hallo i have around 60 fps in bastion well my GPU and cpu are not even close to their max. is there a way to increase it? my cpu gets barly over 40% utilization and my gpu does not get over 60%. and in big raid fights my fps goes down to 30 even with lower settings.
this is what i am running:
Intel core I7-8700 3.2GHz 6 core
16GB ram 1063MHz
(motherboard)B360M AORUS Gaming 3-CF (U3E1)
GeForce RTX 2070 MSI
Samsung SSD 860 QVO 1TB
Power unit is Xilence performance C series XP700 550W
also pls give me tips what i should upgrade first
only way to increase wow fps is by buying a better cpu i guess, games much cpu hungry.
i have a 4790k at 4.7 ghz and have around 120 fps in bastion maxed,1080p on a gtx rog 1080.
Erm, the i7-8700K he has is a better CPU than the one you’re talking about (4790K). I have also have the 8700K and get around 120fps, so its not CPU bound.
I am wondering if he has vSync turned on or max frames limited in advanced settings.
his is not k so no,its not better than the 4790k.
he said his is running at 3.2 ghz 6 core, how can that be better than 4.7 ghz on 8 core…
and appart from wow has been modified to run dx 12,its still a engine that is single core dependant.
so single core frequency is still better than more cores and lower frequency.
so higher single core frequency better for wow
other thing i noticed is that ram is too low mhz for that cpu and gpu…you need at least a 2400/2666mhz ram ,i think your problem might be the ram instead of cpu…
check in your bios if you have xmp profile enabled for your ram…(will make your ram run at maximum mhz it can handle)
also check if your power plan is set to ultimate (google it)
check if you are running wow in dx12 option
and yes check if its not vsync enabled or some fps cap (msi afterburner or in-game)
yeah i do use max framerate ingame when i am using a bit of lower graphics to lower the fps drops in raid and pulls. going from 100 to 30 can be really anoying. so i set frames to have less of a drop. i dont have vsync on
The 4790K is only 4 cores 8 threads. Not 8 cores.
The 8700K is 6 cores 12 threads.
Yes the 4790K runs marginally faster, 4.07Ghz as compared to 3,7Ghz (not 3.2) , but the 8700K has 2 more cores, and 4 more threads, plus they can be overclocked to almost 5Ghz.
The i7-8700K is also like, 3 years newer, and makes use of improvements in chip design. https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4790K/3937vs2384
Cores don’t matter in wow. World of Warcraft is known to only be capable of using a single core. I have a ryzen 9 5900X and I run the game on a solid 200 fps although I limited it to 170 cuz it’s pointless to run at such high framerates.
That being said, even I with an RTX 3080 and the ryzen 9 have pretty massive fps drops when raiding or killing world bosses. Also, when hanging around in certain areas of ardenweald, fps will dip into the 90’s sometimes. I think it has to do with how many players are on screen, or behind buildings. Same in oribos, if there’s a lot of players, fps will be heavily impacted. It’s very strange.
I has one “main” core and 3 secondary cores. If you are in a mass actor / mass combat situation you will likely be limited by the single core. In other cases it will likely be the GPU - but that depends how efficient that CPU is.
That would look like a CPU bottleneck but it’s kind of to hard for i7-8700. I would first check addons (disabling all to see the difference), then third party apps running, especially overlays and in the end Nvidia GPU drivers - they can conflict with other drivers (usually audio) or Windows weird apps like wallpaper rotator - which is fixable by removing the Nvidia drivers with DDU, updating other drivers if available and installing Nvidia drivers fresh.
It depends on the generation and model. A “k” model might not be better than one 2 year newer than it. It depends. Using it as a blanket term isn’t correct.
Both your CPU and GPU are more than adequate to run the game, and considering the state that the market is currently, I’d advise you against spending any of your cash to make any upgrades.
I’d suggest that you have a look into the troubleshooting page here first and try all of the steps that are mentioned.
Additionally take a look at the memory timings as it was mentioned before by another poster, your processor should support DDR4 2666.
I would also visit Gigabyte’s website to download the latest drivers and Bios from there. Please be very careful with that last part, and if you have not updated a Bios before, seek help.
