Wow was released 20 yrs ago today

Happy 20th birthday Wow. However for us in Europe we had to wait till Feb 2005 for release. I remember playing the european Beta over xmas 2004 i think? …i made a human mage. Anyone else remember the beta?

Nope. I joined in TBC aftet watching a certain South Park episode, but even then I didnt like the game that much (probably because I didn’t have a clue what I was doing) I came back a few months after that for ‘one last chance’ and haven’t looked back since.

With that said I struggling to enjoy the game atm although the reintroduction of classic HC is keeping me busy for now.

Didn’t bother with WoW till 3/4s into TBC when I started on private servers before subscribing officially. Was playing other MMOs prior to that [Legends of Mir, Mu Online, Myth of Soma, Ragnarok Online to name a few…].

Saw this trailer in one of PC Format’s CDs back in 2001;

I joined in Classic , but only a couple of months before TBC launched.
I didn’t even know about TBC until I saw blood elves everywhere and I asked how can I play one.
Then a player explained to me I need to buy the expansion.
I had no idea about anything back then.

It’s not like wow , these days , where data miners and content creators and dedicated wow websites , tell us everything about new content months ahead. Players have thoughts and opinions ( mostly complaints) about stuff that isn’t even out yet.
Back then new stuff came out , and you didn’t even know , unless someone told you or you bothered to come on the wow forums to check a blue post.

I dislike how Blizz killed the World in Warcraft and killed the MMO in the MMORPG of the game. To make end game snappier , faster , rewarded sooner and faster. Give us a shopping weekly to-do list.

I’m playing Classic Fresh right now , and I’ve had over 400 interactions with other players over the weekend. From small things like just being buffed to full convos , dungeon convos , active g-chat and people coming on Discord for a laugh.

Although I’m not a fan of S1 Tww , I am a retail player and It’s shame retail killed all that off. I think WoW has lost it’s identity. When I think of the name World of Warcraft … Where is the world ? Where is the Warcraft gone ?

I remember the ending the most. The world bosses attacking the cities and such. That was pretty awesome.

Started 6-7 months before tbc release if i remember. Got 14 days free code from a gamer magazine.

Ever since this is my main char.

I started in April 2005 with an Orc Warrior.
I played til around September 2005 by which point my Orc Warrior was level 30 with 30g. Leveling and earning were harder back then. Though I did have a level 14 Troll Shaman too.
I took a break until 2007 when TBC came out and then Gram was born on Azuremyst.

gnome mage, good times! (expect for survival rate, pixelated textures, zero quality of life features… not really missing classic, but the nostalgia is surely there)
