Wowhead advertising illegal addon

Bet you use addons?

Whenever somebody pulls up the “skill” question, I laugh a little like that would ever matter. The path to enjoyment from the game starts with not caring about random hobo’s opinion on someone being skilled or not.

Especially when their comment is daft when the world first raiders or top tier PvP’ers use addons… guess they’re not skilled, where as Joe Addonless here doing a +10 or 1500 rating without is more skilled. :dracthyr_shrug:

Just parroting clowns because their saviour Asmondgold says so.

I mean, so far all rhetorics both pro and contra on this are unnecessarily complex, like … why can’t people behave like adults.

Addons are allowed and Blizz greenlighted part of the game, you can use them or don’t, nobody other than you is forcing you.
So pick a choice you like the most and continue to fulfil the purpose of you in the game, that is to have fun. Because why play it otherwise?

If you think the only way you can see someone’s parse is by having this addon, I have some news for you.

Let me introduce you to https://www.warcraftlogs.com/

I think it’s somewhat iffy even if it’s ‘in testing’ to put it behind a paywall. I presume this works like the WoL overlay you can get to see logs in game in Retail. I am not really interested personally in seeing people’s logs but I don’t play at that level it matters.

But any addon could paywall then if it was just for EA or testing. I’m not quite sure with this one as it’s an overlay that presumably works from Archon/WoL API.

This addon is just there to exclude people who are not a 99% sweaty Joe. That alone should warrant a ban from Blizzard as it will further motivate an ever increase in toxicity against new players and casual players.

That it also costs €25 a month is even more clown. Who even pays more for an addon than the cost of the game itself?

I think this won’t fly far because:

‘‘All add-ons must be distributed free of charge. Developers may not create “premium” versions of add-ons with additional for-pay features, charge money to download an add-on, charge for services related to the add-on, or otherwise require some form of monetary compensation to download or access an add-on’’.

Hol up, TSM is paid now?

It’s been a hot minute since I used it.

This thread is literally about warcraftlogs.com. The owner of the site is the one who’s doing this.

My opinion on this is the same as it was for RestedXP, as it was for Zygor, etc. It’s a joke that Blizzard are allowing it. Obviously they don’t care about the integrity of their game. It’s shameful, and I’m sick of it. I’ve sworn it off myself.

The addon is free, access to their database is for paid users.
For regular stuff you use the addon, but if you want to let’s say scan the BMAH across all servers, then only paid users get their database.

Imagine paying 2x the cost of wow subscription for an addon that shows parses for CLASSIC SOD.
So hardcore stupid lmao.

This is where it’s not clear cut. Many addons have free versions and additional patreon/paid membership perks.

And my answer is literally about Warcraft logs and their acquired Archon.

However the comment I responded to was claiming that the addon gives advantage. It does not. Nor have I supported the paywall.

This post seem to be about something in wowhead which according poster breaks tos? (Im unsure)

Im sure all the normal basic addons from details to bigdebuffs and dbm/bigwigz people have used for years however doesnt break tos and the “use of addons in wow” and such should be discussed in another topic.

On another thought if something does violate tos should it then be posted on forum if its tought to violate it?

That is very interesting. There used to be a sim site years ago that was free of charge. Around about the time MoP launched they changed to a pay site and have been so for many years without incident. I also do know a ton of people no longer use it because it is a pay site. However if that is in the T&C’s I wonder how come blizzard have never stepped in ?

You will have to explain that me then as the snip from the T&C’s seem pretty clear.

Like I said many existing addons have a free version everyone has access to and then there are perks for supporters. Usually those perks are things like faster updates, for example if you use Raider IO. I just use the free addon which updates my in game score of other people/their mains etc twice a day. If I subscribe to them that data is pushed more frequently.

This had greater appeal when Blizzard didn’t adopt that scoring system. Now the info you can see via Raider io is great but having it 12/24 hours out of date isn’t the end of the world.

and yet the T&C’s say

Developers may not create “premium” versions of add-ons with additional for-pay features,

To me its black and white and no in-between. You cannot charge for additional services it should all be free or you in violation of the T&C’s. Ergo Blizzard should ban or intervene.

Well… technically speaking it’s free but you need a patreon sub to download. You don’t have to pay the addon itself.
Morally speaking… it’s a Taliessin’s show (if you know why I mean )

seems like everyone is choosing to ignore the words

Premium and additional for pay services.

To me it isn’t because they’ve always existed. So not so black and white. There is clearly more to it.

You can’t ask for money on the addon in game. Those get closed down.
