Wow grinding systems introduced in Legion are a way to increase time played per character per player and show high MAU on quarterly reports for blizzard suits. Anyone who worships legion is blinded by the flashy graphics and mediocre story that was an improvement over AU Draenor
Most similar to what you look for are MOBAs. There’s less spells but skill cap is way higher though.
wow will never be a game that values skill only. Gearing and progression was always fundamental for the genre.
seems to me you are playing wrong genre
lobby based games are that way →
mmorpgs are all about grind - if you dont enjoy grinding you dont enjoy mmorpgs.
o why grind it in first place ? if you dont enjoy it.
You have to pay someone some sort of currency, whether it be ingame or real life to really enjoy this game now. If you are in the majority. Merely an opinion not an outright fact. I think that I am quite close to the truth here though.
Because it is their strategy with Mounthy Active Users (MAU) increasement, that is taken from mobile market and doesn’t work nor in MMO, neither in competitive PvP and just decreases MAU instead.
They wouldn’t get rid of gear progression in PvP, thus is MMO after all and skill isn’t only desiding factor here, but they should had made PvP gear progression reasonable and for PvP only.
As people have suggested before. The game needs to go back to the basics. No one asked for all these different systems implemented. I want stuff like CMs and Mage Tower back. Stuff that doesn’t give or boost gear, but rewards cool cosmetics.
I don’t play the fracken game to spend 90% of my time doing crap like Torghast. They removed gem sockets from gear because they didn’t want to overcomplicate crap, then they implement it via rep and stuff. To be honest, I still don’t 100% know how to put gem sockets on gear. Pathetic.
Be cause the OP is specifically talking about PvP, which is competitive eating, by your analogy. One competitor doesn’t decide they want a small bowl of rice pudding while the other has to knock back a 6 course banquet in the same time.
As to whether there is too much grind in WoW, yes, there is. Are conduits annoying? Yes. Is it annoying that Soul Cinders only come from Torghast and not from ‘any’ play? Yes. Is it annoying that legendary recipes drop from raid and world bosses? Yes. That is a lot of annoyances that didn’t need to be there. All these things could come from doing content rather than grinds.
But not being able to log in and just PvP isn’t really a symptom of those things. All-rounder players have always had a competitive advantage in PvP.
If not legendaries and conduits, people who just want to spam arenas would be moaning that mythic raid gear is too strong. There is always something to complain about for the PvP purist, and the reason for that is that WoW is not a game about PvP.
That said, could PvP be isolated off into it’s own little corner? Probably. All PvE gear effects could be disabled in instanced PvP. But I think we’d find a lot less people were getting involved and the new complaint would be how long it takes to join a match.
Well we only got a literal corner in oribos where noone is bothered by us
This is one of the main reasons I don’t feel like logging in, I had to travel before 9.1 because got a new job, turned out I am still there and 9.1 released and had no PC.
when I got my new PC after few months…
I log in and see all these chores just to start playing, I just gave up. waiting for 10.0 release don’t wanna bothor farming all these systems just to be completly useless when 10.0 launches.
We’ve been saying stop with these systems and they add even more on top of what we already had. I don’t really understand at all.
tbh game would be much healthier if pvp was never implemented in first place. it tok them 15 years to separate pvp and pve tunings . and they cannot do even that properly

if pvp was never implemented in first place
what am i supposed to do then i dont play pve

Gearing and progression was always fundamental for the genre
i dont mind to put in effort, but the rng. i think its sad that its not up to you if u get good or not, but the rng of the game. but then again, perhaps ppl dont care about having bad gear etc, maybe thats a kind of fun i dont yet understand. :s

Or just… not do small-team arenas. WoW classes are hard to balance for 2s and 3s, so don’t implement a game mode that pressures that weak spot

what am i supposed to do then i dont play pve
Then you’re playing the wrong game, tbqh. WoW is 95% PvE. Look at the time invested in world zones and quests, in dungeons, and raid encounters, then put it against a few tiny arenas and the same battlegrounds we’ve had since the beginning.
Sorry to say, but this is not a game for PvP players. Never really was, though there have been times when they could play their 5% with less external pressure than there is now.

Then you’re playing the wrong game, tbqh
what should i play then
The perfect solution would be partially isolating PvP and PvE.
Like you have basic skills and talents, but after level 20 you should be visiting special PvP or PvE trainers to learn different skills and talents that are only available in PvP or PvE. Attempt was made with PvP only talents, but in my opinion class kits were overburdened with unnessesary skills making balancing harder.

what should i play then
Man, don’t listen to these trolls.
Don’t let them tell you what to do.
These guys don’t even have a single PvP Feats of strength and probably getting rekt in arenas and BGs, no wonder why they hate PvP.

The perfect solution would be partially isolating PvP and PvE.
they could easily seperate , they wanted to do that in WoD when many played Arena
arena server where character start lvl 90 with apprentice armor that can only play pvp
character slots were supposed to cost 10€ or something

Man, don’t listen to these trolls.
to late i already uninstalled
