XP Buff proves…

Well… I do think this is a bit of an exaggeration these days. I’m just bored of it because every time I gain more power I fall behind. I run into a dungeon at level 55 and just get destroyed by a level 12 mage spamming fireball. Not that fun honestly.

Exactly how I feel. What I would propose, and how they could fix this:

For the sake of keeping it clean, I will modify the numbers / levels to not make the solution complicated. Let’s say, that the new level cap will be 80 in the upcoming expansion, and let’s say that 70-80 will require 1.000.000 XP. TDLR - I would propose a sytem, that for every character you level, the XP required for 70-80 gets reduced by a half. The pre-requisite for this, is to complete the story / campaign on atleast ONE character (your main).

So, if we go into numbers:

  • 70-80 on your main, you do the story, you obtain 1.000.000 XP.
  • 70-80 on your 1st alt, you level however you want, you need 500.000 XP.
  • 70-80 on your 2nd alt, you level however you want, you need 250.000 XP.
  • 70-80 on your 3rd alt, you level however yo uwant, you need 125.000 XP.
  • etc etc.

I personally have 13 max level chars currently, and levelling them from 60-70 was nothing but a collosal waste of time for me. I understand people levelling from the first time, and I understand that some people generally like it and that’s ok, but in reality, levelling has zero value due to how the game currently works.

You mean, like it has been for at least 10 years?

First 10 levels should be skipabble once you have at least 1 max lvl character on a realm. It’s just so boring (NEW SACRIFICES GO TO COOKING PIT) that it’s beyond compare. Heroic class starter zone should also be skipable for the same reason and with the same requirement.
The greatest change they could/should make to leveling is to remove upgrades from heirlooms, make them autoscale max lvl -10 (where you start getting actual content gear after you get ripped out from chromie time), and make them give XP bonus again.

Reading this thread I realize I’m a minority in liking leveling, but I do have to say I certainly have my fav zones and expansions.

For ex. I know it will be a long time before I touch wrath zones again since I played wrath classic a lot. I’ll also never level in SL ever again, and to be fair I kinda dislike DF aswell. I have zero feeling with the zones - even though they are beautiful - and the lore doesn’t really vibe with me, same story with the DF dungeons minus Uldaman.

I really wish they would let us do Chromie Time until 70 so I can relax leveling in Outland, Pandaria, Azeroth or Legion.

leveling is a part of a RPG game.

i like to transmogrify my alts in a way that reflects their journey to power, from simple clothes to super shiny armors in the end.

on the other hands, if somebody doesn’t like leveling, alts are not probably your thing.

this is somethign what most people on forums ignroe.

because they dont want to play mmorpg only seasonal instance symulator.

they are just dishonest about it.

That’s simply not true though.

Plenty of people who don’t like levelling have alts they play in end game. But the levelling is not a fun experience for them. It’s easier if they’ve kept them up every expansion so it’s only ten levels each time but sometime they have to start a new one from scratch. That’s when dungeon spamming comes in usually.

They aren’t likely to have a huge number of characters on their account beyond one of each class though I agree. Or just the classes they find fun to play.

The forum is only a small cross section of players from the game so it’s always hard to judge. I do generally get the impression repeated levelling enjoyers are the minority, however, that’s not to say there are none of you. WoW has a large player base. Look at RP, another minority interest and yet it has a very successful community.

I’m not sure what the limitations are but it would be nice if once someone had levelled through the intended way that their alts got the choice. Being unceremoniously ejected from Chromie time often gets comments.

you cannot have multiple alts without putting multiple efforts in it, this is not final fantasy online and never has been, so the mechanics behind alts should be out and clear by now.

also, the concept of fun is personal. i consider fun leveling an alt in areas that makes sense to my character, my paladin is going through northrend on his quest to become an argent dawn crusader for example. i created a coherency for my character and i consider fun sticking to it.

on the other hand, if people don’t read quests, don’t care about lore and simply wish to rush to max level… perhaps they cannot graps the concept of mmoRPG and would be way happier on games who don’t have an old fashioned leveling system.

I can relate to this.My monk went through Pandaria and it felt so natural and fun.

I’m leveling some alts for the heritage armour, even though I’ll never use that armour. I like doing achievements.

I’ll end up using those alts to run old dungeons and raids for more transmogs and mounts (that I’ll also never use).

hte pointlessness of this is not lost on me but that’s how I roll…

It’s just the forced linear questing of dragonflight that is tedious imo, just blasting through 1-60 is pretty zen

Maybe they should go back to no scaling, old leveling style and let you do all the leveling in the xpack you want.
Once you done the current xpack campaign once on your main you can do alts fully wherever,so you can have a fresh experience everytime.
Not repeating the last 10 levels over and over may make people happier and not be so much against leveling…So those of us that like leveling won’t get as much hate.
I dunno just an idea…I am rambling.

Yes but using an underlying tone to insinuate I’m stating something dumb other than to be obtrusive doesn’t add anything now does it?

I never said you couldn’t find levelling fun. Ofc fun is subjective. I hate levelling. My account is still at 60 chars though. But equally you can’t expect everyone to find it fun. Just like others are bored in end game atm, because they are not having fun. With the change in WQ rotation they are feeling their world doesn’t offer enough to do. They need to find a way to bridge that gap. Meanwhile I’m having the time of my life.

Plenty of players love end game but hate levelling. It’s a chore they want to get over as quickly as possible, which is why many end up dungeon spamming to get to max. I’m currently spamming my latest char from 60-70 through dungeons.

There is nothing wrong with people not caring about the things you care about. The game is more than just levelling. For me the real game is end game. For others levelling is the main game. There is no right or wrong.

Inclined to agree, at least 1-60 you can just blast on any route or style you want

I did those the first time we had Korrak’s AV, when the XP was really good.

It’s only your first char that has to do all the storylines in DF. Any alts can do what they like. It’s a sort of combination of Threads of Fate from SL and the Questline mode.

Atypical of this forum for someone to have a dig at people who don’t agree with you.

End of the day vast swathes of this game are outdated and up to date content requires you to play through the old and defunct content of which many many of us have seen this countless times before.

I don’t think you could find a majority to agree that levelling is good and required as part of the game, you can’t even learn your class until max level due to the talent system - not that I’m against that system the reintroduction of this system was a great move.

But until levelling is revamped it remains a chore which can be alleviated by blizz, option could be to remove the buff (or add it depending on how it was implemented - which it won’t be) for those players who wish to have a traditional mmorpg journey, despite the fact the rest of the mmorpg world would not be there - as it currently isn’t - such as groups and other players… but hey each to their own
