WOTLK is going to attract lot of tank

What will make a difference is a cross-server dungeon finding tool that basically just foregoes any communication to find a group. Because people like you, that don’t have the skills to find a group, can then just get assigned to a group by a computer program, instead of using communication skills to make people WANT to play with you.

And don’t worry about it. I will probably stop playing then, because with the lack of communication that will inevitably come with the dungeon browser, I will not be enjoying the game anymore. Has nothing to do with tanking or any other role. The whole feeling of the game will change, no matter what you do.

in fact every version of the game befre cataclysam is better version then the previous expansion

With most if not all dps specs finally having tight competition in PVE and importancy of PVE trinkets/weapons in PVP I know deficiency of tanks will stay, just slightly less extreme due to double spec factor, most people will use dual spec for PVP anyway.

What we are going to see is new way of tank deficiency, where every pug raid group would wan’t a protadin for successful raid while dk being strong but skill dependent tank compared to paladin, you won’t see many of such in the general pool of players.

What the hell is wrong with you?

I have two chars, prot warrior and ele sham. War is almost geared t5 bis and sham is one week fresh char.
When I’m on my warrior, I WILL NOT GO WITH PUG for dungeon, why?

  • I don’t need BoJ
  • I don’t need rep
  • I don’t need to socialise
  • time spent on dungeon for its minimum reward isn’t worth
  • tanking as warrior is tiresome, even while dual wielding and wearing lots of PvP/dps items
  • I don’t have enchanting here so “unwanteds for tank” doesn’t work on me
  • I don’t have profession which needs Primal Nether, so “nether for tank” also won’t work for me

Your whole “In a way that promises that it will be fun playing the game with me” is just silly.

Now, when I’m on my shaman, I have to be online at specific time to instantly whisper to someone looking for dps for dungeon I need for difficulty I want. I’ve spent whole week fishing for those, most unpleasant experience ever. Never again. Same with spamming “LF tank mecha” “LF tank SV hc” “LF tank SHH hc”…

What WotLK fixes?

  • first dungeon gives 2 “better” emblems so you have reason to go at least one
  • it’s RDF, no need to spam
  • tanking is easy
  • dungeons are quick
  • reps aren’t bound to specific dungeons, just tabards count
  • dual spec allows to quick respec
  • dungeons aren’t that hard, so gear isn’t super neccessary for smooth run

tl;dr: situation will definitely get better at WotLK

This. Also (i can only speak for paladins) tanking is actually fun in wotlk, while in tbc u use consecration and go afk.

TBC is a godly game BUT WotLK will be the absolute BEST. I can’t wait for wrath, jesus. Finally no more RNG fiesta in arena and every class is fleshed out. Also grizzly hills music brings tears to my eyes to this day. HYPETRAIN

Great start to make me not want to read your post and answer your questions. But I’ll do so anyways.

I usually don’t go with PuGs either. You know why? Because I have a network of people that love playing with me and that I love playing with.

I don’t even know what that means.

Me neither, yet if a buddy asks for help to farm rep, I tank for them.

Neither do I. But I enjoy it. It’s what makes classic very different from all the other crappy multiplayer-but-not-really-multiplayer-RPGs out there.

I have the reward of playing a game that I find fun. Worth it every time.

I don’t find it tiresome. I find it fun.

Neither do I… I don’t really get why you make this a point. In my groups, when there is an enchanter with us, we usually pass on BoPs and the enchanter rolls greed. At the end of the dungeon everyone gets a fair share of the shards.

So? Most people do have a profession. So your personal reason is not really interesting for the topic.
When I talk about my own preferences, they are merely examples for my arguments. You’re just pretending it’s a reason for something.

How so?

Yes, but…

If you spam, you’re already doing it wrong. And RDF is not very enjoyable. It’s as boring as watching the grass grow and turns the game into a below average singleplayer game.

That sounds like a downside to me. One more step towards boredom.

And therefore you make them a hundred times a day, which is just boring

That is a good change. But has the downside of making one dungeon the most efficient to farm rep instead of having a need and a motivation to run different dungeons.

