WoW Classic on Mac Catalina

Hi,

I’ve struggling with WoW classic on my 2019 Macbook Pro (Catalina). Played last time on this same device about 6 month ago. Since the latest update it panics…

When launching from BattleNet I get to the startup screen…connecting and then bang, total freeze with music playing. There’s not even a panic log…

Opened a ticket with support and tried everything they suggested, reinstalls / admin accounts / clearing all old data…
In the end as a final resort I tried installing Monterey on an external drive and now it starts without a panic. Reading on the US Mac forum there seems to be lots of crashes with Mac lately.

Anyone here that have seen this kind of issue with Catalina and managed to solve it?

Appreciate any help!

MacOS Catalina is unfortunately by now getting a little long in the tooth, so to speak. While it technically still meets the minimum requirements for WoW Classic we can only wholeheartedly recommend to run a more modern version of MacOS (11+).

As for the crashes themselves: hard to tell what they may be without any log data, but odds are they would be related to the driver- or video-environment of the Mac, seeing that nothing else really changed between the two OS installations. Monterey does provide a number of improvements over Catalina in that regard, and as time moves on and the OS gets developed further that gap in quality, stability and performance is most likely only going to grow wider.
