What resolution? Are you using fsr upscaling from a lower resolution? What nvidia settings are you running? Is DSR active?
80% is deffo a bit high. What power does it consume? Is it underclocked or something?
As comparison I just tried it on my gf’s computer with a 3060ti and it was at never above 60% with max settings on 1440p. Usually around 45% with 150 watt while beta was running in the background with 30 fps.
…
Btw, where did you limit the FPS? Ingame or in the nvidia settings?
Well, at what framerate? 60 hardly strains any modern GPU… 120+ FPS is where it needs alot of power. That’s normal.
Or maybe he has supersampling enabled.
Limited at 143 FPS (144 Hz monitor). I get 80% load only when I unlimit frames and have like 300+ FPS.
That’s why I asked for DSR, etc.
EDIT:
Btw, it could also be a hardware issue with the PCI Slot. I recently had that issue. When I swapped the GPU to another PCI Slot, I always had 99% load and 200 FPS max with a 3080 ti. You often can setup the PCI gen in your bios. Maybe it’s downscaled there. Check the PCIe-Link-Speed your GPU with HWiNFO64 for example. It should be 16.0 GT/s. If it’s only 8.0 GT/s you have found the reason.
Depends on the Mainboard. There must be something about PCI maximum speed, or PCI generation, or something like this.
But depending on the Mainboard, it could also be, that the slot only can PCI 3.0 because usually your bios should take maximum speed for the GPU anyways.
If it only can PCI 3.0 you need to take another PCI Slot. Most of the time the one that is directly under the CPU.
What I would do in your case:
Check power settings. Type “additional power settings” in the search field in windows. Try out “high performance” if that isn’t active yet.
If that didn’t change anything, I would check with hwinfo64 what Mainboard I have (usually the first point. For example “System: Gigabyte Z690 UD”. With that info I would google how to change it in bios, if you aren’t sure how to do it.
When that also didn’t work, I would try another PCI slot for your GPU.
Maybe you have a friend who is good with PCs that could help you? You can mess up in the bios if you accidentally change values without knowing what they do.
Btw: How old is your MB? Did you just upgrade your GPU or is the MB also somewhat new?
You can use Gen5 but it won’t make a difference. Your GPU is not supporting it. Even the newest GPU (4090) is still using Gen4 afaik, while most expected it would have Gen5.
What is your GPU load now ingame? You should also get a lot more FPS when you remove the limitation, just to test.
my gpu load is all over the place, i think the game is just badly optimized with certain settings(and more importantly the zone you’re in). most of the time its around 50-60% on rtx3060, when i look straight down outside of the garison area in dreanor expansion (and only with water quality set to good or higher) the gpu skyrockets to 100% and fps drops to 40. putting water quality down to fair drops the load to 60% again at 60fps.
another example is bastion where it just seems almost always 100% at 50fps, even worse in Spires of Ascension where it runs at 40fps on medium settings, while every other shadowlands zone runs at 80% maxed graphics 4k
i dont think any screenshots or links are allowed on here sadly but the graphic settings change very little in these cases. other than drastically reducing the resolution slider to like 50%
i searched around quite a bit and im definitely not alone.
the thread “Analyzing Spires of Ascension FPS drop - excess amount of shaded pixels” explains a lot, or "Spires of Ascension - Massive Fps Drop (facing north)"
i havent tried the fixes posted in these threads yet like deleting the config file or swapping between dx11 and back to 12, but ive since moved on to classic wotlk again
