[X-Faction/Timerunning RP] Mark of the Infinite - Legion Remix, but in RP!

TL;DR:

  • Cross-Faction Community (In-game Community and Discord) focussed on organizing Roleplay event series (Seasons) in alternate timelines, originally inspired by Mists of Pandaria Remix.
  • Characters operate as agents of Eternus’ Infinite Dragonflight and/or the Bronze Dragonflight to fix ‘timeline’ issues in other timelines which are in danger of becoming too ‘powerful’ compared to the ‘true timeline’. (e.g. use the Old Hillsbrad Instance as an example).
  • We use existing, altered and/or new RP lore characters in ways which are definitely lorebreaking, but since this is all ‘another timeline’, it has no direct effect on the true timeline and allows for truly unique situations.
  • 1 event per week, Saturday evening - 9 PM Central European Time to ~11 PM /Midnight.
  • Seasons take ~2 months, 5 core-events total.
  • All members are allowed to organize their own events in addition to core-events.
  • You can use alts and/or existing RP characters.
  • We are not here to replace your existing RP guild and/or RP ties.
  • Season 1 ran during Mists of Pandaria Remix.
  • Season 2 will start in the first or second week of October 2024 and will last ~2 months.
  • We are currently going through a poll in our Discord to determine the next Season’s timeline we’d like to select, ranging from alternative Second War ending, alternative Burning Crusade ending to an alternative version of the Legion expansion! See more information below. Join the Discord to vote!

Welcome back everyone to a new season of Mark of the Infinite, starting soon in early October!

Following our previous Season during Mists of Pandaria, we are currently in the planning series to our next season of time traveling Roleplay crazy situations and events.

Mark of the Infinite is a in-game WoW Roleplay Community (not a guild!) and Discord where players who have an interest in playing characters who ‘for some reason’ (options below) have gotten ‘stuck’ in one of the Infinite Dragonflight’s schemes and/or other Bronze Dragonflight time related maladies.

This can be by choice to for example aid Eternus’ Infinite Dragonflight or Nozdormu’s Bronze Dragonflight in exchange for unique items and riches. Another angle could be that your character ended up in an accident and just ‘happened’ to be somewhere a Bronze and/or Infinite Dragonflight member was messing with time. Finally, you could also perhaps be sent to another timeline to make things right as punishment for dragon-kin and mortal related transgressions against the Dragonflights, great for Dractyr or Dragon’s that have been naughty! In our ‘universe’, Nozdormu is a man of great spectacle who likes to watch other timelines for sport too…

But how do we actually keep things sane and normal in the ‘true timeline’? We use our Infinite Universe RP Framework!

‘Space and Time’ in any lore is a tricky subject and in order to keep things fair for all involved while remaining within lore constraints, there are some general framework items we would like to ask everyone to adhere to with their character. They are not firm ‘rules’ but should be generally considered as a manner of ‘good taste’ and ‘respect’ to your fellow player. These items are part of what we from this point forward call the ‘Infinite Universe RP Framework’ which is aptly named after any time phase or situation within RP created by the Infinite Dragonflight.

The below are generally guidelines and you don’t HAVE to stick to them. Deviating from them is allowed but please know it could have your character go on a slippery slope in terms of lore. Always make sure to stick to common sense!

How did my character get here?

There are three ways your character from an In-character perspective could have gotten involved in this.

  1. Your character can be involved as a volunteer, either by reaching out to an Infinite or Bronze Dragonkin in Valdrakken (because you are a thrillseeker) or them reaching out to you and offering you an interesting ‘deal’ of sorts. The deal would involve some minor alterations to your character’s storyline compared to before or simply riches (but nothing extremely major and in line with what the Infinite are saying in-game). Examples would be a reclaimed minor heirloom or some more ‘combat experience’.
  2. Your character can be involved after being bribed or ‘softly forced’ (or blackmailed) into the situation by a rogue Infinite or Bronze Dragonkin. This would be a ‘rogue’ element which takes the ‘freedom’ Eternus and his kin have in ‘experimenting’ with timelines a bit too far. They can’t be going any further than Eternus and his kin do, but they might have ‘ulterior’ motives in curiosity for your character. Another option here is that you were ‘punished’ for a transgression against the Dragonflights and part of doing this would be ‘community service’ to make things right again. Perfect for Dragons and Dracthyr who have been bad!
  3. A combination or something unique. However, keep in mind the lore very clearly states you CANNOT alter the actual ‘true timeline’ in massive manners.

