i am considering coming back to retail with shadow lands and cant decide between ww monk, fury warrior and havoc demonhunter.
i really loved ww monk in MoP but it kinda went downhill from there. i always felt like dps wise ww monk is on the lower third of the dps specs.
and i feel like the same will happen in shadowlands. i dont need ww monk to be top dps by a mile but i want to be at least competetive. cause the rotation feels really nice in my opinion
what do you guys expect from monk in SL? you think the class will be competetive in dps?
As above. Numbers and tuning is something blizzard do right at the end. It’s impossible to say how they will compare in terms of numbers to other specs, they might be top, they might be bottom, no one knows, not even blizzard.
From a history perspective, monks have been suppar for the last 4 years, mainly because of how we dont really scale (half of our spells dont work with our mastery? lmao) and due to never fixed bugs with SeF
nothing big has happened to monk so far in the SL alpha, and so far we have what looks like the most non interactive covenant abilities of any class (our best one is a fire and forget mirror??)
so unless some huge number stuff happens on SL, or they fix our mastery out of the blue, its not really gonna change no, unfortunatly
I’ve mained a monk since MoP, and i would never recommend anyone to play this class, when its good, you need to abuse random bugs to do good dps (WDP bug fx.) and when its not, you’re putting in 2-3 times the effort just to keep up with a mediocre DH, that presses 2 buttons
Not true. WW at the moment only struggles on ST raid bosses. On multi-target bosses and in M+ we do quite well. Brew has always been an amazing tank. MW is also strong; it’s the top most picked healer in MDI, and nearly every Mythic raid team has one.
Like… what? First time hearing of this. Got any source to back this up with? I know we scale poorly, but to say “one of secondary stats don’t work” seems outright wrong.
I can’t even begin to address the fundamentally wrong issues with this statement.
WW should climb out of being the bottom DPS spec as it is in the current tier, because Touch of Death’s design is reverted to the original one. At the moment, because we can do that massive ST burst due to ToD’s damage window, all our other spells do less damage to compensate. Since ToD’s damage window is going away, we should see our core abilities hitting harder.
i think its more a case… thjat blizzard have Left Monks one of the worst options in the game for raiding outside 1 tier (Antorus where the set pieces were so Strong it made monks one of the best choices)
this will build a certain level of Cynical behaviour towards blizzard where People lose faith that blizzard will give them anything good.
but u are right… Monks are bad, their just not optimal for a ST Enviroment…there are plenty of areas in the game where monks can be very good…
we dont know if this will change. it Looks fun, but Monk has always been mechanically fun… its just the classes Poor performance which realistically turns people away.
tbh, Monks havent been Subpar for 4 years…
Tier 1 Legion they were one of the best DPSIn the game in a Mythic+ Enviroment.
They remained Very strong in M+ Enviroments throughout legion, and Antorus Monks were one of the best Options for Raiding aswell as M+.
BFA they’ve remained a good choice in M+, but Lost ALOT of power that blizzard never reverted going into BFA which has Left Monk Sub par in a raiding enviroment for BFA.
only in raiding enviroments… and more tro the point ST encounters.
Monks arent Bad, they’re just not optimal for ST Fights… which can affect their Position in a Raiding enviroment. What mainly keeps WW Monks on the bench is they have one of the strongest Tank Speccs currently.
Which means the Monk utility is already avaliable because ur carrying a Brewmaster Monk 99% of the time in optimal build ups…
Im hoping Monks remain Great AoE options… but maybe Hopefully some help in ST Enviroments…
I am on the fence with Monk personally, they have their pros and cons… but i think they are one of the most fun playstyles in WoW… and just watching videos on it such as Preachs… u really can see how much fun people do have with the class.
if ur going for “the most optimal” i’d take Warrior, More DPS Speccs then Monk… and Warriors generally always fair well in balancing.
i played Warrior on Vanilla and now in Classic and i really love Warrior, but what they have done to the specc (no stances etc) i am thinking more and more of maybe just playing it as an alt
To be honest, I think the number one reason for playing monk is loving the class fantasy. They can’t seem to make WW consistent, so I’ve just found my peace with being sometimes spiky, but usually just mid-range.
If you want competitive dps, I think you’re better off with havoc. It’s just not even half as cool as monk.
Truth! …but it’ll be twice as mobile.
Fel Rush - reduced to 7s
The Hunt - 50yd charge & root & teleport back to target every 30s (ignoring LOS)
Infact Warriors aren’t doing too bad either… 3 x Heroic Leap
2 x Charge
Intervene
Makes me a little salty that FSK & Port got nerfed & Karma got cut in 1/2, as mobility is our defensive. Kinda looking forward to seeing a mage with Spacial Rift & 2 x shimmer & Alter Time port & Door of Shadows & hopefully Ripple in Space.
I am not that excited, especially since the main selling point of WW for me is the ability to play brewmaster. Since some good players are moving away from brewmaster in the next expansion, WW might have a raiding spot for the 5% buff. Covenants and legendaries don’t look amazing.
Monk is very cool overall in all honesty. the only off put i ever have is it only having 1 DPS Option… but i suspose that can be as much of a pro as a con.
and that night fae ability looks like so much fun…
if blizzard Dont intentionally ensure that ability is meta… Its a Wasted Opportunity IMHO…
its prolly one of the coolest things Monks have gotten in the last 6 years in all honesty… and i hope blizzard Never remove it lol, i’d like to see Monks get that ability Baselined after SL. its such a good concept imho.
objectively its the most interesting ability, with huge interaction potiental… which is really cool and what Most convenant abilities fail to realistically provide.
i have been reading a lot about monks lately. damn they were gutted so hard. dont know if i am willing to play monk after i read what they had a few expansions ago.
seems like WW monks are not getting any changes cause blizzard said they are now in the tuning phase of beta. this is kinda sad cause i dont think they will give the monks an overhaul.
