Wow song stolen!

Hi everyone,

Not sure if you guys have noticed but I’m mad about this.

The artist (if you can call her that) ‘Tones and I’ published a song recently.

The melody in this song is provided by DJ Frank. Here’s the THING, it sounds EXACTLY LIKE THE SONG ‘GNOMEREGAN’ IN WOW!

Tones and I : https://youtu.be/UdRJY-jlEhQ

Gnomeregan : https://youtu.be/nVcgzPahoCM

like 100% the same! She and the dj ripped it off wow! Check on YouTube and compare them.

I HATE people who catch fame by stealing songs!

If Acrtiblizzard will not sue them… I will lose faith in their greedyness.

With all the jabs at Blizzard now adays, it’s hard to tell who’s serious and not.

  1. Its Activision and not Blizzard
  2. They are greedy as hell but I actually want them to be like that~ this time.

Which song is it anyway? I can’t find it.

I know places in wow that have almost the same music as some of the gothic 2 and 3.
And these places came with later expansion 2010+.
In todays world sadly games steal from eachother.
Song, content, bosses e.t.c.

So why don’t you tell us what the song is ?

Hard to comment when we don’t have all the info.

Hi,
not really sure which song it is, Name or link would be appreciated.
And it doesn’t have to be on purpose, it’s really hard to make a new melody since your mind makes up melodies from things that you’ve already heard. There’s a chance that this is a completely from the mind of the creator and it just a coincidence.
Of course, I’m against stealing art. I just wanted to clarify that it didn’t have to be intentional.

Actually while we are at it the Theme song from Nagrand was used in Batman vs Superman movie. It sounds the same and its in the movie, not sure if they removed it or people even bothered with it.

One could suspect an attempt to boost channel/video ranking through search queries and video accesses.

See edit in post :upside_down_face:

It sounds similar… not 100% the same. Who even cares? :joy:

Thanks for sharing the song though, I quite like it.

it’s similar, but it honestly just sounds like a sample that could easily have been created on their own.

Think you heard the song and made a connection in your head.
Personally, it’s a bit of a stretch for me to hear a blatant copy.

They both use the same chord progression for the intro.

You can not copywrite a chord progression (other wise 99% of Rock/blues song writers would be getting sued) so there’s no legal basis for court action there.

As for the melody, it’s totally different in both pieces of music.

If you hate people that ‘catch fame’ by stealing songs then you must hate 99% of songwriters from the last century. There are 8 notes and there are a finite combination of those 8 notes.

AN example ? Ben E. Kings. ‘Stand by ME’ and Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman No Cry’ use the same chord progression. (a chord progression that’s also been used in thousands of other songs too)

To add to what Bagdawg has said there is an excellent comedy sketch about one of the more popular ‘classical’ tunes out there.

Well worth a watch.

Don’t forget about the Axis of Awesome - and Benny.

To add to the ‘Stolen Songs’ debate, check out Chuck Berry’s ‘Sweet Little Sixteen’ and the Beach Boys ‘Surfin’ USA’, Chiffons ‘He’s So Fine’ and George Harrisons ‘My Sweet Lord’

There are also several artists that rip themselves off and will ‘write’ the same song 2 or more times (C Berry and Bon Jovi are 2 perpetrators here)
