WoW Addons impact on gameplay

Greetings fellers, I’ve started wow back in MoP but i only recently started playing seriously. I have plenty of hours invested in the game and I cant help but notice the impact certain Addons have on the core gameplay of WoW.,such as DBM and some with less of an impact like Raider-io and any Damage Meter addon.
DBM is a great addon on one hand because it announces abilities etc. when they are cast, which is useful if u cant read them while fighting, but when it starts telling you what to do and how to play i think this is where some limitations have to happen. Most of the players, due to those addons we cant develop “skills” for raids, they are important to have because WoW is designed around DBM to make Raids less trivial but on the other hand if someone doesn’t have them they either need to spend a lot of time in LFR which doesn’t even have any serious mechanics or don’t do Raids, nowadays most guilds if not all require Addons if peeps want to participate in Raids and i find it ridiculous… I know that by hiding certain API’s from the public will render other simpler addons useless, but when does Blizzard intend on addressing this issue? FFXIV has made its rules clear and they ban people that use that sort of addons, and i strongly believe that Blizzard should adopt similar policies and the difficulty of a boss should not be determined by an addon but based on context and what the developer team believes is suitable.
Raider-io… I have used this in the past but I have decided to uninstall it cause i see the toxicity that is created behind it. With the modern age, MMO’s don’t really have any social element to them, at all, one can be rude, repulsive, irresponsible towards any person and they will still have a place to play the next day. There is no social consequence to being a “Richard but the short version of the name”. No one commits to raid groups, most people jump from group to group because they don’t wanna do the raid and get loot, they want to just get loot, Raider-io just adds more to that whole problem of toxicity. Since any one can get boosted those with money basically have more chances of experiencing high tier content than the average player. I like investing time in the game, I like reading the the boss mechanics before hand from the Adventure guide etc. and I’m more than willing to ask for clarification if i don’t get something but " oh no, your Raider-io score is too low for M0 - M5" “OH NO i don’t see your Raider-io, i cant get you for SoTFO N”. I know what you’re gonna say “join a guild”. I am in a guild but when they Raid i may wanna do something else I want my time to be flexible, theoretically i should be able to form a group with Randoms and do the raid but that is almost never possible, no commitment no social consequence for leaving 13 people hanging etc. When i join a group i commit to it, I’m not gonna leave because i found a fuller one or whatever, if I see that after many tries( unlike most who leave after the second wipe) then yeah i say that I dont think this is going to work and i ask if i may be excused… This is more of a rant, i just wanted to get my thoughts out there because its been bugging me and i wanted to see other peoples opinions on this.Preformatted text

Well banning raider.io ain’t going to help you since Blizz baked it into the game, which was a good call on their part. Nobody wants to jump into higher keys with somebody that’s run it once before xD.

^^ This

Blizzard embraced Raider IO and it’s built in now

The addon just functions to give you more detailed information now.

wait, now raiderio is now integrated with wow ? what did you mean
edit: i just saw your link,i never noticed this before, back in 9.1 or whenever nathria mythic was the latest raid i was running m+,i guess i never opened the mythic keystone menu from gtoup finder

well raiderio isnt the only addon i mentioned

It seemed to the the one that you had the biggest issue with.

WoW is not FFXIV. It is WoW. They are not the same game. Play the one you enjoy the most.

Addons don’t ‘create toxicity’. Toxic people are toxic, and blaming their behaviour on an addon just excuses them.

I haven’t read your whole post because the wall of text was a struggle, but those are 2 things that stood out to me.

and how this played out ? with extreme exclusion of players - and super toxic behavoiours in game and 90 % of playerbase leaving game

indeed such a succes

thx god FF14 is out there for all the casual wow refugees.

The same as before. Now people dont have to use a third party website though. People that used Raider IO to hard exclude you if youre not 3.8k for a +2 would have done so even without it being integrated into the game. As they have done so before. This behavior is as old as this game itself.

Because of RIO being implemented into this game? Dont make a fool out yourself. There are several reasons why people left. But you are free to prove your, non existing, source supporting your claim that 90% left because of Blizzard IO.

And yet you are still here Lilith. Curious. Very curious.

Ah well, what else to expect from you other than absolute bull.

And without those you have no access to information to improve. Congratulation.

If you play correct theres nothing to flame on a DMG meter. And no, some random beeps going “herpaderp you need to do 250 billion dps at 226 ilvl herpaderp” dont count. And if you dont then sorry but you deserve to get informed about it. Unless you pay me 300k to carry your butt through the encounter you better carry your own weight.

People dont have to be total beeps about saying someones performance is meh but just hiding it isnt going to work either.

Absolute bull. DBM gets ignored after a certain amount of time anyway. The fight becomes second nature. There are some outliners but they exist exclusively on Mythic. And if youre a Mythic raider and you have an issue with addons (that received a nerf after HFC) then its the wrong difficulty for you to begin with. There are 3 others to chose from.

Also bull.

Lets take the current raid outside of mythic.

Guardian: No addons required.
Skolex: Same. Incredibly scripted. This includes melee swirlies.
Dausegne: Same.
Pantheon: Same.
Trashuvim: Same. Again.
Halondrus: Again. Same. Everything is visual. And even the Mythic version of this fight is now an absolute joke and more of a faceroll than even freaking Trashuvim.
Anduin: THIS is the ONLY boss in the raid where i will say that the ring mechanic (no addon required) has no place whatsoever on normal and on heroic it shouldnt aoe oneshot. Even a regular oneshot is stretching it massively.
Rygelon: No addons required.
Dreadlords: Hahahahaaha.
Jailer: Again the same. This includes bombs.

They did after HFC when they disabled the range radar inside raids in response to Archimonde Mythic being over the top with his mechanic and the community using the radar to deal with it. ERT also received a nerf.

Different game. Different designs. Go play it if you prefer it. I prefer WoW raids by a very large margain over anything FF Raids offer.

Which is an issue with Blizzards non existing moderation and punishments. And only that.

As old as Vanilla. Good luck getting rid of that if not even the pre cross realm time managed that where people had to deal with possible witchhunts on their respective realms.

They dont. Because they are boosted. They get discovered pretty much instantly and then promptly booted. And if they only have 1 clear they usually get declined anyhow.

Absolute bull. Unless youre playing alliance.

Again as old as this game. You think you kept your entire pug raid from start to finish? Dont be absurd. Also if its a DPS one couldnt care less. They get replaced in a heartbeat. Tanks and Healers are the real issue lets be honest here now shall we.

Yeah great and they saw it as well but cba wasting time on posting that as it wouldnt change anything. Unless you want to imply that if they say “no, youre not excused” that you would stay and suffer. In which case just lol. I tend to stick with groups as well but if i say that the entire group is just a fiesta then i will obviously leave.

If you would then you would have used the search machine.

RaiderIO as an addon has been in mainstream use since Legion, putting it in the game allowed the quality to be improved and actually made it more accessible. Being upset about it is kinda similar to being upset that Arena has a rated system.

I know the rating system can make it more difficult to get on the ladder, experienced it myself as someone who only dabbles in retail WoW these days, but M+ dungeons are difficult and require you to know what you’re doing, if you have no prior experience you’re absolutely not ready for them and absolutely need to work your way up, some considerable effort/investment.

If you want to make your way in the world as a pug player and not take part in a traditional guild (a lot of people play this way now) then you’re also going to have to accept that there are new hurdles to overcome.
