WoWhead and banned countries

This is not a rant post. I know it was discussed many times and it’s been 7 months since 6 countries were banned from accessing wowhead, including serbia and turkey which have almost identical regulations as EU. I know Blizzard has nothing to do with 3rd party site and it’s policies, but why do they promote wowhead in game support then ? When a quest bugged out or we simply need help, the customer support tells us to check wowhead which we cannot even access, they offer local payments but promotes a site which is unreachable. This is confusing

There’s simply no alternative to this site and it feels bad to use VPN every single time, i’m settled with bluetracker for now

The argument used by Wowhead is that complying with their laws regarding websites would be expensive and take the conclusion that given they didn’t make much revenue off of those countries’ users it is not worth such development and instead they choose to leave those countries.

I don’t know if is true that complying with regulations is so expensive as they said or is just an excuse.

Wowhead kinda not offering their services in most countries.

VPN is only way to go.

At this point i refuse to use a VPN tbh, even one of dataminers of wowhead has to use a vpn to access his website. Blizzard should just stop promoting this site or take action against these bans

And which other site as option do we have now?

This. VPN is not only for protection. Its also the most important Anti-Censoringtool in the world.

Just wondering, what say do you expect blizzard to have on a third party website…?

If i block someones phone number is that also something bliz should take action against?

The thing is wowhead gives you the one thing no other place could, the collective knowledge of the community, catalogued by items/spells/whatever in their comment sections. Instead of trying to google phrases and dig up old forum/reddit/mmochampion posts that may or may not be relevant, everything in the game can be accessed quickly with community comments included.

They could promote alternatives like wowdb but those don’t contain even a fraction of the comments wowhead does.

So when Blizzard recommend you go look at an extensive wow database and you can’t because it’s not available in your country, well that’s a “tough luck” moment, guess you’ll have to pray to the google gods for help.

Then reply to Blizzard that you can’t do that. If they don’t respond make a complaint. Escalate it as far as you need to. You’re probably better posting it on Reddit, Blizzard don’t have as much reach there.

If blizzard promoting that specific phone number to players to get help, yes. They should.

Then that’s on you.
Alternatively you could use Tor Browser.

This is a result of using AdBlock which you, OP, are using too.
If nobody in your 50th world country was using AdBlock Wowhead would make significantly more money from you and then they would also be happy to buy servers in your country. However you guys are so incredibly smart because you are able to install a Chrome plugin, real hackers right there, so just accept it and move on with your life.

What are you talking about lol, you are delusional

I don’t think AdBlock has any bearing on Wowhead’s parent company blocking certain countries.

If you think all the countries that aren’t banned don’t use AdBlock, then you are mistaken.

I have zero desire to work for Blizzard

I’m an MVP not a blue

Hey. Its no secret that you hate Blizzard with your gutts, but really…attacking Puny as well?
How blind can your hatred make you?^^

Punyelf, is it possible that perhaps there are significantly more users in other countries so Wowhead makes enough money from non Adblock users to pay for servers? Hm… definitely not common sense at all.

Punyelf I give up, you win. Well done on getting your forum mob to spam report my post. People have been calling you out so often for using your little forum army to ban and remove posts on here and you keep doing it. Either way enjoy spamming the forum. You have been here since the old forums and you will be here until they shut down the servers. Time well spent.

Eh Athena I would be careful if I were you this could be seen as “flaming” and may result in a nice forum vacation a.k.a a silence.