A note on characters which weren’t ‘there’ in a time phase before (e.g. Nightborne and Vulpera in The Burning Crusade or The Second War).

  • This will be a bit tricky. Make sure to not do anything which would alter the timeline because otherwise the Bronze could be intervening. Some workarounds include saying as a Nightborne you’re a rogue group of Pink Elves(?) or as a Vulpera you’re a member of a ‘native tribe of grimalkin’. Yes, that might be very awkward.

What are some guidelines while RPing an infinite marked character?

  1. Your character will be forced to swear an oath of secrecy while they are within a time phase campaign. You -can not- speak to any random character about being marked. If you try, your character’s throat will feel like it’s clenched close by an invisible power and you feel your words are being lost to you.
  2. There is one exception to this: Fellow Timerunners! There will be a specific hand signal shared to share with Timerunners by the Infinite upon entering. This hand signal is using your indexfinger to draw a clock ‘anti-clockwise’ three times.
  3. So feel free to speak about anything with your fellow Timerunners about what is going on and your shared predicament and/or make friends, relations cough one-night-stands cough
  4. You will be told your memory will be ‘mostly’ wiped at the end. Yet a complete ‘memory wipe’ is not feasible. Your mind is not an SSD. Instead, it will feel like very intense dreams: You will forget ‘most’ of it but not ‘all of it’. Intense moments will remain like flashed images in your memory.
  5. Other than that, all events will happen in ‘time frame’ as they have. No major alterations. Your characters aren’t important enough to make major changes. You can make minor changes to your character’s storyline, but life or death decisions are sort of ‘forced’ on you one way or another.
  6. The only deviation to the above here is if you are taking part in a timeline which is already ‘broken’. For example: The Burning Crusade where Kael’thas survived or a Second War where the Alliance lost. These timelines and ‘assignments’ by the Bronze and Eternus’ Infinite Dragonflight are focussed on trying to get as close as possible to the ‘true timeline’ as possible to increase the strength of the true timeline. Taking the above examples: You’d work to actually eliminate Kael’thas or ensure you work to bring back the Alliance from the dead.

What’s the aftermath?

  1. At the end of all this, your character will essentially wake up and realize this was all a dream. A very long, LONG dream because this would take essentially 60 days on average. Your awakening would essentially happen ‘the next day’ after your character agreed to the bargain with the Infinite. You would have just had a rough night of sleep.
  2. As with any dream, you will be able to remember things rather vividly the moment you wake up but the memories will pass within hours of waking up! If you try to write anything down, you will feel as if you’re losing memories quicker compared to the speed you can write down. If you write down too much, you’ll find your notes face sudden calamities on their own! (E.g. the notes fly into a furnace or disappear through a window).
  3. VERY STRONG memories between those marked (e.g. friendships, good talks, coughs one night stands coughs) will remain ‘somewhat’ and you will remember the faces and strongest memories of being with these people involved but not their names. You will be able to investigate these people in archives later IF they were around in that time phase (e.g. military records). If you meet each other ‘IRL’ later, you will remember each other and you WILL remember the most strong memories. This may create very awkward situations and potentially time altering events! This is the Infinite’s secret malicious goal in the end. At least that of the rogue Infinite elements!

But I want to keep my memories!

As with everything here, these are guidelines and nothing is set in stone. You’re obviously free to deviate from them entirely. That’s the nature of this concept. That being said, do know that you may be going onto a slippery slope here as it’s the Bronze’s and Eternus’ Infinite Dragonflight’s duty to ensure the timeline isn’t broken. Having memories of a time altering event could endanger just that! Keep that in mind, if you somehow still have your memories after all of this, consider being very tight-lipped about your experiences as otherwise the Bronzes and/or Eternus’ Infinites might come after you!

