How can it be that I need to grind 90% of my time in this game to actually enjoy 10% of it?
I just want to start the game and spam arenas… i do not wanna grind torghast to craft legendaries or farm rep to get my conduits at the same level as the guy who can play the game 24/7 so that he does not have an unfair advantage…
Blizzard tries to bind people to their game with the fear that they will fall too far behind…
is it just me who thinks so?
I miss the times when I could start this game and just had fun.
I suggest you have a look at overwatch, it’s much better with regards to grinding, because all of the grinding you do is to get cosmetics and the way that you grind is by playing games, so you can concentrate on playing and enjoying each game rather than doing “work” so that you can get the things you want.
What one person describes as work can be fun to another. And vice versa.
When shadowlands first came out torghast was pretty good the first few weeks, but soon become a chore, then with the new patch, they changed it so that it was more fun. So I think that really what they should do, is instead of changing it when the patch comes out, it changes as you progress, that way you can move at your own pace without hitting a wall.
Who cares if you fall behind though, you’ll be surprised how little you actually get from maxing everything out. You don’t need a rank 6 lego to do 15 keys and heroic raid, it’s a bit of extra stats that amounts to nothing. You don’t need Korthia campaign fully done. WoWs what you make of it, if you don’t like the grinds don’t do them. You’ll be a whole whopping 5% worse off if that, but 99% of players can do 5% more damage/heals just playing better.
No you’re pretty much right. The game is built on fear of missing out, creating gameplay loops we have to complete in order to keep our characters on the power curve. The idea is that by interacting with these systems we will keep logging in, generating engagement and MAU metrics which please the almighty shareholders.
Problem is they’ve pushed this philosophy to an absurd extreme where the underlying purpose of their systems has become apparent. The trick with MMOs is to disguise the grind in such a way that you WANT to do it. What they’ve done is naked cynical and exploitative. For many people, the answer is to disengage and do something else.
This is why the critical moment for the future of World of Warcraft will be the 10.0 features trailer. If there is anything in that that looks like yet another mandatory grindy system, then you know the expansion is already dead in the water. They need to do a hard reset on these systems and return to a time where power comes from gear and gear comes from dungeons, raids and pvp.
its a design ,this farms they have to keep you addicted and in fear of always falling behind. the game design is just awful. arena and the fun things arent even so fun in this expansion
MMO/MMORPGs are supposed to be grindy and take a great deal of time and investment, but the issue is how a game disguises those grinds. If it is disguised as fun, peeople have no problem with it or if there is a great deal of content that makes you want to log in and continue to advance, you also would not have any issues with a grind.
Legion is an expansion that despite a grind, there was so much to do in terms of fun and content that the grind was disguised and people had fun. With SL there is no disguising the grind and there is no actual fun.
i hope it comes a mmo soon without any grind, or very little. i seriously love the gameplay, alot of spells and ability, movement. how ever i only like the challenge part of wow, when i feel like every second matters. so things like farming old raids or world quest can be abit dull for me, im saying not this to mock ppl who enjoy more relaxed stuff. its just that it is abit to much of the mundane boring content for my taste.
If you think this was a grind (and it is not great at all) then man, some of you guys would have loved the days of old school MMOs. Nothing finer than spending 2 hours dying in EQ losing the best part of a level that took me over 2 hours to earn.
