It really is worrying the lack of confidence they have, it definitely has me worried for the future of classic and for the potential of TBC/Wrath releases.
They are so focused on not having “dead servers” that they are going to cause them to die off by trying to squeeze hundreds of thousands of people into so little servers.
They have reported that layering will only be for “phase 1”, for a short time, then they plan to turn it off.
How are they going to turn off layering with the servers being so full?
It is worrying me that it will become a permanent feature, which comes with so many social and economic in-game issues.
Once people realise this might be permanent, that could potentially turn many people away and give Blizzard the chance to boast the whole “you think you do, but you don’t”. And try claim that Classic wasn’t wanted and wasn’t popular enough.
I personally feel there needs to ATLEAST be 2-3 more PvP english realms and 1 more PvE.
And even then, I feel that is only just covering the minimum, I imagine there will be a lot of layers per realm
Seeing 15k+ queues on the stress test, after a literal 2 minute window, and then again after they added 2 more realms over an hour later, they filled up almost as fast with similar queues, what do they think will happen on the 27th?
I know many many people who didn’t sub, and are waiting for either the name reserve or release day. Those people were only a very minor amount compared to what is to come. How do they not see this?
There will be zero point to the name reserve if they are going to “add more realms if necessary”.
The initial realms will remain cramped as people are trying to join/play with family, friends and guild members. Most will stick to their chosen initial server, as it will be hard to communicate or even convince their groups to move to one of the newly opened realms.
That comes with it’s own problems, they might not be able to get the character names that they reserved weeks before on the starting realms.
The new realms might not have the same activity and might have a quicker drop off of people who just want to “try” classic and don’t plan to stay, meaning they will choose the most convenient/easy to access/low queue realms (the newly opened ones).
As I mentioned before too, anyone moving to these newly opened realms might not be able to convince everyone they want to play with to move with them, causing a split and maybe even eventually quit because they didn’t get to enjoy the game how they wanted/planned to.
Yes as quite a few others have said about the realm names too, they aren’t too appealing and a bit lengthy. But that is small potatoes compared to the amount of realms needed for release.
Please, Please, consider adding more today/tomorrow.
I’m so worried they are going to mess this launch up for so many returning players who truly want this to go well for many reasons.
Sorry for the wall of text. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read my thoughts on this.