Season 2 Scenarios currently under vote

We are currently going through a poll in our Discord to determine the scenario for Season 2 before we actually start preparing the events and stories taking place within that scenario. Three wildly different scenarios (in order of true timeline appearance) are currently on the table.

Campaign Scenario 1 - Reign of the Perenoldes

The Second War ended…differently. Instead of the Grand Alliance claiming total victory over the Horde who was routed to Blackrock Mountain, the Grand Alliance loses the war badly. Quel’thalas is mostly in ruins apart from a few survivors on Quel’danas and have secluded themselves from the world alongside most of the Magi around the Sunwell within an impenetrable magic shield. Lordaeron is razed utterly and Gilneas falls to a deadly famine. Khan Mhodan is sieged for years and eventually the Dwarves give up the fight either in one last battle or through famine, with the Gnomes becoming forced laborers of the Horde. With Stormwind already destroyed during the First War, the last bastion of Humanity is Alterac which serves as a puppet state of ‘The Grand Horde’ of which the ‘Alterac Dominion’ is a member state, it’s territories mostly consisting of Alterac itself and most parts of Northern Lordaeron with Alterac City as its capital and a rebellious Stratholme, forever on the verge of open rebellion against the Alteraci throne, as its main industrial port.

Thirty years have now passed since the end of the Second War and although Alterac continues to have a certain level of independence, internal strife and deceit has decimated the royal family and its government is incredibly unstable to the point the Horde isn’t even interested in them anymore. Ruled by a bastard daughter of Aeliden Perenolde who died himself after being stabbed by an ‘Alliance Rebel’, Queen Aelyda Perenolde now sits on the Alteraci throne wearing the Crown of Menethil as bounty. The Alterac Dominion now somehow stands as the last ‘hope of humanity’ to regain true freedom away from ‘The Grande Horde’, but is humanity hope even worth saving at this point?

Unburdened by the baggage of her forefathers and generally proving to be a slightly more popular yet ruthless leader, Aelyda now quietly seeks allies to loosen the Horde’s grip upon Northern Azeroth and allow the ‘Alteraci Alliance’ to rise up once more. Yet she wishes to do so making sure it has only her and herself only as its supreme leader…. Will you be able to allow the Alliance to rise up once more, restoring balance in the timeline on Azeroth for years to come? But should that be done with a Perenolde as its leader…?

Themes: Low-Fantasy, Stealth, Deceit, Backstabbing, Alliance Centric, Low-Magic.
Location: Northern Eastern Kingdoms

Campaign Scenario 2 - Kael’thas’ Broken World

Quel’danas was merely a setback! The Shattered Sun Offensive upon the Sunwell did proof to be successful, but the Blood Elf Prince had one final trick upon his sleeve. Instead of remaining on Magister’s Terrace until ‘the end’, he joined the defense of the Sunwell itself. As Kael’thas felt there could be no Quel’thalas without him, instead of fighting to the end, the Prince decided to corrupt the magical foundation of the Sunwell which caused the entire island to explode with most of the Shattered Sun Offensive troops on it.

What followed is a disastrous outcome of events. The Sin’dorei are corrupted en-masse with fel energy to a whole other level and only the Farstriders manage to avoid corruption. Yet they can not avoid the fall of the ancient Elven home and the entirety of Quel’thalas is turned into a fel wasteland following Quel’danas’ and the Sunewell’s destruction. Kael’thas flees once more back to Outland after he ensured ‘his Kingdom’ was no more.

Twenty years later, although Azeroth enjoys a ‘relative’ peace, Kael’thas’ is preparing for his next move. Having built a new existence for ‘his people’ in Outland named the Kingdom of Sin’thalas, the now ‘King Kael’thas’ has worked quietly to raise a new generation of young Sin’dorei Warriors who are ready to take revenge upon those that sought to conquer them and never even saw their own original homeland.

