Wow is already on free to play quality level

Hello fellow humans! Hope you’re having a good day! :3

I’ll get right to the point with this one.

I quit the game shortly after bfa came out and returned only recently. The one thing that immediately stood out to me was how little content had come out over the span of two years. No, really.
I was absolutely bewildered by how little the game had changed since I quit. I mean, there’s some new raids and all that jazz, but all we really got was more systems to grind and more bars to fill up.

Despite that, we still pay the same montly subscription fee. You know what would be nice? If the money that blizzard gets from us was actually used to improve their products rather than fill up the pockets of their billionaire executives.

People on the forums often ask for this or that from the wow team. Update the graphics, bring the textures up to date, fix the engine, more raids more battlegrounds, more of everything really. A common reply I often see is something along the lines of “well, it’s too expensive” or “they can either do this or that”. Well, to those people I just have to ask: do you have any idea how much money blizzard has at their disposal?

To all the naysayers, why would you not want all that accumulated money to be invested in opening new studios, hiring new talent, creating new jobs and circulating all this wealth back into the economy rather than having it fill the pockets of a privileged few that just leech off of the hard work of others?

With the current state economy having suffering from these recent developments, I almost feel uncomfortable spending money on blizzard products knowing where it’s ending up. Not only that, but I feel bad for anyone who paid their subscriptions for those two years that I was away from the game and only got this little content in return.

Heck, there are free to play games that offer more content that wow, which not only asks for an upfront expansion price tag, not only asks for subs, but also sells gold, levels and cosmetics in an in-game cash shop.

Well, I went on a rant there but the bottom line is that our money, for the most part, isn’t used to improve the game or any other blizzard game and what we get in return in hardly worth it.

Thought? And please try to keep it civil and to the point. I don’t think I deserve cancer for this opinion. Thanks.

Listening to players just makes the game worse, 80% of the time I’m glad they don’t do it.

If it was up to me I would’ve kept the game in 8.1 forever with essences and corruptions.

I don’t care about putting money into anyone’s pocket except mine.

It’s not leeching off the hard work of others it’s being smarter than them

Oh! I forgot to ask this in the opening post, but has anyone here played wow for all or most months of the last two years? Share your opinion if you have! Do you feel like your sub was worth it?

PS Lxser I have no idea what you’re talking about. I don’t think we’re on the same page or even same book at all.

I’ve played BfA the entire time with no breaks. Only time I felt that there was no content to do was during 8.1 (but Lxser clearly had a different experience!) due to many guildies leaving so I couldn’t participate in group content like m+ or raids without pugging. I levelled characters and did Legion content during that time.

Since 8.2 and especially in 8.3, I feel that there is an awful lot to do! Whether it’s all things you want to do though is a different story… There are dailies, emissaries, bi-weekly and weekly assaults, visions, m+, raids, PvP (both instanced and now 3 weekly call to arms quests). I think many just feel there is “no content” because they don’t enjoy that many of these activities feel like mandatory chores and aren’t fun to do.

I’ve not unsubbed throughout Legion or BfA, most expansions before that I’ve taken a break at some point.

I prefer the subscription model over any free to play game. You can technically play for free if you grind gold and buy tokens for your game time but it is essentially just passing on the sub cost to the person buying the gold.

I feel they are listening to the playerbase at the moment with feedback. However they can never please everyone all of the time. There are always going to be aspects of the game you don’t enjoy. It’s just a case of balance, is there enough that does appeal to you or keep you interested. If the answer is no, take a break or just play a different game.

@Ceranity you articulated how I feel about this new content. It really does feel like chores; not so much mandatory but it feels that way since that was basically all we got.

I personally still have lots of quest storylines to play and raids to explore, but I honestly couldn’t imagine myself having played through the entirety of this expansion for free, let alone pay for it.

Started a month before pre patch of BFA. I spent this month levelling this character.

In short. Yes i do think my sub was worth it. I’ve played consistently for the two years and have progressed from being a complete, uneducated newbie to someone who is progressing well (curve and +10 m+ achieve in each patch, 8.3 ive been pushing to +20 keys).

Im only just getting to the point where i dont want to log in because i dont have much to do. I have the gear i can get from the content i do, socketed, corrupted etc. I only really log to push the few remaining keys i have to get all +20 in time. I cant remember there being any other point in this expansion where i havent wanted to log in, sure i got frustrated with things (the rep grind, corruption grind etc) but im only just feeling like ‘i dont wanna log in atm’. But im putting thta down to ‘end of expansion’ feelings

Care to name a few?

I have played without a break since vanilla. I pay a sub but never buy from the Blizz store. I always find things to do and only hear moans about game when I come on the forum. The game is my hobby I enjoy it and so I think it is good value.

