So from the interview discussing addon direction with game director (link: pcgamer(.)com/games/world-of-warcraft/world-of-warcraft-game-director-details-which-combat-add-ons-are-safe-and-which-will-be-eliminated-in-the-coming-purge/), there are some worrying things that stood out to me.
So while disabling computational addons so more and more functionality is available into the base game, some comments got me really worried:
Tracking of group abilities will no longer function: This simply seems like a repeat of hidden auras. It disable a functionality that is essential for the end game and will just lead to unwanted solutions (like outside programs/overlays offering that functionality).
Nameplates being unable to be edited with conditionals: This functionality was a godsend for specs with dots, that you could color code nameplates depending to if they had their debuffs or not. Same thing with having the ability to hide nameplate of certain mobs (small mobs in certain dungeons that did nothing but clutter your screen).
From examples like these, I am worried that instead of addressing the problem of weak auras solving problems for you, they instead will fall into the trap of just making their UI that much worse. Every change they made with the UI redesign was a good one, because it ADDED things, without removing functionality. This direction and things they shared is going to the opposite direction, with removing functionality form the game, and actually increasing frustration/making the experience worse.
Honestly as someone that has been using UI enhancing addons for years, but especially heavily since M+, I do hope Blizzard can kill off the need for stuff like UI, WA and plater addons.
At the same time they need to chill with combat information/feed to compensate for it (altho how they’ll manage that I’ve no idea).
As it is now, it feels like/ is an acid trip tanking without the aid of said addons in M+ specifically.
What did my addon that makes my minimap look nice to you?
Or allthethings?
Or my addon that makes meep when I stand in fire. That’s very important I tend to not see that stuff
Those MMOs didn’t exist for 20 years with addons from the very beginning.
Want to alienate players, have him quit in droves? Get rid of addons, then you’ll be here crying there’s no one around and dungeon queues take 2 hours.
How about people like you get a life and stop imposing your bs nonsense onto other players, or bugger off and play those MMOs that don’t allow addons.
The funny thing is that addons ruin the game’s view for 90% of players because there’s too much information (and they don’t know how to read it). Some are even worse with addons.
Removing addons will help average and even semi-hardcore players, I’m sure of it.
Removing addons can only benefit the game.
Raiders and top MM+, pvp players (who understand and can read addons are less than 0.5%), and a good player will adapt.
and addons like omnicd dlete(this addon doesn’t bother me) will perhaps make you sociable by voice
(Yes, I know, tracking your allies’/enemies’ CDs and some buff/trash buff (because the interface/passif is awful) is part of the skillscap. When you’re used to it, it’s cool, but playing without it would be just as good.)
if they can backe in the platter abilities they can ban it for all I care, if they have ElvUI capabilities an addon (I use since 2009 / 2010) they can remove it, if their cd manager is customizable like a WA remove them.
as a person in a different post said they want me to get out of my F1 car and jump into a Corolla and love it…
i love to see them fixing up ALL dungeons they made the last 10 -12 years because they are now in the m+ rotation, and they will not be doable without kick tracking or cd tracking.
What i am a bit confused about regarding this addon stuff is that some addons seem to be very much on the chopping block, like omnibar, or DBM/weakauras, but others that are purely on your end, like bartender/dominos won’t get touched
What about inbetween style addons like “bigdebuffs” or omnicc? They don’t track cooldowns per se, but stuff like DRs and duration of debuffs, are those being banned too? A bit murky
I’m already social on voice with my friends. However if you mean talk to strangers on voice, then hard pass. I would rather play something else entirely than having to listen to someone do a faceroll on their overly loud keyboard and swear in 3 different languages that I don’t understand. Forcing people into VC with strangers is one way to kill the game.
