Wow tbc the most hardcore expansion

TBC was never “time consuming” as the later expansions after cata. Loging for 2 hours daily to do the grinds to stay competitive is way more time consuming then 1 weekend worth of atunements (also the atunements themselves take around 4 to 6 hours before you hit the weekly raiding stuff and then you finish it in that week). After that you log for raids and stay happy and competitive.

There is nothing hardcore or grindy about levelling, having a lot of content in a game that you can progress through is great, it’s not “grinding”. Grindy is when you need to do play the game doing repetitive menial tasks for unreasonable amounts of time in order to play the game doing the content you enjoy, for example excessive farming of materials for consumables in order to be able to play or excessive amount of time investment required to progress in any meaningful way, but levelling doesn’t count.

Vanilla had the honor system, world buffs, expensive consumables. Legion had artifact power, titanforging, legendaries, BFA/Shadowlands copy/paste mandatory farming stuff. TBC has nothing, you play the game and progress through content and you climb the ladder, once you’re at “current raid content” you can play the game in maintenance mode and not be punished or fall behind.

I don’t know. The stuff like leveling to 70 - getting pre bis and all the reps and then attunements… if you got all pre bis from heroics then it’s over. That was it, you raidlog and pray for loot. That is like 3 hours of gameplay a week so no it’s not time consuming.

They did timegate the content to make it feel “longer” but it doesn’t mean that it was more time consuming.

This is trick is still used by Blizzard. Remove the timegate and the content won’t last more than few hours (probably faster than TBC)

As i said it’s not only about attunement. Profession were mostly useless, they added a lot of catch-up, players were reaching theirs objectives way faster because Blizzard added so many shortcuts.

In Vanilla/TBC, at least there were no shortcuts everyone have to do the same content and follow the same path. That’s why overall Vanilla/TBC were the most time consuming expansion and a lot of players weren’t able to clean BWL while TBC came out or the biggest part of the playerbase was still in the T5 content while WOTLK came out.

Not sure about “professions beeing useless” as they craft almost T5 equivalent gear and weapons…
You can get atuned to Kara while leveling (except arca, but that’s are like 2 dungeons after you ding 70). Do SP HC for sec quest pickup. Kill gruul, nightbane and you are ready for ssc. If you have reps you can do the TK part and after magth kill you are ready for all T5.
Really can’t see atunements taking more than week irl to complete. Maybe 15 hours after 70 if you have reps and little more if you don’t (but you should have rever with all except shatar when you hit 70)

Retail eats this amount of time over 1 week and adds up every passing day. Way more time consuming. I will have full T6 on all my chars and see them performing on competitive levels with mains, can’t say that with retail after mop.

OP…difference between tbc and retail is that once you have your attune-quests done and grinded some heroics…your done. Never having to grind again. Its like 150-200 hours on max level to get most things done, even including gold grinding.

TBC requires no time investment whatsoever apart from the initial leveling/dungeon ‘grind’.
I’m raidlogging hard at the moment and even my gold for consumables comes from raiding itself (each 25man + Kara reset gives about 100g).
