WW Monk in pve

Hey!

Im planning to level a monk because I don’t have one at max level and they look interesting for me.

But I wonder if they are good.

How are they in m+ under and abova +10

How are they in pvp mostly arena

WW is very bad in raids, this might change slightly in 8.3 as there are some ST buffs coming up but it won’t really be much. WW will still lag behind DHs, rogues, warriors, even retri paladins. WW is kind of like feral.

In M+ however it’s a bit of a different story. With x3 Dance of Chi-ji traits, x2 fists of fury and x1 xuen traits you can pull off incredible dps on the trash packs and mediocre on bosses. But you need to play properly, it’s not like a DH - press eye beam, press focusing iris and deaths dance = profit. It’s more of holding ur 5 target hits for spinning crane kick to be empowered, having your Hit combo buff up all the time at max stacks, etc.

Overall in raids u will not have fun with a WW but you will for sure in M+, especially as keys go higher and on fortified weeks.

Monks offer a 5% physical damage bonus to everyone on anything they attack

This makes it good to have atleast 1 in each raid

For dungeons … i dont really see them that often

I main one at the moment, so as far as dungeons go you will have fun and not face much difficulty. But I have to say, they have underwhelming DPS. You will fall behind a lot, compared to most of other classes.

And this is a problem, if you don’t do them as part of the guild/group that accepts this drawback and leverages other things you bring to the table as WW monk.

And I have to say, that for the amount you put into having a fluid rotation and trying to keep tabs on everything (you are very squishy for starters), the reward for effort isn’t all that great.

While WW offers good DPS in M+ it is obvious that Rogue and DH are just over them but the chance to get a group slot is with WW higher than any other non DH/Rogue class just because what WW offers in terms of damage, utility and control. which is also a important part of an succesful M+.

I didn’t raid for a long time but from hearings WW is pretty bad in it and not worth the slot at all.

In PvP you are very viable not OP not weak but just viable.

While I don’t have too much experience over +10 beyond just doing weekly runs for the chest, I have to say that I really enjoy playing WW monks in M+ dungeons. The AoE DPS is really strong, and they bring a load of utility.

You get an AoE stun, a low CD interrupt, a hard CC, an AoE slow, the ability to dispel poisons and diseases and a persistent AoE knockback that can be used to buy your tank and healer some valuable breathing room when the necrotic gets out of hand. Your cleave can also be performed over a longer range in a pinch, although there’s a bit of a learning curve as to how to make the most out of that.

Plus, classes like Outlaw rogue and Protection warrior will love having the monk around because of how much of their damage output is physical. You might seem to be fairly low on the meters on bosses, especially on tyrannical weeks, but your 5% increased physical damage taken debuff means you actually contribute way more than the meters say, depending on the composition.

Mobility is also really good, almost on par with demon hunters, sometimes moreso. The only real weak point (other than single target DPS) is your survivability. Afterlife provides some base healing but is very unreliable, as mobs need to die from your killing blows in order to leave a sphere behind, and they can be picked up by any of your party members. You can spec into Eye of the Tiger for some extra passive healing but it’s not much. Your only big damage reduction cooldown is Touch of Karma. It can be made more powerful by a talent, but you’ll almost always want Ring of Peace from that line, and it also requires something to be alive and in range for it to work, meaning it’s useless after a big pull on a bursting week.