You say there isn’t enough content and yet you haven’t played most of the content available (unless this is a second account or something) so what exactly are you complaining about? There’s so much more you could do.

well, one of the things i hate mostly about wow is, its the most hardware demanding game ever.I hope it would be more optimized for for raiding and crowded bg’s. in future.I dont have the luxury to renew my pc every year :d

There is clearly optimization problem in wow.I know its too much depth and graphics, but i think it should be more graphic card focused instead of a good cpu. Or whichever is stronger.A good cpu is nearly triple times more expensive than an average gpu.

Get rid of fancy random spell effects; or make them like buffs. The ridiculous amount of graphic boom is stressing the cpu’s (obviously) in crowded places. This make wow more demanding in cpu power.

Recently i started leveling in classic, god, im playing on ultra ! the environment is so good in ultra level - in classic, i can say its on par with retail.

Currently i saw the recommended pc specs of shadowlands ; my jaw dropped.
I have a ryzen 3 1300x and i have huge suspicions if my pc can handle the new expansion. and gtx1080 recommended? holy cow ,no way i can afford that card.(that card doesnt exist on retail sellers even if i stress my budget to buy it lol, coronavirus affected sellers as well)

I know blizzard art team is working like elven crafter level, but for god’s sake, not everyone is so priviledged to get so high end pc’s . Make wow more optimized.

i think there should be an option to make you play at 1080p 60+ fps no matter your pc is.Economy is tough these times.

My second concern is about the Feral druid’s situation. It require massive UN-PRUNING and reintroducing of old spells. Devolopers can inspect forums to get ideas for future, its full of creative ideas.

My 3rd issue is, please dont remove caravan brutasaur, or put into store for 1 year sub reward Thanks.

Until a short while ago, I played on max setting on a 2012 Lenovo workstation

it doesn’t exist because it’s a 4 year old card and isn’t produced naymore. Nvidia will soon release the 7nm cards and then you’ll be able to get a RTX2xxx for extremely cheap which will perform on par or outperform the card you’ve mentioned.

Just set your graphics to lowest

maybe if you druids would spend more time demanding the removal of guardian rather than invading unrelated threads, your feral spec might actually get the other half of the spec back…

Bruh, literally in the previous paragraph you dismiss all the content BFA got as “more bars to grind”. Meanwhile BFA had 4 huge raids, none of which were bad, one small one, which was meh, 2 great new questing zones, with Mechagon closing in on becoming my favorite WoW zone, both in terms of design, progression, general gameplay, everything. We also got one megadungeon, which got split into two for m+

Only 8.3 was disappointing in terms of content, and that’s because Blizz shifted everyone to work on Shadowlands.

You don’t get to dismiss all the content the game got, and then want more content. That’s not how anything works. Why would Blizz listen to you? They’ll give you more content so you can go again “yeah, we got some raids, some zones blah blah blah I don’t care about those, but give us more raids and content”. This is basically this thread.

Not to mention that we got like 5 fully rendered cinematics, where each expansion usually gets only one.

I LOVE WoW’s graphics. It’s easily the best looking MMO out there. I know there’s games like Black Desert Online, which only looks good in screenshots, but personally I’m not a fan of realistic graphics in MMOs. WoW’s cartoon style is one of its greatest assets.

I also hate Blizzard’s insistence on systems. They weren’t needed prior to WoD, they shouldn’t be needed now. The one aspect where BFA didn’t really suffer, until 8.3 that is, was the amount of content. The amount of content is fine.

I have played so many f2p MMOs, you have no idea. It’s so refreshing to actually just pay a sub and be done with the game’s monetization. I can… either pay for WoW, or spend 30 euro on… a costume in BDO, which deliberately makes your endgame gear look like absolute trash so you want to buy costumes. Let’s not mention their pay2win power progression, which exists in every single f2p MMO.

What you’re saying is that there isn’t enough content that you want to do. That’s your decision and nothing to do with actual content, there’s plenty to do.

As for the overall quality of the game, that’s subjective in most cases and in the cases where it isn’t then WoW is still a high quality game when compare to most F2P titles.

If you think it isn’t worth the sub price then go elsewhere.

Sure, I guess. Warframe, Dauntless Wakfu, to name a few. They’re all free to play and have released more content than wow in both scope and magnitude.

Actually, I already said that I have tons of content to do, personally.

Yes, my subscription is definitly worthy, specially now that is payed until the end of 2025 with gold!

Oh really? Could you elaborate more on that with some good examples?

I have been playing for a really long time and I still have not found an instance where the players seemed to say " thank goodness they did not listened to us"

As a raider, I never asked for those chores, neither I asked for corruptions.

Still, players are asking for better baseline gameplay, which is partially being adressed in SL. Most of players want ap grind out, let’s see how SL turns out.
