Wow with new engine like unreal

Ashes of creation will be the same as new world, people will flock to it, have a 2 month vacation from WoW in the process, then stop playing and come back to WoW.

The only game that’s managed to hurt the WoW playerbase in 20 years is FF14, and having seen that game the players it took weren’t players who loved WoW for WoW anyway.

I suspect that soon we will have AI that can recreate the entire game, maps, quests, characters and collections, in unreal engine within the span of a single expansion cycle.

You don’t use Frame Generation to get more frames.

Well you do, but that’s not really whats about it .

You use FG when CPU gets bottlenecked, to reduces stutters caused by that.

WOW would benefit a ton since the only bottleneck atm is how bad it utilizes the CPU.

Using Frame Generation doesn’t remove the lag that comes with low FPS. This means that it’s useless for anything other than seeing “400FPS” in your FPS counter.

If you don’t understand why people want higher FPS than 60, then perhaps this isn’t an issue to you, but it has nothing to do with how high the number is, and everything to do with how smooth and responsive the game feels, none of which is improved with frame generation.

That was short lived due to the FotM streamers. FF14 drew their main story line a to a close and it seems to have hurt them. There’s a reason they only give total account and not current subs.

FF14 is a very long term investment. The story is literally months long unless you get out your credit card.

Every time someone mentions UE5 and WoW in the same sentence, my eyes roll out the back of my head

UE5 is not built for a game like WoW, and no, you can’t just drag and drop a game from one engine into another. WoW will never change to another engine and it will never change its art style

Technical reasons aside, a change in engine means the erasing of all progress and content from the existing game. I guarentee the vast majority of players would be unwilling to part with their collections

Ultimately people who want “WoW in UE5” usually understand nothing about how games work and want engine changes for the most shallow of reasons

You are a bit …i do not know how to say stupid but in a nice way.
I said it would be cool to have wow with new graphix on new engine and start the game from classic , then outland, then nordred, etc
I did not say we must have it. Its a wish, a dream with a new engine , not ur5 exactly. Anything new. Even some blizz new engine.
We are daydrwaming so no need to be condescending

Depends how its done and how it would look.

If i can keep all the mounts and transmogs from this game then i am all in because i for one am not willing to start from the beginning again after this much time.

And about the graphics sure but the game would need to have same style as WoW now has because i just can’t stand the more “realistic” look of most “realistic” looking MMO’s as 99,99999999% of them have no other colours than black, white, gray, brown and more brown all of them always end up looking the same boring depressing mess to me.

Then there is the main issue of monetization as i personally do not trust modern game developers not fudging up the whole thing with obscene greed.

A reroll of characters for everyone, i see problems.

Expansion 13 jumps to unreal engine but the progress jumps with it, i see success

I just ditched my laptop with GTX675 which ran WoW very well…
My new laptop with RTX4060 looks amazing but not sure it plays massively better…
Pretty sure that internet speeds are the biggest factor in playability

WoW is mostly affected by CPU speed, not core count if I remember correctly, but I might be wrong as the game has been updated a few times.

FPS has been pegged at 144fps with no movement for me since the 1080ti. (I now run a 7900xtx and a 3080 (2 PCS)) however I don’t buy hardware to play wow.

This is why drugs are bad.

WoW doesn’t use that much data outside of patching. You can get away with reasonably high latency too.

It’s multithreaded but not massively so. The number of addons you have is likely to have a cost and how quick they can get data too you. Even AFKing in a city send massive amounts of data to you.

It does in Battlegrounds and raids. In LFR I see it have spikes of over 1Mbps, with the average around 300-400kbps. Idling in Dornogal with 30 people around me uses less than 50kbps.

Nah. Unreal engine is the scourge. Eats too much performance, is mostly not optimized, heavily uses lazy upscaling that makes the games blurry.

Wow looks great as it is. It looks unique. Most people I would think don’t want wow to look like “generic UE MMO #35”.
Performance would also not be better.

They should rather work on wows undercarriage. And increase performance with more than 10 people on the screen.

So what you want is classic.

What will it be named? Classic Classic? Classic SoD Classic? Classic 2.0? Classic 3.0? ive lost count

Let’s not give them ideas.

Stories that 90% of the playerbase have played through xx amount of times.

“vanilla was all about the journey” - yes 20 years ago, when you hadnt done that jorney several times before. Nobody except a marginal few want this, its an illusion.

They wanted classic, they got classic, then they wined some more about retail having to become more like classic -

and now you soon have one classic version/game per post on this forum. when is enough enough? Wow is all about the endgame, people have done the so called journey to the endgame many times over on many characters.

no one in their right mind would spend 100 hours per expansion to get another character to max level.

Even though you didn’t ask me, let me answer to this. Yes, yes I would. I think wow graphics are timeless and they are going to look good after 100 years. Tbh I also like how the game looked in vanilla and that is obviously worse than what we have now.

I think you missed that one.

Also if you don’t understand this line either

Then maybe just re-read the entire thing again?

I’m not saying i want WoW as WoW is now.

I would love to play a version of every WoW zone just like how Bg3 act 1 is.

Would be amazing, I am sorry if you can’t envision the game in a different way.

No. You said “100 hours per expansion”

So it does not mather if it is single player or not, 100 hours is 100 hours.

Farming old content in its current state for achievments, transmogs etc. is an important part of the game, like it or not.

Make this the way you want it and it will be a single player game litterally.

you will be the only one playing it.