So? Tanks will tank. Not-Tanks will not tank. No matter if they have a spec for it or not.

Smooth runs are boring. A challenge is more fun.

Matter of taste, my dude.

But this whole thread isn’t discussion what’s more fun lol, it’s about how bad situation is right now if you’re fresh 70 char and how better it will be in WotLK.

if you’re fresh 70 you’re very late to the party anyway.

Alts do exist and that’s not an excuse.

If it’s an alt, you should already know plenty of people who will help you.

They do, but I can’t ask them to help with every single dungeon on my way

Why can’t you?

First, besides gearing my char there are other things in game and outside of game to do more important.

Secondly, don’t derail thread, it isn’t about me and my friends. Tank shortage is a fact and WotLK will fix it quite fast

Have you played wotlk? It fixed nothing.

Yet oddly enough, I remember people complaining about waiting 10-15 minutes for a tank.

WoD added a call-to-arms satchel for tanks in dungeons too, people still had to wait for tanks.

The bottom line is simply: Most people find tanking rather boring, and those that actually enjoy it tend to play with their friends and guildies rather than randos.

if you find anyone at all … tanks were always short supply in all stages of wow. your statements are almost a reenactment of the dscussion a decade ago …

my prediction is that wotlk wont take off. the classic community never asked for a rerun of expansions. and tbc has shown that clearly. thats why tbc is dead (remember the hype and how ez tanking would be with palas and druids now viable?) and - i think - wotlk is DoA. for me it is the transition xpac from wow to retail wow, i suspect many will feel this way.

Another “it didn’t fix it perfectly, so I’ll go extreme” -.-’

Again, nobody is saying “In WotLK you’ll be able to queue up and get a group starting in a couple mins even as a DPS”. But there’s a huge difference between:

WotLK) If you queue up only as a DPS, expect to wait as long as 15-30 mins for a group to pop up

and

TBC) If you’re a DPS, be prepared to spend over 1h spamming LF tank before even finding one, especially if it’s not a daily and/or it’s an annoying heroic, and you might even have to whisper ppl or even PAY for a friggin tank to help you.

How can you even claim that the WotLK situation I described above is not, all in all, an improvement over TBC? And mind you, the situation above is described from the PoV of a pure DPS class like a mage or rogue who can only queue as DPS. If you’re one of the hybrid classes and you get Dual Spec in WotLK, the difference with the current TBC situation is night and day. You basically go from “nobody wants me as retradin/spriest/boomkin” to “I swap to my secondary spec and group pops up instantly on LFD”.

P.S.: Nobody here is denying that one could argue about other flaws of the LFD system, such as anonymity, x-server shenanigans and whatnot. But the basic point that the tank shortage is lower on WotLK than on TBC should rly be beyond disputation.

EDIT: Also

Speak for yourself. Or just go back to Vanilla if that’s what you prefer.

I do enjoy tanking (and healing) as is, very much in fact, however the outside world is so slow that I got bored after so many Ramparts: 59-62 (tank) and 57-62 (healer; felt good, happy customer compliments). Also, what exactly is the point of doing whatever if I can’t progress to raiding because I won’t commit. A bit more defense rating won’t make me kill things faster out there. And I’m really not the type that requires, dunno, 25g per dungeon run so that they can pay my respec bills.

Nobody wanted to group up before 58, nobody cared.
But if I hit 70 as a damage dealer, then I might as well stay a damage dealer.
Instead, I’m stuck at 62. I’m just totally burned out of it.

That’s why the WLK model is superior. One hand, double spec. Other, pull 8 mobs and area damage them. Even if quests are a bit slow, farming was viable.

Side note, the LFG add-on was great as it did allow me to monitor opportunities and switch accordingly, now with the default restricted one I’m not sure. Might as well check if people still use it.

As for WLK, I’m actually worried about the side effect of everything ongoing, BC is much less popular than it has been at the start, which is partly a good thing (was terrible) but I’m a bit afraid BC won’t keep / WLK won’t get traction. Especially as devotees of previous expansions will stick to said servers, meaning each server has a literally dead pre-expansion life. 'cause theoretically, my struggles with finding BRD groups should have been non-existent.
