WoW Sequel Instead of New Expansions

Hello Blizzard Team,

I’m a long-time World of Warcraft fan, and I’d like to share an idea for the future of the franchise. Instead of continuing with new expansions, I believe a fresh approach could reinvigorate the player base and attract new players: a full sequel, World of Warcraft 2.

Here’s my vision:

  • The game starts in a new timeline, with a cinematic showing that the old worlds have been destroyed, signaling a clean slate.
  • Players experience a completely fresh world with new lore, factions, and gameplay mechanics.
  • The sequel is developed on a modern platform, offering upgraded graphics, animations, and technical features.
  • This approach gives the feeling of a fresh WoW, where everything is new and exciting while retaining the core elements that players love.

I believe this could generate a lot of excitement in the community and open new creative possibilities for Blizzard.

Developing the original WoW took them many, many years. At that time they didn’t had another game to support so it was only a risky venture for that.

Present day, if they were to create a WoW 2 (which is actually the current modern WoW) but for the sake of argument, a “totally new sequel” they would have to both support current WoW or players may leave due lack of new content and/or bugfixes.

Estimate 3 years for an Alpha, 4 years for a Beta and even longer for an actual wonky game. This is the timeline you’ll have to make do with nothing new.

In comparision with Classic, current modern Retail has had many great QoL features that is repeatedly asked by the rose tinted glasses crowd to please add to Classic when they were never there with. I can guarantee you, this so called Sequel WoW is not something that should be done now, maybe until 2-3 expansions from Midnight’s point.
