They’ll turn practically worthless anyway once Wrath starts and a lot of players are sitting on some sizable hordes with little to nothing to spend them on. It wasn’t until Cataclysm release that they got turned into gold so even that would be a long ways away for anyone hoping to score some gold from them (plus Cataclysm Classic isn’t even confirmed).
So why not let us just go wild on some easier gearing up on alts or re-rolled mains? There is no progression to mess with and I don’t think it’s any worse than the tier token for old arena gear. It’s still somewhat limited in terms of available slots and more veteran characters taking part in raids to fuel their re-rolls/alts just makes for smoother and more fun raids for all involved. Nobody wants to join a raid and find that half the group is freshly dinged green re-rolls hoping to fly under the radar to score some gear.
Wrath is bringing us heirlooms which are account bound so it really isn’t adding anything in that department that isn’t in the expansion it is heralding
There’s a total differnce from physical things you can send to an alt - even if that alt is on another realm and to that alt having all my main’s achievemnts, pets, mounts and so on.
I defeated the boss and earned the achievement. I am the one worthy of a title. I earned all the pets and mounts by hard work. So why should I be limited to be able to use them only on one of MY many characters?
I’m with the Tauren on this one. Also, making anything account wide begs for a question: where to draw a line? Account wide pets? Titles? Achievements? How about professions? I leveled it to max on one char, surely the other should be able to use it to. What about level? I did my share of quests, why shouldn’t I be able to just create a level 70 char?
Personally, I draw the line at the beginning. No need for any account wide things. Play Your main, immerse yourself in the story. And if you want ALTs, let them have their own journey.
Also, apparently Blizzard stated that “The World is the Main Character” is one of the pillars of Classic.
Instant lvl 70 creation is quite the jump from a suggestion to make an item that is loosing 99,9%+ of its value with the expansion release. Things like titles, mounts and pets will retain their value. Nobody will go out of their way to gather Badges or Justice once Lich King is out but things like the Netherdrakes will still be just as enticing to farm out.
Badge gear was always meant as catch-up gear and with the pre-patch comes the last time for it to be that. Once those few weeks of pre-patch are over so is the incentive to gather them.
Anyone wishing to take advantage or the “Joyous Journey” buff will have a much more limited time to gather them than they were designed for. Being able to mail some over would kill a lot of the stress the rush to get every heroic done every day, every raid every week etc. for a lot of pre patch players. Do you have to do them all that much? No of course not but it is what you have to do to “catch up”. Add to that the extra annoyance of fights that require special sets (resistance fights, warlock or mage tanks etc) and in a world flooded with new characters there will be less of those out there, unless you can switch in your old character to do it but why would you if you get nothing for it? Being able send over the badges still means missing out on potential drops but at least you got a couple of badges and the run didn’t have to end early.
I’m not going to complain about Badges being account wide to help gear some alts pre-WOTLK, that gear is useless within a couple levels anyway. WOTLK questing gear is going to replace all but a few nice pieces mostly found in Sunwell, which is still replaced by dungeon blues.
Yes it is! That’s the point of what I said. Once You start thinking about account wide things You gotta ask Yourself a question - whare to draw a line. And the answer depends purely on preference. I draw it ant the beginning. You, as Your post implies, would draw it somewhere between account wide badges and account wide level. We differ here, but as I said - it’s about preference. I believe no argument will convince You that I am right and vice versa. Also, bear in mind that I was replying to Bafago’s question, not Your opening post.
I am no game dev, but I believe You are wrong here. Badge gear is supposed to be a chatch up mechanic for those that join the current expansion and want to catch up with people clearing current content - not for people who want to play the next one (ie. people who would be takiking advantage of joyous journey buff, as it was clearly stated that the buff is implemented as a means to level characters for WotLK). The catch up gear for those people would come form quests in Northrend, and You can go to Northrend with quest greens/dungeon blues at level 68 - You don’t even need level 70, let alone epics.
I don’t believe bagde gear was ever meant to allow players that join the expansion and start leveling 1,5-2 months before it’s end (joyous journey is supposed to last 6-8 weeks) chatch up with those that clear the last raid tier.
Yeah I think the two of us will disagree on that point, I think badges fall on the side of less egregious than account wide gear (heirlooms) and you don’t.
I also don’t get the obsession with fearing what has already been confirmed to be in the game. We will have instant level 70s so it doesn’t matter that both you and I think those are a bad idea. The wrath pass has already been announced to include that so its a battle lost on both ends here.
