So… I recently race-changed to a Zandalari Troll since they have been released, and I’d been looking forward to it ever since the news about them coming out as an allied race, and tbh, im a bit dissapointed.
The race itself is super cool but the animations are a bit silly. first of all they are massive. idk if blizz intended to make them this huge originally. It doesn’t seem like any of the other races in the game, even come close to their size. That in itself is pretty cool, however this leads to some challenges when it comes to animations.
The runnning is the first issue, its seems clunky, and the character looks silly doing to, like the running is half-assed, basically running like he is out of breath but just have to keep going, leaping like half a step everytime.
Second is the jumping. Jumping is pretty cool (if you jump forwards only) the way the legs kinda gets dragged a bit backwards makes no sense when you are to hold your “S” button and press spacebar simultaniously.
Third thing i’ve notices is that Zandalari trolls turn smaller when you are mounting a pterrordax
(unfortunately i can’t show screenshots here, however, you can try it yourself if u curious)
Hope these changes are getting looked at, cause i really want to be playing as this awesome race, but i just can’t look past these aesthetics
That’s the same problem on male Night Elves too. That’s why I picked up a female Zandalari. I don’t think that they will change something on the male Zandalari, at least not in this expansion.
They are huge cause zandalari’s are lorewise the biggest of all trolls. Vol’jin was small compared to zandalari’s and u can see how big vol’jin is compared to varian in the siege cinematic.
Only complaind i have is they have the same rasp animation as nelf males. Which is really ugly.
The run animation doesn’t bother me, but it can still be make smoother. From side and from front it looks really fine.
I only wish 2H special was changed (Slam on arms warrior, and crusader’s strike on paladin), as it’s the only combat animation that is still shared with nelf, and it’s ugly.
There is also that special attack where he seems to be using dual wield weapons and about to split someone’s scull in half, it is pretty cool for special ability but it doesn’t make sense for tank with shield to move like that.
Those are details but they contribute to overall image.
I still love my Zandalari prelate.
And I’d do something with their racials as Loa ones are underperforming and regeneratin’ is useless most of the time. I’d rather have smaller value but without such a long cast and damage anullment.
Yes indeed. Only noticed that on mine yesterday and it’s rather cool. On a Zanda rogue I’d like it a bit more crouched in stealth if I’m being picky but overall I really like them. New gestures would have been nice rather than using those from other classes and the troll dance would have suited them better than the dance they have. Minor, trivial things really given how good the rest is.
