WoWup not not working :(

This.
We need an official addon manager from Blizzard, maybe incorporated in Bnet launcher.

Never heard of WoWup. So, what are they cooking?

Nothing has EVER had to run in the background 24/7 for Curseforge.

Although people can fail with settings ofc, I think just about everything I install on my PC wants to minimise itself instead of closing.

Addons are third party, and addon managers like Curseforge give addon devs some income for their troubles from advertising revenue generated on the app itself.

I’m not sure if it’s something Blizzard are particularly wanting to get involved in or having to manage a database for.

It’s just an an addon manager, for those that don’t like the Curseforge one. There were several to start with when Overwolf bought Curseforge from Twitch.

Addons third party u say but they balance the game around them, means they shoud have their own thing.

Many would love to see them as part of the launcher, in a separate tab. Whether or not that will ever happen, remains to be seen.

I suspect Blizzard wont get involved.

It’s the best addon manager without bloatware, adware or cryptofarm crap inside of it.

Yeah that kind of overblown hysteria is why people wont use it.

Whilst there are genuine issues with overwolf and they have a terrible reputation. It does not help when people go to extremes with claims.

The new standalone client is as lightweight as wowup for me.

Overwolf was not something I really wanted to have to run in the background but I went through all the options to ensure my privacy was respected it and it would close when curseforge did. So this change to a standalone version is very welcome.

I have no need for Overwolf. I don’t want to use it.

However, it does not matter, use whatever addon manager you are comfortable with.

Look up what they did in the past…

Wowup still works well, just had to add some sources and we’re good to go!

I still use curseforge i don’t care about drama, it works for me i just updated my addons

had to download minion to even DL the dbm addons
wowup since the update had some errors on my addons
either a dependancy is missing or its not working with the provider i DL from
when said provider is wowinterface
before that it was working normally

They won’t because it puts them in the firing line if anything happens with an addon that causes damage, corruption or even viruses to occur on the machine on the person using said addons.

Well, there’s Vortex but don’t think any WoW addon makers have put their stuff on Nexusmods at all and there’s only one page of mods on that site.

But then again the mods on there are questionable at best as they don’t change the actual files in the game directory but they do change stuff to load instead like different music, making graphics better.

Only checked now to be curious if vortex actually supported WoW and it does but there is hardly any addon support at all. Which is a shame as you could make profiles to load up specific addons for each character without messing about with the list in the game. Also knows where to put stuff in if just dragging zip files to install said addons.

Not much other choice for WoW really, So curseforge has the monopoly unless addon authors put their works elsewhere.

Nexusmod is more focused on the type of mods from single-player games like Skyrim in which there is absolutely no limit on what you can change. Even changing the game executable in some games is not out of limits. Except for some restrictions about NSFW mods (and even some of them are allowed) if someone is able to make the mod it can be uploaded to nexus.

In comparison, anything that can be done with addons would be comparable with just one modding category: UI modifications, very limited in terms of modding.

Those total modifications are okay on single-player games but for WOW users who need a site with mods/addons that are restricted to the modding that Blizzard allows instead of what is possible to do.

Nexusmods got my data leaked a few years ago. Not exactly a good site for people that worry about their data. my email was all over the internet with unhashed password for nexus mods, cause of their data leak.

Oh that sucks

WoWUp works perfectly fine for me. Sure there was a bit of a glitch when Curse pulled the plug on their access to their addons - but that had been expected for a long time … and multiple times actually, as Curse would give a date when they were switching to the new API and then failed to do so.

Obviously it does mean that none of my addons get updated from Curse via the addon manager, but I have loads of addons, only 7 of which I could not get from anywhere else, two of which have already said they’re planning on hosting elsewhere (Details! being one of them), 2 I can live without, and the others I’ll keep using until they break and then either look for alternatives, decide if I can live without, or just update manually.

WoWUp allows you to not only search for and keep updated addons from Wago, Tukui and wowuphub, but also import directly from URL from wowinterface and github - which it will also then keep updated.

Essentially, it’s actually better than the Curse addon manager because you can keep addons up to date from multiple sources, the only down side being that you’re unable to keep Curse addons up to date.

It’s worth noting that WoWup can only find addons from a couple of sites … Wowinterface, for example, doesn’t have the correct set-up, apparently, for them to be able to search for addons via the manager. Any addons that wowup can’t find on those sites (Wago, their own hub and Tukui I think), you can still add from other locations, such as github and wowinterface and, once they’re installed from those locations, it can then keep them updated.
