So putting all the hate for Overwolf to one side,
It looks like they have now locked down curseforge to opensource addon managers and things are stopping working.
I truly loved WowUp, simple fast just works.
I see a lot of addons and addon developers like myself, that wish to not use curse forge because we do it for the love of it not for money, and don’t want others profiteering from our work like advertising on a platform.
So we use github and other repositories,
addons like Tictap or Venture plan have been abandoned on curse but continue on github
Wowup manages them all no matter where they are, but Overwolf doesn’t so its now a mess to keep all updated.
there are many addons, most infact that are only on curse forge.
Punyelf
No the API has been depreciated and from today onward the new API v2 for curseforge doesn’t even publish all the addons which makes all alternatives dysfunctional and will degrade over time as more and more are stopped.
It is up to the addon creators to put their works on multiple sites.
I am not sure why more creators do not instead just have their addons widely and freely available and just have the option for tips/donations open on some patreon etc.
And even if I did, I wouldn’t use it. Overwolf is spyware and breaches the WoW ToS by injecting functions into the client, innocent though they may be.
yeah one can block almost all the ads in curseforge.
I will still only use it for inaccessible addons because it is unforgivably slow at finding which addons need an update. It takes so much time that I cannot help but feel it does more than it should
Its the fact you cannot have only the wow addon manager. You HAVE to install their bloatware/overzealous data mining overwolf app too. Give me the addon manager as a standalone programme without all the bs of the overwolf client.
Is this for real? If it is i’m glad i’m soon quitting as then i won’t be have to deal with it just grap some popcorn and watch as they lose more and more fans
Wowup is still giving me the option to update some curse addons but I know others are out of date as there’s one that has a popup telling me to update it on curse every time I open the game as it’s out of date yet Wowup isn’t giving me the option.
I don’t mind ads. If ads help keeping a free service running, then I’ll gladly have ads. The old Curse client also had ads, and I never had an issue with those. The Twitch app that followed was bloated and clunky, but it still worked. But when they forced Overwolf onto me, that was the last straw.
As to the topic: I am running the latest WoWUp version, and it still updates my addons. Now I am a bit worried that it might stop soonish
Sorry to reply to my own comment, but I just went to Wowup and the rogue addon that’s been telling me to update ingame has, after a week or so of popups, offered me an update on WowUp.
I now don’t know who I am or what I’m doing …
