“did it while it mattered” would attribute to pretty much none of the removed items.
Also thats one way to excuse his absence of anything noteworthy as that would require for ion to actually be any good at the game. Maybe thats why he doesnt remove raid mounts so he can farm them expansions later when even he can do it without floorpov.
My thoughts exactly.
“Some of those particular mounts, rewards, and titles exist to [show] you were there, you did the thing, and if you missed it, you missed it.”
“the vast majority of all the rewards across World of Warcraft of every type are things that you can go back and get years later – you can go back and kill old Mythic raid bosses to get their titles and farm up their mounts. But, there are a handful of things in the space that really are about [the fact] you were part of an experience, and if you see someone with it, you know they did it while it mattered.”
Exactly what I spent all weekend preaching on these forums!
So glad we can finally put this debate to rest!
Until Microsoft takes over and Ion bows to a new overlord.
I doubt they would change that kind of philosophy. They’re more likely to introduce recolours.
Boils down to pretty much the same.
I really couldn’t care less about exclusive mounts I have and if it was up to me I’d let everyone collect any mount that has been in the game. As I do not care about being “special” it’s just a game.
Let people have them I say and stop with this BS, it’s annoying. Oh and just remove ion asap microsoft, he’s useless and he is part of the reason the game has sucked since MOP ended.
My experience with World of Warcraft is that nothing is ever set in stone regardless of their expressed convictions.
We were told we will never have PvE to PvP server transfers, cross faction communication, cross faction groups, Classic Servers etc.
As soon as they are really wanting for more cash, the closed fists always open.
We may yet see the day which most of the coveted items of the past are in the in-game store because someone high up wanted an extra yacht.
In any case Blizzard is free to put their chips on pleasing an ever-decreasing minority at the expense of an ever-growing majority. Though I doubt that the thing that keeps most people playing the game is some sort of awe towards the things they can never obtain.
I am not sure I get your comment as this was a thing from before Ion ever even worked for Blizzard. I recall the wails when people could go and farm Ashes solo back in late Wrath so your point about Ion’s abilities in the game are entirely moot.
For me the did it while it mattered label should only apply to PvP Glad awards and AOTC. An exclusive mount for buying a pass shouldn’t be covered.
Are you new here?
Ion has overseen a near catastrophic decline in the playerbase with WoW now propped up by rereleasing decades old content. I don’t like pointing the finger at individuals, but some of his pronouncements are divorced from reality.
I do not mind this but it should be someway altered if you do it after the expansion has been and gone - it is not the same rolling in and smashing a boss in 2 seconds as to when you did it with a raid group. e.g. mount called “The Amazing Horse” would become “Memory of the Amazing Horse”
most people would be happy with just a change in the name that does not affect aesthetics
TBF you really dont see that many rare mounts in game. Either they are very old and low res (I have the brewfest mount and tyraels charger and they arent that pretty to look at now!), not very attractive to start with or they are exclusive PVP mounts which you rarely see coz serious PVPers are usually off doing that and not hanging around flexing with their mounts!
Those as all BIG technical feats. that Blizzard have needed to come across to implement. They would have required a lot of man power to programme.
They’re not just putting a couple of old Mounts and Transmogs into the game. Completely different story there. Wanting to preserve the prestige in certain items, isn’t a technical feat, it’s a philosophical one.
It’s just a really pathetic to hear this kind of argument.
For Reference: Check Preach’s come back stream after his interviews at Blizzard a couple of weeks ago. I don’t really watch streamers, but it’s a good insight to what happens at Blizzard. He mentioned that he had ask about their Metrics, and discussed the “Majority of players” argument. The response was, in reality people do everything in the game. There’s no majority doing one thing.
I don’t really think that a few collectors, even if they are in growing number, is in any position to be dictating what can and can’t be removed from the game on the basis of the prestige as a reward to players. Especially when 99% of the stuff that’s been in the game, is still available to collect.
People come and go and then come back and then sometimes go again. But through those times that they are present in the game, they have an opportunity to earn rewards. They can take a break, and then be able to show off their rewards from another time.
I just don’t understand why people have such a hard problem either understanding or just accepting that as a good thing. It feels like a Primary School sports day where everyone wins a medal at the end of the egg and spoon race, so not to upset anyone.
Nope, been here since Vanilla.
Growth and Decay. Happens in every buisiness. Ofcourse an 18 year old product isn’t going to be as popular as it was when 15 years ago.
There is no prestige, only scarcity. Unless we are talking about realm firsts and gladiators.
If you will reduce the desire of people to want to be able to decorate their characters in ways they like with an “everybody gets a medal” strawman then we have nothing more to discuss.
Thanks for taking the time for that reply though I think the “pathetic” part was quite rude and it does not help open one’s mind to different points of view.
No no no!
Have them as exclusives so that players can tell their grandchildren in the future about how they were so proud to be a part of a group they thought had prestige because they had a mount made of pixels.
Of course there’s prestige. Just because you don’t personally value the prestige, doesn’t mean it’s not there.
Of course there is nothing more to discuss. Ion has spoken, and I firmly stand with the comments he made on the subject. Because quite frankly it is correct.
There are so many items in the game that you can decorate your character with. I just don’t understand why you need to decorate them with somebody else’s trophy. There is 1% (if that) of items time locked to preserve their value to the people who put the time and effort in whilst it was current.
The argument of calling a “growing Majority” is the pathetic part. Because quite frankly, everyone does everything. It’s not real argument.
Thank god the devs have more sanity than some of the forum dwellers.
That is their stance, for now. Blizzard had changed it’s mind on issues over the years regarding all sorts of issues.
I’m not saying these will be one of those situations but it’s not set in stone.
