it, but how about you put those monkeys back where they belong and hire a frickin’ dev instead?!

Works fine for me and is correctly redirecting me to en-gb so I would say the issue lies in your browser.

when i go to https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-gb/ i get the EU forums
when i go to https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-gb i get the US forums

Or, you could just check the settings in your browser and change it from EU-US to EU-EN. If your browser itself is set to US, that is where the links will go to.

If like me, you use Chrome, it’s in Settings->Advanced and a long way down the list…

I had to remove the English (United States) and add the English (United Kingdom)

Your browser will set to either EN-US or has a setting that not been configured, the other day I noticed that Norwegian was going to the US still.

If it’s English (United Kingdom) as default then it should go to en-gb

I shouldn’t have to do anything. Period. 99 % of the visitors from within EU would expect to go to an EU version by default. This should be set by checking from what region the player connects from. It’s a common practice on the interwebz since this millennium. Telling the visitor it’s their fault since they haven’t gone into Settings > Advanced > blabla… is NOT how a proper UI/UX is made.

If this was a brand new indie company with less than 6 months under its belt, I would have thought it’s ok, they will fix it eventually. But this… this is ridiculous.

If you tell your browser you are an American how do you expect it to know that you want to go to an EU site?

this shows actually that something is wrong with rewrite rules
manually overriding preferred language settings should always be accepted

just like there’s no proper 404-not-found page yet eg if you type
https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/

oh dear…

I was going to explain but you probably wouldn’t understand the answer.

Right…instead of pressing 1 button in your browser. A long whine post is a better option?.

Praise be to battle.net the Compassionate, the Merciful.

Type wow eu in google.

One could also expect that when installing a browser, it installs in the language set in Windows… but it didn’t for you and it didn’t for me. It automatically assumed I wanted English-United States. Had it installed according to my operating system preference, neither you or I would have had to change anything.

Or just change the language setting in your browser as mentioned above.

They need to create website with good standards that detect region. We have 2k19 we need to change browser settings to have access to valid forum? It’s a joke. It’s not free to play gameforge game. We PAYING to this company so we need to get high quality content not just in game.

It is. It is detecting the region your browser is set to. For good reason. If you were French and visiting the UK, you would not want the warcraft pages to suddenly show you everything in English, you would want it to remain in French, so it uses your browser Language.

Fitst of all it isnt broken it does not need fixing there are so many issues in the game that you are being petty and demanding something to be fixed that is not on their end but on your end please be considerate and dont be lazy and change your browser settings so you wont have any issues anymore have nice day sir .

Also making a crusade against Blizzard for petty stuff is not a nice way to deal trust me :joy:.

The phrase “flogging a dead horse” would seem to apply here.
