Mechagnomes is a very niche race, it’s one of those races were only certain people would like, and it’s been getting a lot of critism and praise, they look nice but there are many " oh I hate this " in their designs.
So I’m thinking, if the alliance got a properly proportioned gnome race which shouldn’t be that hard, probably just extending the arms, legs and torso abit and make the heads smaller, kinda like the halfings in other fantasy games.
Would the Alliance like that kind of race, and would it tempt you as a horde player to switch?
That you just take human model and set it to 0.5 scale?
It wouldn’t look good, that I’m sure of, 100%.
I mean, there were some examples where blizz tried to show a younger nigh elf or draenei by downscaling the regular model, and it just didn’t look right.
While I appreciate the idea and would like that to replace the mecha gnomes we have but still this isn’t Lord of the rings online as much as you want that wrong mmo but nontheles i still support the idea.
Tbh the female one looks like a generic deviantart/tumblr artist’s depiction of WoW gnome, I swear nobody likes to draw them the way they are in the game, similar to Nighborne, always looking like void elves and not the ugly wrinkly crackheads they are in the game
That’s just me ranting, though.
I have nothing against it, but I feel like they would need some extra quirk, not just being a plain old “shorter human”.
As for gnomes - they simply are supposed to be very small.
Remember back then, they actually were smaller than they are now, Blizz solved it by upscaling them, which resulted in the oversized mounts that didn’t really made sense, as in “why these midgets need those extra large mounts?”.
Anyway, that means their proportions will be a little different than what someone taller would look like.
That is perfectly normal. No one is gonna be hyped for every Allied Race introduced. There are people not hyped for Vulpera because “Muh furries”, and yet I don’t see people wanting them re-designed to look a lot like the Lobox from Ratchet&Clank.
Not every fantasy universe needs Halflings, y’know.
I doubt it.
Absolutely not.
Those look like half elf children, by the way.
That sounds a lot worse of an explanation than Void Elves.
Those look actually good, I’d reckon with polish they’d be super nice.
@Adamante and Aibury
I meant to link them as examples, ofc they would be reimagined in Wow’s cartoonish styles, people have different tastes true, but I think the game would be better off if the Alliance actually got something impressive and major, I can’t think of any Alliance race that would make me wanna switch, other than dreanei.
Damn I’m getting a bit weary of these “anything but mechagnomes” threads.
Every day another post that either recommends a completely illogical race as substitute (sethrakk) because “cool” or here we have inventing a brand new race that doesn’t actually exist in WoW.
Remember void elfs? Remember how people really didn’t get behind the “a whole new raaaaace, with brand new lore I never kneeeeeew”? Now imagine that, but without the “purty elf” aesthetics to salvage it.
Things would set on fire.
Let’s just accept mechagnomes are happening and be happy for those who want them. And if we don’t, let’s just look at the races we already got that we liked and those individuals didn’t and call it quits.
I’m pretty sure I’m not suggesting the removal, rather how would people have reacted if proper proportioned gnomes or we can just call them halflings were introduced instead of mechagnomes.
Mechagnomes like I said are cool, imo if blizzard fix diaper pants and make the hands/feet more human like and add the ability to choose which limbs are normal and which limbs are mecha, then mecha gnomes would’ve been much much more nice, but this isn’t a thread about discussing mechagnomes themselves, rather a certain alternative to them
Oh yes, everyone is going to like and dislike different things. Some people are just being more vocal about it.
There are people asking for even more re-color elves like San’lin and High-elves. They literally would be happy with 2 more allied races using the NE model and slapping on a new skin texture because that would be ‘awesome and original’?
I think people would like more anime styled races and more furries as its shown by reaction to vulpera. Because its trendy now. Offer something more real like KT and their big bones, people feel it doesnt work: Offer something funky, but ugly like gnome variants, people do not like it. Offer boobs like Blood and void elves and people run wild.
So what they must do is add things that look straight out of Black Desert Online and few furries in the mix. That would work.
To be fair, San’lyn are vampire blood elves, just like worgen are werewolf humans.
Thing’s don’t have to be original to be cool, races like Vyrkul, Ogres, Mok’nathal, fairies, Ancients, centaurs, broken and others aren’t original and rather repeated, but are really popular and liked.