Being a master of manipulation and public narrative, Kael’thas has worked tirelessly to create an image he is the ‘savior’ of the Sin’dorei people and that they will claim the whole of Azeroth as their rightful home. Bloodlines and noble house purity rules are enacted and enforced to ensure as many ‘well-behaved’ and ‘loyal’ new Elven children are born to increase the size of the new Thalassian Legion as quickly as possible.

Still aided by Kil’jaeden and Illidan Stormrage, this time, Kael’thas will not be accepting any setbacks… Are you prepared to defeat Kael’thas before he and his allies can invade Azeroth a second time and restore the ‘true’ timeline of events after?

Themes: High-Fantasy, Fel Corruption, Broken Foreign World, Survival, Power Insanity, Mid-Magic, Horde Centric.
Location: Outland

Campaign Scenario 3 - Azeroth’s Last Chance

When Archimonde sent Guldan from the alternate timeline to open the Vault of the Ancients, he might not have been as well-prepared as he could have been to fight both Khadgar and Maiev at the same time. However, this time, he was prepared…

Khadgar and Maiev are trapped by Guldan in the Vault of the Ancients and suffer a slow and agonizing death being crushed to death in one of the vault’s alcoves. This allows Guldan to fully realize his original ambition to fully overwhelm the Alliance and the Horde in one massive coordinated attack.

His plan proves to be successful and within weeks, all major cities of both factions are razed to the ground, killing 80% of Azeroth’s population and enslaving almost all others, turning the world’s sky into a fell green hellscape. In time, the Legion will be harvesting Azeroth’s energy for future conquests…

Yet even though almost everything is already lost, there is one last chance for the people of Azeroth to band together and end this until it’s too late and all resistance is crushed. As a small group consisting of a few of the last ‘free adventurers’, they must travel to the Broken Isles and seek a way to destroy the capability of Guldan to bring more legion troops into the world. Yet can such a small group stand up against the power of the Legion…?

Themes: Mid-Fantasy, End of the World, Survival, Poor Odds, Legacy, High-Magic, Neutral/Factionless.
Location: Broken Isles.

Can’t wait!

Status update time!

Following a poll in our Discord, we’ve chosen Campaign Scenario 3 to be our next Season of events. This means we’ll be going back to the Broken Isles, just in a slightly different timeframe obviously gasp end of the world gasp.

With that said, we’re prepping up to start our new event series in the next two weeks so now is the perfect time to join us!

And with that, here’s a little story update as a primer.

The Beginning

“My Lord, we have a problem.”

A low rumble emerged from Nozdormu as he was interrupted while drinking a considerable mug of wine while overlooking the festivities near the Caverns of Time in Tanaris. His gazed turned towards the Bronze servant while he rested upon a splendorous golden-brown chair. A deep sigh emerged from his throat as he leaned forward, turning his attention back to the combat arena in front of him while he grumbled.

“I miss the Celestial Court on the Timeless Isle already. Better temperatures, nicer scenery. Who made us sit out here in the desert again for these celebrations?”

The servant seemed a little bit flabbergasted by the laid-back response of Nozdormu, the Bronze dragon servant in visage form looking taken aback while clearing her throat, answering as requested.

“T’was Chronormu, my lord. Because the Champions of Azeroth typically associate our appearance with the Caverns of Time rather than the Timeless Isle.”

Nozdormu nodded briefly. “Of course.” He rumbled once more as he folded his hands together under his chin. “Chonormu always tends to present their ideas to the mortal races as original while the Celestial Court was around for eons before. Typical copying behaviour…”

Yet the attention of the Bronze Lord was drawn to the arena once more as he watched a peculiar Orc defeat a horde of Quillboars.

“Well done Mankrik!” Nozdormu shouted with a raised fist in the Orc’s direction. “Maybe we should send you to correct a timeline where the Quillboars have an empire soon to clean house!”

While Nozdormu was clearly enjoying himself being a man of great spectacle after all, the servant released a deeper sigh as she waited and waited for her liege to give her the attention she sought. The woman waited patiently while Nozdormu took another swig from his mug of wine before finally turning towards the servant.

