WoW shutting down

Hi there everyone!

I got this laptop since Christmas 2014 and with these characteristics:
Intel i7 3630QM 2,4 GHz / 8 Gb DDR-3 / GeForce GT 635M - 2 Gb DDR5

I know my laptop isn’t new nor the best, and I have recently changed its HDD to a SSD as also renewed the thermal paste.

However and even after that, the game continues crashing (either blue-screen or just freezing).
Do you think the VGA is dead or how can I fix this problem??

Your GPU is a fair bit below the minimum required specs to play WoW.
Even though it technically supports DX11, I doubt it can handle the game at all.
However that shouldn’t necessarily result in a crash or even a BSOD!

While I don’t want to question your ability, it could very well be that you bricked something when you renewed the toothpaste (especially since laptops are usually built to not be opened again)

Personally I recommend building a new computer from ground up (really not that expensive), or if you depend on a laptop’s mobility, buy a new one.

BRO don’t scare me with titles like that. Holy crap.

Heya,

Did the same problem happen before you tinkered around with the laptop? Although your laptop does not meet the full system requirements, the blue screen crash would often indicate a hardware or driver issue (not specifically an issue with the game installation).

Do you play with the laptop plugged into a power outlet, or using the battery?

Have a few seconds to spare? Let me know how I’m doing!

what is the exact error code the blue screen shows? i can help you narrow down what exactly is going on.

Yes, it happened before.
And yes, I do use the laptop plugged into a power source.

I have also tested it with Diablo 3 and it happened the same thing.
However, out of gamming the laptop works fine, so I really think the VGA has died :frowning:

Have to check my economies to see if I can afford a new laptop (I really need the portability) in the near future…

If it only happens during gaming and not while you’re using Office etc… your dGPU

Is gone.

I assume non gaming applications are running on your iGPU which should be a Intel HD4000. Try disabling your GT 635M and force WoW to run entirely over you CPU and it’s iGPU.
You can do that by typing Devmgmt.msc in your searchbar, opening the graphics subcategory and disabling it there.

Cheap Laptop and Gaming are usually 2 entirely different topics, however I’ve heard good things of the Acer Aspire E-15, if that’s within your budget

It says:
VIDEO TDR FAILURE
It failed nvlddmkm.sys

I will try that, thanks for the reply!

Just curious, is it happening in DX12 or 11? What happens if you are playing in DX11? Also is it happening while playing other games? Or happening while not playing WoW?

Can’t even select DX12, so DX11 is my only option.
It happened while playing Diablo 3 too.

(my previous reply states the error message by the way)

download and run DDU, it removes all video drivers 100%, then reinstall the latest available driver for your card.

Did that this afternoon, let us see how things go in this evenning and next hours/days.
If this fails, I would then assume that the VGA is actually dead  :
