Wow installation is damaged and I can't update/repair it

I’ve been having problems with the game constantly “currently downloading game (important) game data” for weeks now. I had enough of the constant FPS tanking this caused so I tried to run the repair tool to see if that’d fix anything…

…and now it’s broken completely.

I can’t run the .exe, it says the install is damaged and I need to scan/repair it in the battle.net app. I tried that about 10 times now, and it keeps saying: Whoops! looks like something broke! Give it another shot!

And before you send me to one of your pre-written lists with “solutions”, no, I’ve tried them. I have tried every solution I could find on this issue and they didn’t work.

I am on a metered connection so reinstalling will be an absolute last ditch effort to get it to work.

But these aren’t the Diablo 3 forums…

Yes, I meant in addition to this issue, removed the paragraph to prevent further confusion.

Is it possible you have a corrupted sector on your hard drive, that is preventing the update/repair from completing?

Tried moving the game to a different drive and that was fruitless, so no.

Does it give you an error code?

Error: BLZBNTAGT00000BB8

While not necessarily it could be that your connection is what’s having problems with running a repair.

You mentioned metered connection. If it’s something like a mobile hotspot and you’re having reception issues you might want to find some better internet connection even if only temporarily.

If it’s not that then before reinstalling the game you might want to try and reinstall the blizzard app. After you reinstall have it locate the game and maybe then try a repair.

Update: Instead of giving me an error code, it now just starts scanning again after completing the first scan. Still no actual progress.

@Chronormi I only have access to a 4G router (wireless) and my mobile hotspot, I tried both and that didn’t make a difference. (they both work on different providers)

Mine is doing it too. Loading into zones and dungeons I am getting the green spiral “downloading game content” even though I have the entire game downloaded. It did this last week and they asked for information and fixed the issue I think. but now it seems to be back

If it was me, I would ask around for to borrow a reliable (cable) connection and reinstall everything clean. I live where almost everyone have cable so an easy solution for me, maybe not for you but want to try and help.

Hey there,

So for the continuous background download, this is indeed a known issue and being worked on. Unfortunately the only workaround right now would involve a full reinstall, so understandably not a great solution for every situation. More info about that here:

@ Medeer As for not being able to complete the repair, and the specific error mentioned, more info and troubleshooting steps can be found here:

I see you mentioned you’ve tried all the solutions you could find already, so if that is the case it’s likely to come down to an issue with the cellular connection you’re using and as others have suggested already the next step would be to give it a try on a regular broadband connection if possible.

Thanks for your answer @Tyrskorn, I don’t own any other connections but I’ll try to work something out. If all else fails I guess I’ll consider a reinstall.
