WoW in 4K question

So I’m probably getting a new laptop and I’d imagine it’ll be able to run WoW at 4K (i7, lots of ram, RTX 2060 or so). So I’m thinking about getting a 4K monitor for it too.

Is it worth it? The monitor that is. I only play WoW on my PC, everything else goes to my Xbox anyway.

Depends on monitor size I guess. But imo 4k is just a marketing trick - I honestly can’t see a difference between a 4k and 1080p.

You can quest in Barrens at 4k with laptop cpu and 2060, good luck in raids or even world bosses.

I play at 4K and I think it looks awesome.

It certainly looks much better than 1080p, especially as WoW contains a ton of text.

i think its better to get a 1080p screen with higher refresh rate, like 144 hz. You won’t be able to get that many FPS in current content even on $10k rig tho, but even 90-100 fps will be a noticeable improvement over 60.

I’d go for a 1440p screen 120hz, personally.

I think 4k for WoW is a bit much, especially if it’s your only game.

Seconding what Athulua says though, i’d go for more hz over resolution.

And it’s a laptop, which means slower CPU’s, weaker GPU’s, and more over heating.
I doubt it would be a super smooth & enjoyable experience inside raids / large scale PVP.
For questing it would be fine though.

Those specs are garbage, I can’t run WoW 144 fps on a 2k monitor with i9-9900k and 2080 ti ,32gb 3200mhz ram

I also have the Asus Zephurys laptop too, with Ryzen 7 4800 + 2060 and it can’t get to 144 fps with a full HD monitor, so yeah. Forget about WoW in 4k unless you want the 30 fps experience and you get cancer in your eyes.

I dont see the OP saying anywhere that he wanted 144fps while running the game, grats on your setup I guess, its just a shame you seem to be clueless about how to set it up in regards to performance.

Ultrawide may be more immersive  3440x1440.

Running a game 4k 60fps/hz is just as demanding as running a game 144fps/hz 2k.

But I quess, you just don’t know anything.

It’s actually more demanding, because you process 4x more pixels, so you’re getting 1/4 of the fps.

That is a bit of an overshot. I’m playing in 4k with an 1060 TI without any problem.

The important part anyways is the CPU as WoW is a CPU heavy game and nop GPU.

Thx for the reply. I’m getting a 10th gen i7 so I’m covered in that regard. The graphics card at 2060 I mean, why not. I’ve got a 1650 on my current laptop, so just getting an upgrade really.

Yes, this only proves my point.

But I’d still argue it’s just as demanding to get 144fps on a 144hz 2k monitor as is to get 60fps on a 60hz 4k monitor.
