WoW runs very bad on my PC

Yeah that is completely fine. XMP should always be enabled on a gaming rig.

I think the issue is the 8MB of L3 Cache, Games love L3 cache and the 4500 have half the L3 of your 1500X.
the 3600 and 4500 use the same chips but the difference is L3 with 32 vs 8 mb. 4500 is always significantly behind in performance of games.

Overclocking the GPU isn’t going to help in WoW, especially for a 4060ti which is probably half idle while playing WoW.
I could run 4k in BFA with a 1060 and still not utilize 100% of the gpu.
The performance issues in WoW is almost always CPU related.

In 2008 most people were using old HDD drives to store their games.
The slow loading times back then were due to slow hardware.
And if loading suddenly became significantly slower after an update, that suggest that there is a problem somewhere that wasn’t there before.
If some change broke something that causes the loading to take longer it should be looked into and fixed.
We have storage drives that are 50 times faster than the old HDD we used back then.
CPUs today only need 1 core to obliterate the cpus we had back then, even the quad cores.

So it sounds less like a devils advocate and more like an old parent talking about how far they had to walk to school everyday as a kid.

Why? What happened?
For me they would just revert back to default or run at the speed of the lowest rated stick?

It started with blue screen. It ended with one burnt memory module after 3-4 more blue screens.

-=EDIT=-
Regarding slow loading times, addons have a massively noticeable impact, at least on my archaic CPU. Without addons I can load Dornogal in a matter of 10 seconds if not less. With just AllTheThings, Altoholic, CanIMogIt, Rarity, Rarescanner and Tomtom, it goes to around 25sec.

WoW’s performance has gone down a lot since Dragonflight. Even Raiders with high end PC’s report stuttering or significant FPS drops in Raids or Epic BG’s. I too have a high tier PC (RTX 5070 TI, Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 32 GB Corsair RAM 6000mhz) and FPS tend to drop a lot especially in Wintergrasp or Ashran.

The WoW Devs need to get optimization in line again but that costs Time and Manpower of which Microsoft deprives them.

I have no idea about any of that. Been using XMP for a time now, no problems so far.

indeed it is. it was very noticeable in some dungeons like brackenhide hollow just how awful it ran compared to dungeons in the season pool like the everbloom etc.

Sounds strange that it would be caused by XMP though.
It’s possible that the stick was already damaged, it sometimes happen with brand new kits, or that it wasn’t seated properly.
XMP should not go over 1.35V which is fine for ddr4, experienced overclockers go a lot higher, so it’s really only the frequency that would cause problems which will cause instability and crashes but I have never heard it physically break ram-sticks.

But I am not gonna argue it’s impossible so caution is always the best option.
Ram-kit are only rated for the configuration they are sold in.
So 2x16-kit at 3600mhz might not run at 3600mhz if you buy two kits and run them 4x16.
I bought two of the same kits and had to pick a slower xmp profile when running 4 of them.

I had better performance with my old i7 2600k which I had on as high oc as I could make with air cooler and the only reason that it pump single core performance better to what I now have with newer cpus. It’s like you said, it is what it is with wow. I wouldnt care upgrade anything for wow alone but I want to play other newer games too so I’m upgrading 5600x to 9800x3d and pair it with newer gpu than my current too. This game isnt worth worrying about when it will always run bad anyway. I played mmo from year 2008 that dont cost me a dime and fought in 500v500 sieges in the world without any stutter but go wpvp quest in wow and if there is 10 ppl attacking each other the game start rubber banding in dragonflight and I paid 50 euro and the usual subs for that expansion to play with that performance :joy:

Anything hardware wise is not worth for this game alone unless the current rig cant meet the minimum requirements.

Now im a little scared too tbh… But honestly i probably need to overclock it further if i want to get a few more extra fps, if i found out how.

I had to smile at this.

My setup runs at 32 fps in Dorn, my graphics settings are pretty low but I can play the game just fine.

I am about to upgrade considerably, mainly because of the Windows 11 nonsense where my CPU is not supported.

I know there are many players who are almost fanatical about maintaining top performance and like to have the latest high-end hardware - I was the same years ago - however, WoW in itself is such an antique now that it does not need or warrant this.

Rufus is your friend when it comes to Win 11

You have no need to worry. XMP just enables the Ram to run at their advertised speeds, it’s the speed the manufacturer have tested them for and verified it is stable, they are also not pushed further than the safe voltage so it’s all good.
Without XMP your ram would stay at the standard ddr4 speed which is 2133MHz.
Ryzen loves fast ram so XMP should always be enabled, preferably synced with the infinity fabric for even better performance.

If you want to try an overclock, AMD has their own software called Ryzen Master.
It let’s you access similar settings as those in BIOs but a little easier to navigate.
The important thing is to check Memory Control and make sure that Coupled mode is on so Memory clock and Fabric clock is the same.
Example: I have my ram at 3600mhz, in Ryzen Master though ram speed of 3600 is a clock speed of 1800. So my Memory and Fabric clock are both set to 1800.
If you have 3200mhz you set them to 1600 etc.
But look up a guide video etc for how to overclock in ryzen master before you do anything.

So check out Ryzen Master, at least to make sure that Coupled Mode is active, it will also give you some info about temps, speed and power draw etc.

This is so annoying, “hey lets just stop support for win 10 so everyone have to upgrade to win 11”

Damn :face_with_diagonal_mouth: in Vanilla you could’ve played it on a microwave…

Vanilla was many moons ago, look what they have add to the spaghetti code since gfx wise. Like they have literally add these volumetric fog effects and even ray tracing to wow and I’m like are you for real, nobody plays wow for ray tracing :joy:

If they think these type gfx are prio to even waste time for wow, they are completely clueless. It’s not a joke that they optimize their engine poorly. Trying polish old football full wear and tear is still an old football. They should focus more on gameplay type designing and class reworks and this type brain work instead of try make old game look pretty which then runs bad and class designs are bad when most are neglected and outdated and in need of rework for many expansions already.

But hey, if I go in options and enable ray tracing I can have cool looking reflections, though I will have 30 fps but so worth it! Big priorities :joy:

it seems Ryzen master cannot be used for my pc for some reason :frowning:

You can OC in bios if you want, you dont reed ryzen master to oc. But I wouldnt suggest trying oc your 4500 I would just look parts for a new build on your time.

Well are u sure it is your pc? There are many complaints atm, even from players from world first guilds and I dont think they have bad pc’s. I even see complaints about WoW stuttering, dc’s, flikkering in the GW2 chat…

500 euro cpu to play 20 yo game

No worth just for the sake of wow the game performs poorly regardless of hardware.
