Wow graphics crashing

Hello, been having this problem for a while, just in wow (but i dont play any other games that require somewhat decent pc).
So sometimes my screen flickers for a sec and freezes. From then there are like 3-4 possibilities:

  1. screen stays frozen and I have to end task wow and restart pc (cuz if I try to login without pc restart, I am at like 10fps instead of usual 60+)
  2. screen unfreezes and everything is fine
  3. happened just like twice but goes black then unfreezes but i have just like 10fps

usually its 1st. I tried reinstalling drivers. Atm I have the latest one. Tried reducing my grapgics from 5 to 1 (with some exceptions required for raiding). Nothing working. And sadly it is happening in the middle of the raid like 1-2 times per raid.

I am thinking it might be graphics card issue but I have no idea how to check it. Perhaps I could afford new cheap graphics card but worried if I buy new one and it still happening…then i wasted money :frowning:
any clue what the problem is?

somehow posted with wrong char. it is not classic problem. it is retail issue happening on my dh (probably on all chars but I play just dh pretty much)

Which operating system?
Which video card?
Which video driver?
Is WoW running in DirectX11 or DirectX12 mode?

windows 8.1
amd radeon ™ R7 370 Series
driver version: 22.19.171.1024 driver date: 2017-07-04 (old one but that is the newest for that video card)
directx11

probably should have mentioned this info before but didnt think it would affect the answer because my guess it is malfunctioning video card (just want to be reaaaaly sure before investing any money into new one)

Well, you won’t ever get a new video driver unless you move to Windows 10. Everyone has ditched Windows 8 including MS, AMD and probably Blizz too.

Your best bet is to change OS before the video card because you’ll have to move on eventually and maybe the card itself is actually fine.

In the meantime you could try setting WoW to DX11 Legacy mode.

I have the same issue. Only today it happens with almost every load screen. Or a change of zone/dungeon.

I’m using an iMac (late 2013) with an Intel core I7, 32GB memory and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M (4GB), with macOS 10.14.6

After I force quit the game works fine.

Other games don’t have this issue (EVE Online, Homeworld 2). And editing photos or movies doesn’t crash the application either.

In the gx.log file I noticed the "Command Buffer Error(9): Error Domain=MTLCommandBufferErrorDomain Code=9 “Invalid Resource (IOAF code 9)” UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Invalid Resource (IOAF code 9)}
" error. But I have no idea if that is related to my issues.

Hey all,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having these troubles. The Graphics Drivers stalling or crashing can be caused by several different things, and I would like to recommend that you try completing all suggestions, including the Advanced Troubleshooting section of out World of Warcraft Lockups and Crash Errors guide.

Hello, its me again.
So I got win10 instead of win 8.1, complete reinstalled everything (new gpu drivers too, redownloaded wow, addons) but problem is still there. It is a bit different but pretty much there. Had just 1 raid though. But it was short raid (1.5h) and I had complete screen freeze 3 times in that period. What was different that this time it unlagged after like 10sec and I continue (if I wasnt dead). In previous situations unfreezing was pretty rare.
Also at the end of the short raid my graphics kinda went somewhat bananas. Could still play, wasnt lagging but it was looking weirdly to say the least (cant give a link here it seems. Graphics were looking like some lines were mising, like people names on raid frames or details were missing letters, even character models were looking weird)

another info that might be useful: I am monitoring gpu and cpu temps/load and nothing seems out of proportion.

So…anyone got a clue from these descriptions what exactly could be an issue?
