we’ve just updated the mac to 12.6.3 so its the latest version of it but still no joy, just goes to connecting then crashing! joke now isnt it
The fact that updating to Monterey made no difference and that I can play on Big Sur means the problem is related to specific hardware rather than macOS versions.
I would be careful with this as a solution as it won’t make a difference to the crash issue if your system is not designed to use that OS as the graphics drivers are Catalina drivers patched in after the install.
I have a late 2013 iMac 27 which I updated from Catalina 10.15.7 to Ventura two months ago. It all runs fine and ran WoW without issues until the 10.0.5 patch.
Since then had the crash on launch with black screen issue and even after the fix for 10.15.7 I still crash albeit after a connecting load screen.
So, updating to Ventura on an unsupported Mac will not fix your issue unless the machine uses the drivers that come with Ventura and for Opencore legacy patcher to run you don’t use those but need post install patches that still don’t work.
I’m hoping that the next fixes will address all varieties of OS whether patched or native to that system and all gpu kexts and work accordingly otherwise those of us with patched systems will end up having to revert to last compatible OS version or buy a new machine.
Bottom line, just because Ventura doesn’t have issues and Catalina now seems fixed it doesn’t mean a mix of both will work as in my experience it doesn’t.

So it just worked for me an hour ago, then i got a new update and now im back to getting an error. Amazing…

So frustrating, I just got an auto response saying update your MacOS, which coincidently I did, and it didn’t work.
Because what do you expect a GM to do? They can’t push out a fix for specifically you. Thats up to the developers.

Just adding few optimistic words. I tried the PTR (10.0.5) and it is working for me. Not tested deeply - only few minutes, e.g. haven’t any idea about the FPS and so, but IT WORKS. (BigSur, Intel, AMD-6900). So, hopefully wendesday…

For those curious, I can explain what’s going on at a more technical level. There are two similar and related issues going on here. Both issues have to do with the game using some Metal Shader Language features that were added in macOS 11. This code path was used in 10.0.2 but only if you had MSAA on and MSAA Alpha Test enabled. MSAA is off by default, so most users likely didn’t hit this code path. In 10.0.5, this shader feature was used in more cases. There was a fallback path created for macOS 10.14 and 10.15, since they don’t support the macOS 11 feature. There ended up being a bug in the fallback path, causing it to use the feature even though it shouldn’t. The fallback path was fixed up to work as intended on the build that went out on Friday and that’s why macOS 10.14 and 10.15 work now. A similar but different issue appears to be that some Metal drivers seem to crash when trying to compile shaders using this feature, even though it is “supposed to” work. GPU drivers are different for different GPU “families” and can change at any minor macOS version, so it’s hard to pin down which ones work and don’t work exactly.
The build that will be released with the next scheduled maintenance (Tomorrow for the Americas) expands the fallback path to all macOS versions 12.x and older and also all Intel GPUs regardless of macOS version, as a fairly heavy handed way to try to get things back up and running for everyone.
Looks like both the 10.0.5 and 10.0.7 versions on the PTR are working fine for me now, which is great!

It’s been a week of being unplayable now do you think Blizz will offer refunds/compensation? Has anything happened like this before where Blizz gave compensation?
Yes, it’s worth testing the 10.0.5 PTR as that has the fix applied already. Most people are reporting that it works now and they are able to select character and log in.
I on the other hand cannot, it crashes after the cinematic (which is new, could not see that before, but could be because my retail install has that flagged as watched).
I’m guessing that unless this issue is more widespread it will be either limited to those with NVIDIA GeForce cards as they speak of Radeon and Intel but not NVIDIA or because you like me were running Ventura before the patch after using OpenCore Patcher.
Bottom line is still not working for me and unless they address this issue too then looks like it’s either no more WoW or a headache rolling back to Catalina just to run WoW.
Sigh.
Would appreciate it if any blue can flag this issue as I can’t post on the US forums where the Mac dev is active to tell them.
