i’m assuming you haven’t tried LK classic yet? otherwise you would know the value of gold is basically nothing outside gdkps and goldbuying/botting is rampant and the only thing this does is that those of us who dont want to risk getting banned can also buy gold while reducing the profits of the botters → hopefully less bots
this seems like fake outrage to me but idk, maybe this actually does upset you but if thats the case i can only assume it’s because you dont know the state of classic and gold =/

Gold sellers are still active in Retail to this day racking enough profit they afford advertisement on YouTube etc. They don’t even hide anymore.
Gold based progression isn’t healthy for the game even if the majority right now feels like they benefit from it. And now sanctioning gold buying through tokens ensures it’ll stay here.
Shame. Didn’t spend more on the game than I needed to with the only stuff other than base sub being Zygor Guides since their tools were decent help when questing and during farming. And now even Blizzard tells me the only road through endgame is to pay them more and use my RL money to gain power in game…

oh come on man. i’ve been raiding at a high level throughout classic, top 50 world parses, top 10 world speedrunning etc, full 99s in essentially every raid and ive never bought gold. now gold is worth even less than before unless you are going the gdkp route, in which case you are actively making the choice to have gold be valuable.
you most certainly dont need to buy gold with or without tokens to do the endgame or excel in it, especially not in wotlk.

i started playing wotlk today just because of token… without it for me it has no reason to play wow, so this is BIG win for me

Botting and gold buying is allowed because blizzard can’t moderate it, I don’t understand how the token made you want to play when you can get gold cheaper elsewhere
Or Blizzard allowed them to thrive to form an RMT addiction among many in the community. Like one poster said, the moment WoW token arrived bots from BT are gone, like with Thanos snap. After all botters pay same subs and if not more level boosts.
Botters deapite paying same sub can easily pay up for sponsored links at Google and advertisement on YouTube and that’s for Retail where WoW Token has been “fighting them” for few years now. Something tells me they’re not in as dire situation as you’d like to believe.

4.3k GS as Healer with barely any Phase 1 BiSb and tier chest from Ulduar via EoCs, by week 5 of Ulduar still got rejected from groups due to GS so I doubt I’d fare better now. My tank side had it roughly similar. Phase 7 runs were increasingly rare with Naxx being reduced to KT and Saph meaning I couldn’t get meaningful upgrades for most my slots (maybe Healer weapon but that’s really all). As it stands now I don’t see much avenue to gear up since all Ulduar Runs are now HM and I don’t like my chances after ToC drops considering HC++ will be gated behind Ulduar Gear while raid itself will be primarily ran on HC. Maybe some luck with Heroic Trial of the Champion but with HC++ dropping much better rewards (EoTs and currency to buy 10m HM gear) it’ll likely won’t be easy to group up. Glimpses from larger realms taught me they lean heavily into GDKP for which my main is too low on gold to even consider and as often reminded guilds aren’t exactly keen on taking undergeared nobodies that can’t commit to full schedule (work in shifts sucks but it pays the bills).
And now we get a Token, a legitimate way to RMT which will only further cement the status quo… Dunno about you but I’m not liking my chances here.

Might need to look for a guild or start making the groups yourself. It’s a bit more work but usually worth the effort, especially if the alternative is not getting into any group.
I get it seems rough, but it makes sense that people don’t want to carry someone else so you’ll have to try to make it easier for yourself.
If you check AH there’s usually plenty of BOE’s from ulduar that sell for the price of an abyss crystal(60g) that you can also pick up to get closer.

Guilds won’t take me in because A) I’m undergeared B) I can’t commit to a weekly schedule since I work in shifts thus making the effort to gear me up not worth it.
Starting a group is another can of worm since it will also require of me to lead the group. Something that as someone who haven’t run Ulduar a single time I’m not willing to risk. That and I imagine not many players will decide to stick with low GS leader. Hell afaik I had freaking problems forming a simple quick farming group so I could try and get Soul Preserver from CoH. Sitting, asking, begging and not a single time managed to find someone willing to lend 30-40 minutes of their time for few runs. Tried doing it solo but time and effort required make it a poor farm.
Checked two items fron Ulduar Crafted stuff that would work for Prot Paladin… Boots are currently 1.4k on NK Horde, Belt 2k… Unsure what other BoEs i could find

Thats a Business move to drain 7euro from every token sold before classic wotlk ends and some hardcore season of mastery will be coming out soon.