“So, tell me of our problems.” Nozdormu snorted a little as he continued. “Did the King of Stormwind have an ‘oops’ moment on the festival grounds with his servant Valeera due to her natural lack of clothes? Or are we talking ‘bigger’ problems?”

“Bigger problems, my liege.” The servant clearly needed a moment to recover from Nozdormu’s suggestion and cleared her throat once more. “Much bigger. Do you recall the events at the Vault of the Ancients, my lord?”

“Yes, Khadgar and Maiev held off Guldan who was send by Archimonde.” Nozdormu turned his attention fully to the servant. “So what’s the problem?”

“Well…we have a timeline now where they were both trapped by Guldan and most of Azeroth is wiped out. The probability of this particular timeline is becoming….stronger, causing the true timeline to having issues continuing to manifest. Should we not take any action soon, in a few months well…”

The servant sighed deeply as Nozdormu nodded slowly, pondering over the severity of the situation.
“Don’t tell anyone.” He rumbled, glancing over the festivities. “It would ruin the peace and quiet this festival needs for some relations to be…ehm…developed….here. For prosperity of course, for a certain human king.”

Offering a ‘You know what’ wink to his servant, Nozdormu turned back towards the arena, leaning back in his seat.
“This might be a good task for some of the Timerunners on Pandaria who also served the Infinite. Seek them out, but keep this under wraps. And perhaps involve that wayward sister who had lost her way in Pandaria, what was her name again…Lacri…something? With her powers stripped, this could be a good humble pie for her to redeem herself….”

The Summons

You awaken as a large breeze hits you in the face in the early morning of wherever you are currently located.

The breeze seemed particularly unnatural for those who were at that moment in a house or establishment where such a forceful gush of wind was highly improbably. As you turn over to try and get back to sleep, you feel a parchment of paper has been placed upon your bedsheets. The parchment is thick and of a high quality and as you take a few moments to wipe the sleep from your eyes, it soon becomes clear the text is written in a flowery design and obviously a considerable effort was put into it.

“Dear friend,

Some time has passed since we last met. I am sure you have lots of different feelings gushing throughout you as you’ve most undoubtedly seen the drawing at the bottom of this letter alongside my name. Yet I wish to humbly request your aid in a situation that is most dire and your experience is of invaluable assistance.

As you may have heard there’s currently a celebration going on near the Caverns of Time. Many walks of life throughout Azeroth have been invited to take part. This is supposed to be a time of great celebration and peace, yet unfortunately we have something which may erase all of that.

A deviation of the timeline has occurred in the timeline around the time of the most recent Legion invasion which started on the Broken Isles. Thankfully, in our timeline we have been able to destroy the Legion portal Guldan created but in this timeline Azeroth was not so fortunate. Almost the entire world has been overrun with Legion demons and both the Horde and Alliance lie in ruins.

I need not remind you of the importance of avoiding timeline deviations as much as possible as it causes the fabric of reality of the true timeline to eventually wither. Should we not do anything, in a few months from now our own timeline will start to fall apart.

Lord Nozdormu has tasked me with finding additional adventurers to once again become a Timerunner of the Infinite once more and travel to the Broken Isles in this timeline of great calamity. It is a task most difficult and partially given to me as penance for my crimes in Pandaria.

My friend, I am certain you have many questions and may not be willing to trust me any longer after the heinous acts I performed to hoodwink you. I can however assure you that my mind is now my own again once my Lord Nozdmormu and Lady Eternus showed me that the path I was embarking on was a dark one and that I had to make peace with the loss of my beloved. Therefore I am absolutely determined to see this task through to the end.

Should you wish to indeed aid me, please find me in the town of Ratchet at the time and date indicated on the other side of this letter, hidden by an ink only Timerunners can discern. You will be well rewarded, I will make sure of that.

Warm regards,

Lacrimori

A picture of Lacrimori smiling at you is included underneath the parchment’s text. She is looking quite a bit more healthy and seems to have recovered from her somewhat pale look, turning into more of a Bronze Dragon once more. Yet her eyes were still a bright blue, indicating her allegiance to the Infinite Dragonflight.
