It would require massive innovation from blizzard for the targeting system, especially for healing, and of course it would require some ability pruning. However, on console 8 Buttons with 4 modifiers are possible, so an ability pruning to 32 buttons max seems realistic. Of course they could change their monetization a little bit as well. The game would also need to be designed in a way that makes addons optional/obsolete.
Would you prefer to play wow on console, or keep as is?
I have irl friends, who would very likely wanna try or play wow, but they only play on console.

Lets all pray to the blizzard gods that one day this could happen.
I hope with the xbox merger Phil Spencer would make the smart decision to bring WoW to xbox it would be such an amazing thing.

Actually, apparently there are at least 60 combinations with modifiers on the xbox controller, because there are additional things, so maybe no pruning is even needed. That being said, they could change some abilities to be combos similar to fighting games.
In the end, they just need to innovate targeting and make all abilities console-friendly. Near-npc interact buttons are also needed for this. We also have live action combat already, so it could really become a thing!
Maybe they surprise us in blizzcon? I’d probably buy an xbox and only play on xbox, so I can play with my friends, if they brought wow to console
WoW is and will always be a PC game.
If they want to release it for consoles, they should make a separate version and not ruin the current one with balancing around a stupid joystick.

World of Warcraft is a subscription based game, I very much doubt it would be suitable to go on the gamepass.

I agree actually. Most I can see is them putting classic on gamepass

Or just plug in a mouse and keyboard to the console?
In ff14 you can use controller and mouse with keyboard if you want.
Imagine being in a pug with somebody who plays on console. It would be a nightmare.
That just sounds amazing… /s
You can’t do it on Xbox because Microsoft locked it down, but all you need is a controller and a TV. The community has solved this with an add on called ConsolePort.
You can even install all that on Steam Deck and play it on the go.
Looks cool for open world content. Only for that sadly.
You can heal m+ with it actually.
Here is AutomaticJak healing a 19 HoI:
This is just a controller and not a deck, but the layout is the same. In fact, since the deck has a touch screen, I can definitely imagine tapping it to switch targets using unit frames up against the left side of the small screen.
There’s also a video of Kaif, a popular streamer, tanking Tomb of Sargeras HC on a controller while playing a BrM monk and not telling his guild. Sadly can’t find it atm though…
Era and WotLK are fully playable. They’re slower and easier enough that the controller isn’t a serious impediment at all.
Also, look at the video. Although he isn’t playing super well, he’s doing something’s that people with KB+M can’t do. He can move at a 70 degree angle to the right for example, allowing him to be more ready to aim his breath by the time he stops moving.
With that said, as with nearly all games KB+M is simply far more versatile and powerful and fast, and WoW is no exception. So if you want to do 22’s and mythic raids you’re gonna want to put that controller away. Then again, most don’t.
I also agree they should do a prune but for very different reasons. However, if controller gameplay becomes easier as a byproduct, I’m not going to complain.
Loads already play with controller…
cant imagine tab targeting with a controller. how do you set a focus in a pull with 10 adds and interrupt something with a cast time less than a 1sec.
i hope they can make the switch but currently i wouldn’t play endgame content with it.
Most people don’t use focus targetting. By default, tab targetting prioritizes mobs that are casting, if you haven’t recently rotated targets with tab. So waiting for a mob to cast, hitting tab once, and then interrupting is the easy solution. Optimal? No, but good enough in most cases. And most mobs have cast times longer than 1 sec, so quickly pressing tab a couple of times also works.
The goal should be to make WoW fun and playable on controllers for the majority. High end players would stay on PC with M&KB, which is fine.
Ffxiv manages one of the best console UIs on a mmorpg without any pruning, cant see why WoW couldnt manage it.
Also dont get why people on pc should take a hit, reducing WoW to 12 button kits total, because of consoles given WoW will always primarily be a pc game.
But yes as said above, WoW doesnt need pruning to work on controller. Its already been done, by people outsidr of the games development no less.
WoW could even in current state go into console use. Also consoles can use KB+mouse these days.

Isn’t putting WOW on Xbox one of the main reasons for Microsoft to buy Activision Blizzard?
Once the management gives orders, anything can and will be done.
Whether I want to play it on Xbox - yes, once I get used to the controller.

Probably only a matter of time if the deal goes through.
They don’t need to change much if anything tbh. Wow plays really well on controller as is.
Just some minor menu and chat functions that can be a hassle.

OR they could just allow Mouse and Keyboard to be used on Console just like with Minecraft…
