Okay so for years my one wonder has been when will WoW truly revamp to modern technology.
I mean, we are in the age we have VR headsets now. And games with graphics that are almost indistinguishable from reality.
When WoW was first released it was completely immersive. A whole world of elves and dwarves etc that you could really fall into your imagination with.
The graphics were poor so we played it using our imagination subconsciously. Like we done with games like Pokemon.
But now we have the technology to remakes this world with elves and dragons etc that have uncanny realness. Allowing for our imagination to work less and our eyes to enjoy more.
In a age where imagination has dwindled from the use of technology; it seems that this is the necessary next step.
Doings raids and dungeons and world quests in realistic VR first person.
WoW was the first truly successful MMORPG.
Recreating it this way would entice a new generation of fans and glory.
As the story of WoW would remain the same.
A persons progress in the original WoW would have no impact on the new WoW.
A fresh beginning with the same story.
But rendered with landscapes that feel real and weather that changes with the seasons.
Snow that falls and melts in the players hand.
NPC’s built with A.I rather than pre-set voice lines and actions.
We even have technology like Gamescent to create the smells in-game.
Will the new frontier of WoW ever see its day?
Or has blizzard become a tired greedy company that cares less about innovation and run by CEO’s who wish only to play it safe with their cash cow company while living in the current level of luxury it provides.
People love games because it gives them an escape from reality.
Give them a more immersive game in this generation of much less imagination and heart - the people will fall in love with it.
So, in your opinion, WoW has to either be so bleeding edge advanced that 90%+ of the current players flat out can´t afford the hardware to run it, or failing that Blizzard is just tired and greedy?
Sorry, but if thoise are the only 2 options, there is no real point in this discussion. WoWs chosen “cartoonish” art style is already by definition a categorical disqualifier for photorealistic graphics that will inevitably age horribly just like they do in every other game. And this play into the fact that part of the mass appeal of WoW is that you specifically don´t need a 5k gaming rig to run it smoothly.
I literally work in game development, and I for my part would absolutely not be willing to shell out the close to 5 figure sum your changes and their new hardware requirements would inevitably require me to invest to keep playing WoW (at current stage of technology and pricing). For many players, esp those in lower income regions, you might as well be flipping them the bird and shooting their dog, because by the time they can afford the necessary hardware Blizzard will have bankrupted itself by telling 90%+ of their players to go pound sand for 10 years…
Just because a technology exists does not automatically mean it has to be implemented at all costs, nor that it will be the best thing since sliced bread just because it was implemented. For example, actual AI NPCs, esp the amount that WoW has at any given time in your immediate vicinity, would tank your superturbohighend gaming rig so fast you´d be begging to play warcraft 3 again within 10 minutes.

I have no interest in VR. I wasn’t even aware it was getting much traction. It’s a niche interest in gaming on the whole. Let alone WoW.

I bought the VR2 for my PS5 the day it was released, and it’s been gathering dust after that day…
I don’t like VR that involves a headset.

I don’t get on with VR or the thing they tried in cinemas for a while with the 3D viewing.
But each to their own ofc. I’m sure some love that stuff. I just don’t think it appeals on mass.
Lots of people are getting motion sickness, headaches etc. from VR, if it’s optional ok, but VR Only would be horrible for me.

yeah we dont need that here .people already break their keyboards and mouse in frustration .now you want them to break a leg or hand in vr mode ?

Same I can’t even stomach dragon riding and dislike the goblin vehicle in Undermine in the current game. VR would be my worst nightmare. Motion sickness overload.

Mate…I think you overestimate the popularity of VR wildly. Also, VR seems to have quite a niche usage. A game like WoW in VR? Look at Metaverse, it’s not it…even though literally Billions were spent on it.
Of course a game like WoW will primarily focus on being profitable. ActivisionBlizzard/Microsoft is not a charity.

VR is cool, but niche.
I would totally try it if wow got it for some silly vr shenanigans.
On a more realistic technological note though I am surprised they still haven’t added official full gamepad support and made a console port. They’ve modified the game for it little by little each expansion so it seems we’re getting there but just at a snails pace.
There was a moment … don’t know exactly when anymore … that WoW supported 3d monitors. I had a monitor with active glasses, that made it look as if my monitor was a window into the “real azeroth”. It was nice for a while but not popular and support ended.
I must admit that back then it required a lot of power too, and if you had 60fps normal, you had 30fps netto per eye so you saw the refresh clearly. It was not … optimal …
High “cool” factor but not something to game for hours in.
I never tried VR sadly but I assume its similar in problems/issues.

I Got problems with VR my head is spinning and after some time have problem with migreans of chronicle headache so bit no no for me for health reason althrough i would love to see increaseing graphich like they do with AI in some videos
Nope. Keep wow as it is.
You have other games if you want to VR or spoil yourself with shiny graphics.
That sounds like a migraine waiting to happen… I’d rather they focus on other things.

yes that will definitely solve the things like it has in customer service department /sarcasm
If it had photorealistic graphics it wouldn’t be wow.

VR and Photorealistic graphics? No thanks. Cant speak for anyone else, but i play this game BECAUSE of how it looks, not in spite of it. I love the visual style of this game, and the graphics are more than adaquate. I’d take stylized over realistic any day.
VR in WoW is just nonsense, how would that even work, its not even a first person view game. Imagine bladestorming in VR
