WoW Freezing When Screen Sharing on Discord

Hi everyone,

Me and some other people are having an issue with World of Warcraft - game is randomly freezing for 5-10s when screen sharing on Discord.

There have been multiple posts on this, on blizzard forums and reddit, reporting the exact same issue, and I have yet to find a definitive solution for the problem (swapping from DirectX12 to 11 seemed to fix it, but that’s not really a fix, and more like a band-aid, because there’s a performance loss with that). I will link these posts at the end of this.

Here’s my setup and what I’ve tried so far:

My System Setup:

• GPU: RTX 4080super
• CPU: Ryzen 7800X3D
• Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B650-A
• RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 6000MHz 64GB 2x32GB CL30
• SSD: WD BLACK SN770
• Power Supply: MSI MPG A850G PCIE5 850W 80 Plus Gold Full Modular
• Monitors:
  • Primary: 2K (165Hz)
  • Secondary: 2K (165Hz)
• Display Mode: Fullscreen Windowed

Advanced Graphics Settings

I have changed alot of settings tried to address the issue, but nothing fixed the problem (Except DX12 to 11 as I’ve said before).

What I’ve Tried:

1. Disabled Discord Hardware Acceleration — Didn’t help.
2. Disabled Discord Overlay — Didn’t help.
3. Checked for conflicting software or background applications — Nothing stood out.

The game works perfectly fine when not streaming on Discord, but the random freezing issue happens only during screen sharing. I’ve also ensured all drivers and updates for both Discord and my GPU are up to date.

This has been happening ever since I bought this PC (half an year ago), so it has been occuring for the whole War Within expansion. My old PC had a nvidia GTX1060 and an intel i8700k, and I never had this issue, while running same apps).

Hello, this is a follow up on the now closed US post about both classic and retail wow freezing for a good few seconds at random while streaming on discord (basic stream). Does anyone know what could be causing this or have an actual fix for this? Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
