Worth starting?

as the title says, is it worth even starting to play wrath at this point?

It is if you like wrath and enjoy having fun. If not then don’t bother.

how is that useful at all? Am I going to be able to catch up? am I going to be able to find people to play with and do content? What’s the general state of the game right now?

Good active and healthy state of the game. Plenty of raids going on, a lot of guilds recruiting, AH is alive, haven’t encountered toxic people so far. Leveling in wrath is long, so just go there are enjoy the journey, I wouldn’t worry to much about end-game, since ~120hours of leveling up awaits.

I play on earthshaker ally, and on mirrage raceway ally, both realms are very active and fun to play in.

You should be able to but that does depend on which server you do so. Smaller ones might suffer from lack of players for lower end content. Even on larger it’s unlikely to find people for dungeons deemed “waste of time”. Your ability to catch up will really depend in whether you’ll get into guild willing to invest in you and/or amount of gold you’ll manage to make for GDKP if existing on server. Most of it will come from dailies though. And with HC+ once you’ll be able to do it you’ll get fast influx of Current Tier Emblems to get up in power.

Take it or leave it answer: It is a good time to start if you are not an elitist, tryhard or immature.

I started a mage 5 days ago, there are enough levelers to form a group and do dungeons, reached level 28 already.

Thanks for all your replies :relaxed:
So as long as I find a decent server I should be able to do content and enjoy leveling.

Not really. Pyrewood village ally. Low level dungeons happens all the time. Not instant, but can do any dung at least once every evening. Usually much more. Esp. if you tank or heal.

Catching up is easier than ever. Grab few peaces from AH with your leveling gold, join old raid pugs that happen ALL the time. Nobody really needs anything from them except 1,2 peaces so gear is hardly contested, once you get a bit higher GS, join some HC+ meanwhile. No lame GDKPs needed ever.

You can get 4k GS in no time and then you all cought up.

I got my alt to 4.2gs in just 2 weeks (lucky, i know but still.)

EDIT: or join a dad guild and bypass everything

Lets say it this way: we play this game because we want to have fun and WoW provides this opportunity.
As the player who started playing WoW in SL season 3 and the one playing Dragonflight I could say it is worth it playing WotLK as long as Warcraft is fun for you. It took me a month to lvl my enha sham to 80 in classic, but I had much more fun on my way to max lvl( kinda too much XP required at last 10 lvls but you dive deep in every location to lvl through, old zones ,Outland Northrend . You feel all the vibe of WoW world. Cause if you play in retail right , lvling in 1-2 days is something taken for granted and what then? you stay in ugly Valdrakken looking for soloq or pve content …wow that is a game.
You either will love WotLK if you are kinda interested in WoW lore and all the stuff or will hate it due to effort you need to put in lvling only ( max lvl content is the next step). And if they will develop classic expansions then next one will be Cata and so on up to Df in a decade, so we can look at it as a brand new start to achieve all what is gone from the game.

Absolutely, just find the right group of players to play with.

Are you playing Alliance or Horde? I play on Thekal and it’s been great since I started 5 days ago.

Absolutely, just find the right group of players to play with.

why not? the expansion has just started

You can catch up, but you need crutches if you want to raid faster.
First and the biggest one: you need a lot of free time. Average raid time is 4 hours, this is minimum time you have to commit. And more time = more daily quests and more daily heroics.
Second - you need a guild that helps out new players. Even if you BORROW 10-100 gold - it’s a huge boost at the start of the game, and some guilds are starved for recruits, they might give you gold for free.
As you level up to lvl 80, you need gold to buy crafted epics (they have plummeted in price, on my megaserver crafted belt and boots are about 4k gold - huge boost in gs, they are so good they are better than my gear on my raiding characters). Where would you get 8-10k gold? The most obvious method can’t be discussed here but you know what it is. Gathering/crafting is not a good way to make money, but if you have more free time and you’re not playing on a big server, gathering is good. To actually get lods emone, you need to do dailies, such as JC daily (~100g per day), daily heroic (can be completed in normal Heroic dungeon), fishing daily and cooking daily. Other dailies are optional, as they yield much less gold.
And finally - have a tank/healer offspec. It reduces gs “requirement” to complete heroic+ dungeons, but try to ask guildies and friends to boost you. One day I was doing a heroic+ dungeon with a 3200gs armsprot warr and I was shocked at how much DPS he did compared to my 4200+ gs group mates. I looked up his gear - it was blue crafted gear and pvp pieces, however healing him was very comfortable. Also you can do old raids with people, they will gladly take you if you pass on their “bis” items, and you can loot “unneeded junk” that is actually ilvl 213 and acts as a great catch up gear.

