Over the last few days my pc has started randomly rebooting, but only while I am playing wow.
No BSOD, no nothing just a reboot.
When I go to the System Event viewer I am consistently getting the same message
”The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {2593F8B9-4EAF-457C=B68A-50F6B8EA6B54}
and APPID {15C20B67-12E7-4BB6-92BB-7AFF07997402}
to the user Jxxxx-PCxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the appication container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
Those errors are almost certainly not related to WoW or shutdowns.
Look for Event ID 41 and event ID 6008. If one of them exists likely cause is faulty hardware, often power supply or motherboard’s power related components.
What are the exact specs of your computer, including PSU manufacturer and model?
Yes both of those events are there, but they just say the pc crashed, they don’t say why.
System specs are
Nvidia Geforce RTX 5070 (2 months old)
Intel core i9-14900k (2 months old)
PSU - Corsair RM750 (3 yrs old, 10 year warranty)
MB - MSI pro Z690-A (3 yrs old)
Cooler - Coolermaster MasterLiquid ML240 (2 weeks old)
While I take your point that it could be hardware related, it ONLY happens when playing wow, also
***“*This security permission can be modified using the component services administrative tool”
Does this not imply that a software is looking for a security permission that it cannot find and is therefore kicking me out or shutting down my pc after the recent bout of cyber attack?
Well, I am pretty sure WoW does not have “shutdown user’s computer” command in it - and even if it had it would be a proper shutdown.
I personally had random unexpected shutdowns and to no great surprise they stopped when I replaced PSU. They are annoying to debug especially if you are not sure what is causing them.
That’s because it is “unexpected”. Same error messages happen if you unplug the computer as that’s what exactly what happens: computer loses power for some reason. Software cannot do that.
My bet is either of these. PSU is probably easier to test so I’d start there. If you replace PSU for testing make sure to replace the cables in modular PSU as well because they are not compatible between different manufacturers OR models (with some exceptions but if you are not sure, do not reuse cables because that just ends up with a fried computer).
Hopefully your motherboard BIOS is also up-to-date so that your Intel CPU does burn itself out.
In most likelyhood the error is not related to WoW at all, and even if Windows had such features to automatically shutdown computer it would not be unexpected shutdown you are getting.
Thank you for the quick reply,
My son updated the bios when we got the new CPU and GPU, as for the rest, that will have to wait until Thursday when he has free time to look at it
Although I’m not sure we have the spare parts to test it properly as this pc was a total rebuild 3 years ago and all the old components were incompatible hence the replacements
The firstly wrote error is a Windows error.
