I started playing in Legion, but skipped Bfa completely. I didn’t play vanilla, but TBC looks tempting. What would you recommend me?
Okay… maybe its not bait
Then the answer is: yes
SL, and retail in general is way better than classic (and TBC will be), wich is a 15+ years old relic, and a whole different business altogether. Nice trip on the memory lane, but even those whit the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia tend to say, its a long chore and… basically what WoW was in 15 years ago
But those times are passed
For a new or returning player SL is better, especially if you started in Legion, the leveling, the skills, the overall gameplay is not radically different and its easy to catch up
But, of course this is just my two copper
It’s hard to recommend SL. BFA was pretty bad, well, SL managed to top that. It’s trash. Tons of broken things (in balance, in gameplay systems, etc), devs fix maybe a third of them very late and badly, not much content. Small zones (have you seen Pandaria? what we have now is maybe half that size). Two new features that should have made the expansion - the Maw and Torghast - are boring boredom which nobody at all would do for longer than a week if it wasn’t for legendaries / sockets. The 9.1 patch is like 3-4 months away, we used to be getting both 5.1 and 5.2 in the timeframe it takes them to do 9.1 now. I mean, it’s bad. Really bad.
If you are into seeing everything there is to see in WoW, sub, I guess, have a look at BFA and SL content. Then unsub.
No opinion on TBC, old re-runs are not my cup of tea.
Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend either of them.
However, if you’re determined to try one of them out, then you should tell us what you’re looking for in WoW, so that we might be able to more accurately recommend the right choice for you.
Neither .
Wow is grindy and it’s a hamster’s wheel .
tbc probably easier and more relaxing for new player, retail will always have more end game and better challenges if thats your thing, but with it comes the need to spend that much more time into learning everything you need accepting that you need to play a lot every season because unlike classic you cant come back after missing a full tier and have your old gear still be relevant
It costs you nothing to try, but remember - Vanilla, TBC, WoTLK - they were incredibly slow compared to modern WoW. If I have the time I might hop back into TBC, it was great.
SL. If you are used to retail wow it’s pretty hard to go back (atleast for me) no mog, mount tab, classes and races are pretty restricted…
Its the same as talking about recommending a good old movie to someone. Yes, you should recommend for them to go through that magic experience of seeing it first time but if they already did in the past then most probably not.
Shadowlands, because TBC graphics are going to be dated, and systems a leap back in time. Personally, I prefer TBC, but part of that is my nostalgia and the fact I’ve played WoW for all these 16 years. Someone new might not like the old game as much as I do.
honestly, it depends on what you like. they are vastly different games, and while SL has many QoL improvements, and some nice touches like a selection of mounts and transmogs, as a GAME, i think TBC is far superior.
it is however a 14 year old game, and this will show in multiple aspects. the fact that Blizz is cashing in on rereleasing games (this is the 3rd so far in Warcraft alone) is a bit meh in my opinion, but one of the main reasons why classic was so successful, and TBC will be too is because people remember WoW when it was better. TBC may be the pinicle of WoW and as such will get a lot of attention, but it is not for everyone, especially newer/younger players. while not as grindy as Vanilla/Classic, its core progression is no where near as convoluted as legion, BfA and SL.
its prob worth a try. then you decide if you stick with it or come back to SL. (or even take a break/quit WoW entirely!)