My perception might be distorted since I played during JJ but no dungeons outside of Scarlet Monastery Happened on any regular basis. You could find others yes but it was more of a rarity than guarantee. Spent 3 hours looking for Gnomeregan group there as DPS/Healer one day.

Wrath has decent catch up mechanics (for the first time in Classic, really). As long as you choose a full server, you can join up and including in ICC patch and be perfectly fine. People are dropping out of endgame content all the time, so it is very likely a spot will open for you eventually no matter what you want to play.

My understanding and experience is as follows:

  • Up to at least 70, it’s solo. You may (will) find some groups, but don’t wait for it.
  • Depending on the server, you can find some dungeons to 80.
  • Then you need to man up and find people to do content approprite to your item level.

If you are interested in the zones, retail is actually better. (Sorry.) Lock at 30 or use Chromie.
If you are interested in the specs and reliving memories, sure, go ahead.
As a new player I’d assume leveling still takes 100+ hours so that’s your first question.

It’s random. There are only a few people doing higher levels, and if you have Questie to see where to go for a bunch of quests, you don’t need dungeons.

Certainly people do Deadmines and Wailing Caverns, and just after making a complaint thread some time ago about a dry month, I suddenly got two runs in Outland.

There are also techniques people don’t like to use these days, we’ve been educated not to harass people. But /w level appropriate people can help. I’m sure a lot are passively interested in anything, as long as they can travel there reasonably fast. Depends on you but prot pally can be viable for questing, on top of double spec, and 20 bags to carry swap gear, so.

Big part is the faction, and player behavior. On Mirage, alliance is 2-3 times as large as horde, but in a twisted logic it can also mean more cameradery with horde - there are regular topics here about GearScore and stuff, but with a smaller population, it can get more forgiving (both community aspect and utility, there is no one else).

ps.: I confused you for a moment, two blood elf pallies with K, i, y, a.

Not having a Pally on Pyrewood. Picked a Goat Shammy there though didn’t make much progress on her recently. It just so happened back then I had about 5-6 quests in Gnomeregan which amounted to about level and a half or so and some decent gear. Coupled with the fact that She was about 3 bars away from crossing the level cap for the dungeon I felt very pressed to find a group and at the same time couldn’t di anything that would grant me exp so I sat there leveling my leatherworking by killing Pigs in Eversong woods to get required leather.

Agreed, same experience here.
I want dungeon now - nada. Log out three hours later, disappointed.
I want to quest, but list anyway - instant invite from a full group looking for a replacement right now. Finished, list again, instant invite right after hearthstone to sort bags.

There are more than enough quests, that’s why I recommend Questie.
Around 35 it’s perfect time (for mayhem! oh hello Junkrat) to play through Mirage Raceway or Stranglethorn. Dustwallow or Arathi and Alterac if looking for a challenge. Or Desolace, if tired of lush
Just for the sake of example. I tend to pick a zone with a bunch of slightly lower quests, that way I can quickly earn 2-4 levels before moving on.

Agreed, as a shaman your options would get limited. Still can heal. Not entirely sure how the queue is filled these days, at some points it would be healer overload as that was the one role with really annoying outdoor experience. My enhancement is just saving the outside world.
