Lead Game Designer?
I’d trust you to write the april fool’s patch notes, but only because I don’t think anyone could make it more boring than blizz.
If a “genuine desire” to make things better, good stress management and an absurdly large amount of self belief ever appear on the job description as required skills you’d be a great candidate.
If they ask for actual - ya’know - tangible skills I think you might fall a little short.
Which skills would be required for this position besides good game knowledge?
You tell me what you think would be up there. You’re the one that thinks you’ve got what it takes.
I don’t believe anything else is required.
I’d trust the biggest living nerd stereotype with poor body hygiene, 0 social skills and 0 experience in any job whatsoever to do well in this position as long as they’re knowledgeable about the game.
Again, if you disagree and you feel like a specific set of skills is required, feel free to share it with me. I’m always willing to listen to the feedback of my threads’ most loyal customers.
- Track-proven record of having designed previous games, preferably another AAA title
- Portfolio of examples of designing systems, stories, worlds and interactions
- History of having contributed on projects/discussions
- Examples of being able to break down a concept into systems
- Aptitude to converse properly with people, understanding that there’s different views and putting those views together into a coherent system.
- Understanding what brings fun to people and how to get them engaged
- Communication skills are a must as you will be working with all kinds of teams
- The ability to build a story, a world and the supporting concepts.
No, you PVP too much, therefore you would make the game worse.
Neat. I have all of these besides the actual job experience.
But then again, we’ve all been beginners at some point. You have to start somewhere and being a beginner is no guarantee of failure.
The community disagrees with you: Lead game designer Rompuche
Having worked on various games myself, and with various studios, I can tell you this much:
If you want to break into the industry at a major studio, you need to have past experience. Large studios will not hire people without any previous experience anymore. At best, aim for smaller studios that have the room and lack of pressure to perform on top level so you can actually build up the required experience.
You will have to show these. Just making a few posts on the forum is not going to be sufficient. People will want to see game titles you have worked on, and trust me, you’re going to have to prove that you worked on them, e.g be in the credits.
Because the gaming industry is a small world, and everyone knows everyone there, we don’t take kindly to imposters.
Replace ‘high quality’ with ‘a high number’ and you’d be right. I do believe you believe everything your write here is godlike and gets you off.
May I use you as a credible source for my reference check?
You might be the network I need to infiltrate the industry and make it to the top where I belong.
Do you also have the required skills to operate on management level as you want to be a Lead Game Designer?
I’ve been out of the gaming industry for a while now
And I cannot be source for you, as we’ve never worked together (I think), so I cannot vouch for you, as I don’t know you.
XD
All those creatives, technical experts, programmers etc would be thrilled to have someone lead them whose main career experience is posting on the interwebs.
Well played tho, im not sure if youre joking or serious and im normally quite good at sussing this out.
It’s a bit of both.
I’m obviously aware I lack the actual job experience they expect for this position but I’m dead serious when I say I could make the game much better in the long run, for PvP/PvE and casual/hardcore players alike.
It also goes without saying that, in a professional setting, I behave much more like a proper functioning adult than I do when I’m here with you, my real family, who love and accept me as I truly am.
Well if Slapper is applying to be Lead Dev I’m handing in my CV to become PM.
Prime Minister Soul…
yes… yes…
Do you have any sort of an education in game development? do you have understanding of coding process?
