Wow Datafolder

So, I got an alert from windows today that my C drive was amost full. Using Treesize Free, I isolated that the BIGGEST directory on my C: was C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data at 302GB.

This doesn’t seem right, I’m guessing that the patcher never deletes the old patch files once the client’s been patched.

Would I be OK to delete that entire directory, then run scan and repair, to redownload any missing files that are actually needed, bringing that directory down to a more manageable size?

Or should I just relocate that entire folder to my 4TB SSD?

Edit to add:
I deleted the data directory, ran a scan and repair, and while it took quite a while, it reduced the size from 300GB to just over 150GB.

Do better with your cleanup stuff, Blizzard. Diskspace is cheap, but not free, so us users shouldn’t have to carry all your old no-longer used files around.

Thank you so much for this post. I ran into the same problem. My game files were over 400 gb (!!) for literally no reason whatsoever. Diskspace is cheap, as you say, but clearly so is Blizz when it comes to clean development practices.

I scrapped the data folder, scanned and repaired, and I was down to 130 GB.

Why do I have to deal with this, Blizz? And why has no one responded to this thread lol
